While I love Thrawn as much as the next sw fan, I don't think he makes a lot of sense in IA. He makes all the sense to have in Armada though. Just as Veers wouldn't make a lot of sense in Armada, but all the sense in IA.

True I kind-of understand that yes, good point. Though for just wanting the fig, a nice scenario where rebels are breaking into an Imperial Bunker to assasinate/interrogate Thrawn would maybe thematically work.
Would work. I would also buy and paint for sure! ![]()

It would be a decoy or something even more clever; there's no way a pathetic band of rebel commandos would be able to outwit Thrawn! I'd be disappointed if they did that ![]()
And, based on the missions so far, it would be: "The Elite Imperial Officer is Thrawn. Apply additional health to Thrawn equal to 3x the threat level" and then *maybe* give him some special ability.
1. Thrawn is a Grand Admiral. His specialty is in Space Combat. Not ground guerilla ops.
2. Thrawn is a Grand Admiral. Why would he be on the front lines? (Its already ridiculous that General Sorin is on foot. Atleast Weiss was in an AT-ST.)
Its simple people would buy it for the figure, or for some upgrades. Heck why not just do an officer expansion wave:
Rebels:
Admiral Ackbar
Mon Mothma
Bail Organa or Garm Bel Iblis
Empire:
Grand Admiral Thrawn
Grand Moff Tarkin
General Veers/Admiral Piet/Other Imperial Officer
Scum:
Bib Fortuna
Prince Xizor
Oola (Just because someone asked about her in another thread, and to introduce a new Distracted negative condition.)

I am with you on this. I include Palpatine in this too. We don't need to see high level supreme commanders down in the trenches. It lacks verisimilitude. I wasn't even happy with Jabba, but if the fight takes place in his palace, I could see it. These high level military leaders like Tarkin and Admiral Ackbar? That'd be like sending Chester Nimitz on a behind enemy lines parachute drop to take out some high level Germans at some French chateau.
To be honest I do agree with everything said theme-wise, but Id still like the minis
They gotta get out of the spaceship and stretch their legs sometimes huh. Basically its trying to invent an almost-plausible scenario to justify the mini being included within the product line, which I would be ok with and buy, but I do accept a lot of other people wouldnt be as it would introduce un-thematic aspects in their own games if an oponent turned up with that character (though there are always house rules to avoid this).
It would just be nice for the minis ![]()
Also, their is always the aspect that this game creates "what-if" scenarios. We have seen that already with matchups that are unlikely or impossible thematically. What if Thrawn did decide he was getting too light-blue and needed a tanning holiday on Tatooine...

Palpatine can hold his own in a fight and I'm sure we will see him sooner rather than later, I expect sometime around the next box expansion probably in a skirmish wave, and I imagine we will also see Yoda at some point as well, despite him never fighting in the GCW. FFG is going to release expansions of characters people know to get them to buy them, so I would imagine we will see most if not all of the big name characters and especially if they show up in newer content like Rebels. And Tarkin was shown in Rebels overseeing a battle, he wasn't even that far from it so I wouldn't rule him out, and seeing that they don't seem to care about timelines or if the character died in Episode 4 or before it further makes him seem more likely.

Tarkin was shown in Rebels for the same reason as Thrawn, and the same reason people want to see him in IA, he's a recognizable character, and there is a certain expectation of his inclusion. The same task that Tarkin would fill could be done by making a new unit called "Imperial Commander" and making it a sort of elite version of an Imperial officer. As was said, people just want the mini, I can sympathize.

Well, to be fair, Chewbacca could have been "Wookiee Smuggler", Leia could have been "Rebel Commander", and Boba Fett could have been "Jet-Pack Bounty Hunter". All of the main characters could have been reduced to their archetype, but what fun would that be? Tarkin was on the Death Star when Luke and co. invaded. Palpatine was on the DSII when Luke fought Vader. That's more than enough reason for them to appear, if only as mission objectives. But these are characters who had abilities, combat oriented or no. For my two-cents, FFG has been great thus far at infusing unlikely characters with thematic, interesting abilities that separate them from similar no-name units. If they choose to do Tarkin or Thrawn, I have faith that their characters will translate decently into the game setting, even if just in a support capacity.
I actually have more fondness for the unknowns. I just wish FFG would make them worthwhile to take in the game.
How many of you play Saska, Biv, Fenn, Mak, Loku, Verena, Gaarkhan ? I think Davith and Murne have made some headway. I know a lot has changed from the starter set as well. But I would love to play these other characters and not feel at a disadvantage

I get your point though if you want to play them you can always break the characters down into their Tank, DPS, and Support roles then shuffle them and hand them out to the players as a homebrew rule.
Thrawn can EASILY be in this game. So what if he's specialty is as a "Fleet Admiral"...doesn't mean he sucks at being ground control. ESPECIALLY early on when he's introduced in Rebels. He could easily be in charge of the "Dark Trooper" regiment we see in the previews. SOOOOO...with that, he could have a special ability that deals primarily with Droids or just specifically with Dark Troopers.
Who knows, but I want him and would gladly buy him at $10 and get to paint him. That's better than Armada/X-Wing where you can paint the ship, but not the guy himself!
Edit: Oh and forgot, whose to say we don't get some Chiss snipers or something in that expansion. More blue guys!!

Edited by Don_SilvarroWe do actually see Vader doing ground work on both Hoth and Bespin throughout the movies. Definitely seems like an active tool to me. Compared to Tarkin, who we only see hanging out at the Death Star.
Very true, but then again we also see a small rebel force infiltrate that Death Star on a rescue mission while Tarkin is on it. True that we dont know how close they physiically get to him (Bit big that Death Star, some would say a small moon) but hes still there all the same and you would think that if our rebels were good enough to get to some important bits (Was it shields or tractor beam that Ben got to?) then its not outside the bounds of possibility.
Edit: For what its worth Id quite like a Palpatine and a Tarkin too please
:) Oh and a Mara Jade, and..

Thank you Aermet69 for starting this point. Exactly? Exactly like having Darth Vader? As was pointed out. Vader took part in a boarding action. Led troops into Echo Base, and lead the forces at Bespin. Additionally in Star Wars he was hands on the death star, to include grabbing a couple pilots and leading them into space combat. Additionally, as was pointed out, Tarkin was nothing more than chief administrator of the Death Star. He has demonstrated no ability to lead troops. He may have come up through the ranks running the supply fleet for all we know. After all, he apparently knew nothing of the dozens of Jedi that were running around harassing Imperial Forces. I'm sure the Death Star has a head of security that would be responsible for detecting and capturing, or killing, any would be infiltrators. When one of his aids come to him wanting to shuffle him off the station because they saw they same threat that the Rebels did, Tarkin was too arrogant to believe it was a problem. It was Vader who suggested tracking the Millennium Falcon. "I'm taking an awful risk, Vader. This had better work." Thus demonstrating his upper management risk averse style of leadership.

No, we don't. Vader doesn't wade into the Tantive IV troopers slashing arms off. He does not charge into Echo base and behead random extras while doing space wizard ninja flips. He does not go running down the corridor after Leia and Lando at Bespin.
Vader only enters the scene when all the troopers are done mopping up to assess the scene and make sure everything is in order. Vader does no actual groundpounder fighting in any of the OT movies. Only thing Vader ever does in regards to personal violence is a couple of very personal and highly ritualized swordfighting duels. Vader isn't a military asset, he is a personal agent of the Emperor, sent whenever and wherever the Emperor wants to underscore the fact that no screwups will be tolerated. He's purely a supervisory agent.
What I actually find frustrating is that non-movie content, and especially gaming content, is hung up on the fact that for some reason, Vader should be extremely powerful physically and a beast with a lightsaber and should wade into the fray to personally carve up rebels. He never does that. That's missing the point of the character.
The entire point of Vader in the OT isn't that he's so powerful and scary that he can beat anybody up.
It's that he's so powerful and scary that he doesn't ever need to beat anybody up.

Tarkin knew "nothing of the dozens of Jedi that were running around harassing Imperial Forces" because... wait for it... there were ZERO Jedi running around harassing Imperial Forces. Remember when Jedi were extinct, and Luke was the very... last... one????? Tarkin was only in Ep IV. All those other Jedi were retconned many years later due to a seeming lack of material to write about. You can't claim Tarkin to be in the dark on something that was only invented after he was dead.

If you've seen my posts in the past you'll know I was being completely facetious. They Jedi WERE supposed to be extinct, but as you have rightly said, much retconing has taken place since those days.
Why do I feel a sudden "what have the Romans ever done for us?" sketch coming on with a re-skin being "When have the Jedi ever been not-extinct for us?"
