Force Friday?

By Keoki, in X-Wing

Anyone heard what (if anything) FFG will be releasing on Force Friday this year? It's scheduled for September 30.

Assuming it is like last year we won't officially hear anything till the day of.

I'd bet on seeing the U-Wing and TIE Striker previewed on or around September 30. I think there's virtually no chance that Disney/asmodee/FFG passes up on the opportunity to release Rogue One ships at the same time as the movie. My bet is that they are released as part of wave 10, which is nominally scheduled to hit shelves by Christmas.

If you go back to last year, that's essentially how things worked out for the T-70 and TIE/FO. They were revealed after force friday (though not on force friday itself if memory serves), as part of wave 8, and were released in time for Episode 7.

There's practically a zero percent chance that we do not get the Rogue One ships eventually, and the most sensible time for FFG to release them is alongside the movie.

It also should be pointed out that it seems that FFG will release wave 9 on time - they predicted late Q3 2016 when they announced the wave, and we already have the ships at Gencon. I don't think there will be a long gap between that release and general sales.

I'd say that there's also an outside chance that we see a starter set with the U-wing and Striker, but I think that is pretty unlikely

It'll be a 'surprise'.

... we're pretty sure we already know what it is, but it's meant to be a surprise. ;)

The release of Wave 9 will be timed with Force Friday, probably.

I don't think we'll get the U-Wing and TIE Striker until Wave 11 in summer 2017.

God, I hope not. I don't want to see a million different core boxes. I like where it is now, you have old ships and "current" ships. A new side-story isn't enough to warrant a new core box, but a brand new trilogy spearheading a large amount of feature-length Star Wars content certainly is. It would be a mistake to assume a new core box.

Now seeing the ships themselves, as stand-alone expansions? I absolutely have no problem with that. I always love more content for my favorite table-top, and trust FFG to handle it properly. A U-Wing and TIE Striker core box would be overkill, in my opinion.

wave 9 and Heros of the Resistance are ear marked to be released on that day. But We'll see.

I also hope whatever does get released on Force Friday remains a secret to me until the article goes up. It got spoiled for me at a store tournament and I was grumbly about it the rest of the day.

I hope this time they actually get information about what the ships are LIKE in the movie before having to make the toys.

Cough. Remember Red Ace and Blue Ace??? Or PS8 Poe?

All of those non-named Epsilon Ace, Omega Leader etc.

Yah. Don't do that. There were four named pilots in ep7. Flobbing use them, instead of having to make a separate expo.

They have already stated they had much more access to content for Rogue One than they had for FA.

Apparently it will be Rogue Friday instead of Force Friday this year.

Wait, wave nine and ten are going to release within three months of each other? I thought wave nine was a week away or so, not six weeks.

My money is in scum aces or huge ship for a few reasons.

1- Is because there is one missing sku between heroes of the resistance and wave 10, so whatever it is it will be boxed as one.

2- I doubt (but never know) that they would release another core set just for a spin off movie. That really doesn't make sense to me. I think people are doing some wishful thinking there

3- We just got an imperial veteran upgrade, and HotR coming out. I think scum is bout due for ace pack

4- Rebels and Imperial both have 2-3 huge ships out now. We've seen the "leaked image" of the scum huge ship (though some claim it was fake, and I've yet seen any evidence to prove this) even if it was fake, still doesnt change the fact scum is in need of a huge ship for epic play.

Just because we are getting the new movie in December doesn't mean for sure we will be getting ships from it as soon as it's released. Actually holding off on that gives ffg more design time, and not have to use up all the goodies. Lord knows they are scratching the bottom of the barrel (at least imo) for rebel ships

It's gotta be the missing SKU, HOTR and Wave 9 for Force Friday. Makes sense.

But FFG needs to throw us a bone, man. I doubt a Target leak will hit this yea

You forgot about one thing.... the almighty boat!

You will now pay the price for your lack of vision.

Because we can't have you running aground now, can we?

The problem is in part that the mouse may not be letting them do what they want right now. Rebel players want a big fix for the T-65, we need some love for the E-wing, and some new Y-wing pilots would be nice. You can also throw in phoenix squadron A-wings, and if you really wanted to a prototype version of the B-wing. Also going off next season maybe some other YT-2400 pilots as well (maybe even scum). Of course this is all re-prints of current ships though, which at this point I am comfortable typing there's a growing number of players who would not mind reprints as long as A) It has a really nice paint scheme and B) the pilots/upgrades are balanced enough buying this pack is going to keep Rebel players satisfied with these ships for a long time. (at least 4 to 6 waves if not longer). Couple with this the need to introduce newer players to the game, while also showing them that they do not have to buy the older packs if they don't want to, is a very steep challenge. Then throw on demands of the mouse and we get sabines TIE fighter and the ARC-170 (don't get me wrong, the Arc is an unexpected surprise, and i'll pick up at least two, but there weren't many in favor of a rebel Arc-170 before the anouncment. If anything I think people were expecting imperial if it was to be added. And the TIE has merit, if nothing else, just not my first choice for the rebel faction. some cool cards in there though.)

Honestly it's a 50/50 shot as for what happens on force friday. Maybe it's scums ace pack, or maybe (going off of the Armada campaign box) it's a rogue one campaign box with a U-wing and a two TIE strikers (NOT another coreset.).

I think they'll announce a ground combat game in X-Wing scale (kind of like Epic 40k).

The starter with have the U and the striker.

I think it is very reasonable that FFG may make another core set this time.

Rogue One has what many of the other spin-off movies wont have- the main two factions of the classic era at war with each other in the classic era, and not just there but fore-front and center of the movie.

This movie already has the actual possibility of a box containing the U-wing, and the TIE Striker, so there is a possibility we'll get them in a core....or maybe a less interesting core set of a T-65 Xwing and two TIE Strikers. The wing is the classic ship after all.

I just hope (and God-willing it'll happen) that this movie has enough action in an wing for it to warrant a new blister or bo or something that has an x-wing fix.

As for those that think FFG might do something like releasing a core set every new movie I dont think that will happen. So other movies we possibly have coming are what: a Boba Fett movie, will have what him doing Bounty Hunter stuff, same with Han Solo's younger years movie, young han doing smuggling jobs, maybe running into trouble from the Empore, but mostly he'l be worrying about Jabba, etc.

So both of those, dont really seem like they'll warrant an actual core set to be released. Yes they'll get some releases, but not a new whole core rules box.

And if by some strange chance we get a Clone Wars era movie, it will likely introduce Clone Wars hips, but I dont see that happening! Hell that might get a core set, but with Clone Wars rules that might be something entirely different.

I dont think FFG will have a bunch of new core sets, coming out every year for the next 4+ years. But I do not put it past them trying to jump on the marketability of doing it for Rogue One, and possibly episodes 8 and 9.

I also really hope they taketheir time with some releases and wait to rlease new pilots/crew after seeing movies they are in, and make sure they get the feel of said character right, and not just rush out a box to make money as the movie is being released (though I'm sure they'll try to make money in synchronized releases).

I could see a Striker/U-Wing set (or indeed maybe a Striker/GIANT STEALTH SHUTTLE set and a U-Wing/new paintwork x-wing set) coming out for ROgue One release time, that would be great.

U-Wing / Tie Strike starter sounds like an awful idea. We do not need three starter sets. Just release them as individual ships.

Rogue squadron pack!!!

As I said, ffg will not release another core set for a spin off movie. I think people are going to be disappointed. They just released a second core set last year because there was the new trilogy, and included new ships for a new faction. Therefore they decided make a core set with updated rules.

Another reason why I don't think it'll have a tie in with the new movie is because if they did scum is not included.

One thing scum needs right now is an aces pack, so my money is on that, or poss huge ship. Makes sense to me. There is one missing sku, and Imperial just got an update, and rebels are getting one as well. Scum is very likely next. Scum has also caught up ship count wise, so another reason why they probably aren't releasing new ships for 2 out of 3 faction

It sounds like Force Friday doesn't have anywhere near as many new items being launched as it did for The Force Awakens. Not sure how impactful this is to X-Wing, but inquisitive minds have been able to suss out how many new codes have been put aside for release in stores during the day.

I've been trying to keep up on the eventual release of the Revan Black Series figure, which is why I recall seeing someone post the data somewhere (I think on Reddit).

I'm surprised they wouldn't have figured out what FFG items might also be coming, as I'm sure they'd have some related coding in the data they were sifting through.

I am still hopping for scum epic ;)
