Prey On The Weak

By aermet69, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Has aynone tried this (competitively). First I thought this would be great on the bigger guys as they'd have a lot more targets due to their high cost. Then last night I thought about sticking it on Greedo. His figure cost of 4 mean it works against most troopers/fillers and allows him to snipe these despite his downside.

You then get +2 Accuracy, +1 Damage and Pierce 1 at the base. With GG it doesn't seem that hard to pick out an eTrooper of some kind, far enough away that they have a hard time hitting you back.

The least amount of damage you could do is then 5 damage, Pierce 1 at range 4. Seems like it could have some merit.

Otherwise it seems like a strong card for maybe Bossk who could use a bit more range sometimes or even make Dengar viable?

I think it is meant for Greedo to use effectively; I mean it comes in his figure pack, after all.

Greedo's an okay card to attach it too since it will help him pick off eStorms at longer ranges.

I've also thought about putting it on Bossk since he could use the extra range, though it might be overkill for his already strong attack.

Since it's an attachment that affects every attack you make (with target that has a lower point cost) you ideally want to have it on something that can attack multiple times (with a medium to high point cost too). So Trandoshan Hunters would theoretically be a good attachment target but they already want to be close for their other bonuses.

Perhaps Jabba's Realm will give us some new Hunters that can make use of Prey on the Weak. ;)

Thoughts on Greedo are valid. I don't have a problem with any of that.

I don't admonish the use of upgrade cards as a fix for overpriced characters from the beginning though, Dengar dies really quickly. Making him a point more expensive and giving him one more range, won't keep him alive longer, and really he's more of a hero catcher (he wants to put conditions on, not do damage almost) I think he would be better with Prey on the Weak, but he would be better if he had recover as an ability and only cost 4-5 pts not 8 pts with an upgrade.

Same with IG88 and Boba Fett, He just isn't point wise, economical, they are fun to use, but making them more expensive is not a good fix. Honestly, with those last 3 characters, their lackluster special abilities really hamper them as much as their point cost.

Boba Fett, can't recover AND add +2dmg. I don't know how many times I have an extra surge (green, yellow and blue) but I can't really use my surges to do anything so they are wasted. He never does as much damage as he needs to, to justify his cost, but part of it is his cutsey-worded special ability that should have never existed. If he just had the surge abilities to cause +2 dmg, recover 2 or get 2 accuracy, he would be better, not great, but better.

IG88 really needs a blue die and a targeting computer, plus his ability not innate +2 accuracy. He as the same problem, he can't stay alive or shoot as well as the lesser robots in the merc army. If he had a blue die plus 2 "pickum dice." I don't think Assault is used often enough, unless he's going to die anyway.

I think it's a solid card for Boba or IG-88. Pierce helps Boba do more damage and IG-88 can use the extra range.
However, I don't really think it's worth 1 point.

Greedo is good because he's so cheap. He doesn't really need to increase his cost by 25%.

Bossk can use the range but I think he does better with Headhunter.

Dengar... might help him a bit too I guess but with him you want to shoot high point stuff to stun, bleed, weaken it.

Ultimately, Scum have lots of better 1 point upgrades. I'd take Devious Scheme, Headhunter, Beast Tamer, Last Resort or Temp Alliance before I took Prey on the Weak. And you don't want to drop 3-4 points up upgrades, because then you'd be probably better off with another Ugnaught, Nexu or Hired Guns.

Yeah, Scum probably has the most good options for 1-point Upgrades.

Also, FWIW it looks like we're getting another Scum Upgrade called Black Market with Jabba's pack. Unrevealed point cost and full text so far though:

Yes, that was what first drew me to the scum faction. Many funny upgrades. Though perhaps they need some sort of support for them - a command card or something to make up for the lack of figures in return.

Looks like you can have a friendly merc character take 1 strain to reveal the top card of your deck and choose one of: Change the card's cost to something? Discard the card and gain VP equal to its cost? Or put the card back on top of your deck.

Edit: the first option is probably "restore health equal to the card's cost to that figure"

It's definitely "to the card's cost to" which I would guess is "... equal to the card's cost to" which implies that you're dealing damage or healing damage equal to the card's cost.

Can someone please explain how Prey on the Weak would help Greedo against eStormtroopers? They have a cost of 9, or do you take the unit cost/# of figures?

It looks at figure cost which is reinforcement cost for eStorms = 3.

Figure cost is the Reinforcement Cost, which is the small number on the card next to the large Deployment Card Cost.

Hi,

thank you both for the replies! Makes much more sense now.
