Escape Pod Modification

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

About the restriction on the numbers of crew aboard...I thought it had been discussed before that the crew slots were representative of the crew space, and not the actual physical space...which is why I suggested the idea that only the number of slots could be active at any time, and that there should be a penalty for switching around the active ones...

...and I thought the YT1300, YT2400 and Ghost were all supposed to be equipped with pods, just not necessarily the same model as those on the CR-90 ?

EDIT: too slow  'd again :D

So is there some consensus on how this will work; Can someone do a summary.

I've been holding of on doing an Upgrade/Pilot card and Reference cards.

Large Ship Only.

Doesn't Rebel Aces have an escape pod token?

When the ship carrying the escape pod is destroyed, you may deploy the escape pod.

To do this place the 1 straight template into the rear guides of the ship, and place the escape pod at the other end of the template.

You may place one crew from the destroyed ship in the escape pod. (crew that require two slots may not use the escape pod.) Note that the destroyed ship is still worth full points to the enemy even if some of the crew escape.

The escape pod moves at pilot skill zero, and must be assigned a 1 straight maneuver at the start of each activation phase.

It may also be targeted by the enemy; it has 1 hull and 2 agility.

If at any time the escape pod overlaps or touches another ship or obstacle it is immediately destroyed and removed from play.

A friendly large ship at range 1 with an empty crew slot may spend an action and receive 1 stress to rescue the escape pod. To do this, remove the escape pod and place the crew card on the rescuing ship.

That's how I'd run the pod.

But looking at all the clauses and conditions I had to put in there, this might be something better suited to casual or scenario play than competitive.

I like the idea that only a large ship with crew slots can pick it up. That adds some thematic and gameplay reasonableness to it.

I do not like the idea that ship has to have free slots to pick it up. This I feel makes it a little too restrictive to the point that it wouldn't ever be used.

I think it would be better to be able to use either the 1 straight or 1 bank templates for deployment - otherwise, if the destroyed ship happens to be pointing directly away from an asteroid, the pod's maybe going to be destroyed before it can be reached...allowing the choice of templates at least gives a little leeway

...also not sure about the stress for pickup...I'd have thought loss of action was penalty enough ?

This REALLY needs to be added to Epic.

I would like my CR-90's big escape pod's with the laser cannons to pop out and shoot like the Wookieepedia says, dammit.

Overall, I hope FFG is working on docking and boarding rules too, so escape pods can really be a new mechanic that allows transfer of crew upgrades and even commandeering. Maybe we need to wait for the 'advanced x-wing ruels' that some competitive players are hoping for.

Weirdly, I'm pretty sure that the only non-Epic x-wing ship that has an escape pod is the k-wing... The whole cockpit section pops off from the wings and flies away on its own.

Some of the snubfighters also have ejection capability, but not really in a way that allows the pilots to contribute.

I don't think the large based ships tend to.

Oh no sir you are wrong there Millennium Falcon and Outrider both have escape pods for sure

The Imperial Shuttle's "head" is also an escape craft. They use it in Aftermath if im not mistaken.

This obviously needs a reference card to go with it ( just like Nashta Pup )

to explain that the crew upgrade points are what are really being saved.

How about instead of putting nine people on a ship as your shuttles explode instead the escape pod causes you to instead not lose the points from the crew? It's not as flashy but it's still useful.

If you want to take the time to make the Reference Card, be my guest.

Some great ideas here. Hope FFG gives some thought to this. Someone run it by PHeaver, if he wins again this year, maybe he can submit it ;)

A very good idea. Now, all we need to do is find someone who knows Paul Heaver.

I don't bother Paul with my ideas anymore, he's too competitive to consider anything not official only for fun

and has probably signed a non-disclosure agreement, if I understood what he was telling me correctly,

and so he can't discuss ideas with people.

He (PHeaver) discusses stuff all the time on Nova Squadron podcast. He was also a guest for an hour on Stay on Target podcast last epidsode.

Certainly someone could suggest it to him. He's on these boards, he scours Reddit. He's on vassal.

For that matter FFG reads these boards also - although they'd probably deliberately NOT use anything suggested here, as they'd have to credit it. Ah well.

I was obviously speaking of new ideas, I'm sure he has no problem discussing what's already out there.

Also as for FFG needing to give any credit, that's not true, it's their game so they can always just say it was a coincidence. By the way, there are probably hundreds of ideas on this forum , yet I'm sure he has plenty of ideas of his own to suggest to FFG.

You could just ask me. :)

Gotcha.

Note that he said on Stay on Target that he was actually out of good ideas for cards (although that may have been tongue in cheek).

He also said last Nova cast that it would be someone else's turn to win X-Wing this year. Sounded a little like he feels his run is over. He's also playing IA at Worlds, and sounded like if he goes top 16 in both X-Wing and IA he'd chose IA for the chance at World Chamlion this year.

Anderson v. Stallone , 1989 WL 206431 (C.D. Cal. Apr. 25, 1989)

I'm sure there are a million reasons why they don't use stuff from the forums, but having to credit board users is definitely not one of them.
