Is Wave 10 Making People Stupid?

By Bubbachop, in X-Wing

Maybe it's just because I haven't delved too deep into the hobby yet, but I really like the new ships. Sure I was taken back a bit by the Quadjumper and Sabine's TIE, but at the same time, at least we're getting ships seen in the current canon material. As awesome as some of the ships from the old EU are, most newer fans wouldn't recognize half of them. I'm on the younger side of the spectrum of fans, so I recognize many of the ships mentioned in this thread by name, with only a few actually having a picture in my mind to be matched with. Those only come from the old "New Essential Guide" series of books. Most fans my age or younger wouldn't recognize them, even by name. I believe that FFG is targeting that audience, rather than the older fans.

I strongly suspect we will see any "new" (Rebels, upcoming movies) ships make it to the game immediately. OTOH, FFG is often going to need to produce a ship that fits a game mechanic they want to introduce, and the EU is going to be the best source to find that ship.

I agree that we haven't seen the end of the EU, but people need to stop bashing the ships from Rebels and TFA. I get that they're upset that some of the ships only have a few seconds of screen time or are from a TV show, but they're going to be much more recognizable to newer and younger fans of Star Wars than most of the ships left in the EU.

I claim this thread in the name of Scum and Villainy.

The Ghost and the Brobots would like to have a word with you.

What's the disparity between their listed size and their size in-game (using 1/270 scale)?

My point was an obscure one; that by game mechanics, ships like the K-wing and Phantom have the same footprint and that's no problem. By the mechanics of the game, every ship is basically a cube or rectangle. But GOD FORBID our precious scale is a little off on the miniatures.

By game mechanics, the Ghost and the Aggressor are exactly the same size. But their relative scales MUST BE PERFECT OR THE GAME WILL BE RUINED OR SOMETHING.

A significant part of this game's appeal is how gorgeous the ships are and how it's all to scale.

If standard game ships were suddenly out of scale, that would degrade that a little.

Wave 10 is definitely most shocking wave. At least its three ships are all better than the punisher.

Let's do a simple exercise where you list what you think are the top 3 stupidest ships in X-wing. Cause this is a thread about stupid, right?

1) Tie Punisher -- I like the Tie Bomber, but this thing is hideous. All pilots overpriced. Poor design. 0 purchased

2) Aggressor -- What an ugly duck. If only it looked like anything else, cause then I would fly it. Cool unique playstyle with good design. 0 purchased

3) Decimator -- It just gives this vibe that it's genetically malformed, very creepy. Only released to sooth Imperial crybabies need for fat turrets. 0 purchased

Honorable mentions of stupidity goes to HWK-290 and E-wing.

Bonus points for bragging about all the ships you haven't purchased.

Quadjumper actually turns out to be the best of wave10. It looks like Star Wars, whatever that means. And hopefully, it will finally give Scum a viable ships in the 15-23 point range.

Upsilon is just another shuttle, big deal

Rebel Tie Fighter just ain't cool like the N-1 is

Stupid makes people stupid. Wave 10 just lifted the veil.

But their relative scales MUST BE PERFECT OR THE GAME WILL BE RUINED OR SOMETHING.

Correct, if the models are not in scale I might as well play with proxy models or just the bases. The models have to be in scale. It annoys me to no end that my imperial raider is not to scale. And it is totally not for gameplay reasons either, because a bigger raider would not block other ships and could have the same sized bases. Small base ships with below the raider anyway.

WHY ARE YOU NOT IN SCALE; WHYYYYYYY!?

I'm afraid so

Gotta say, the Quadjumper grows on me. I hope it will be justified in multiples so I can do some repaints.
