No Man's Sky

So I kind of just learned about this game.

I'm told the pre-order ship looks like a Z-95 but haven't seen it and it's too late now to get it for free.

It sounds pretty sweet, and I've been watching some stream feeds of it that have me thinking I need to get this game.

Is anyone playing it?

What do you think?

Should I stop thinking and just buy it?

From watching streams it looks like finding door access cards is a choke point. And I see complaints about inventory space.

And someone said they found "ewoks"

I don't believe I had ever heard of this game before reading this thread. Looking at a couple reviews for it, it doesn't seem like it's really my cup of tea, but it sounds like it could be pretty interesting to the right people.

From what I read, the first few hours are rather monotonous, just trying to get resources to survive, but once you build up to the point where survival is no longer an issue, exploration becomes a much bigger factor.

My son read about this game earlier this year. He's been saving and patiently waiting for it to be released. It was going to come out at the beginning of the summer and he worked extra chores and such to come up with the cash....just to have them push back the release date. So, he just ordered it yesterday, which....I think allows him to get the pre-order ship? I sure hope so as he's been wanting the pre-order ship and we just kind of spaced on ordering it.

My son is 11 and into Minecraft. I think this is a game he will really dig. I think it's a game that you can really explore for a very long time, if you are into it. I'm very curious to see what my son thinks. I do like the aspect that there won't be any griefers to ruin anything he sets up. Not sure really how much you can set things up.

I did look at it just now and watched some game play videos. It does seem pretty cool. I'm sure I'll try it sometime.

My son thinks it comes out on Thursday, so I need to make sure he knows it comes out today.

It officially released today on PS4, and will release on Friday for PC.

Pre ordered. Looking forward to it friday.

Saw a demo of it earlier this year, it looked very promising in the open universe space exploration / space opera vein.

I hadn't paid much attention since then, haven't been playing many games at all to be honest, but I'll be looking forward to seeing if it lives up to it's potential

I'm waiting on reviews but I've been looking forward to this for a while.

Pick up my preorder tomorrow.

I know i dont post on here much but you wont see me forweeks now!

Looking forward to it, but need to buy a new PC before I can run it. I haven't shopped for a gaming PC since... 2004?

Are those $500-$650 gaming PC deals on newegg worth the money? I know nothing about PC gaming anymore!

I've been playing it since yesterday. If space exploration + survival, occasional fighting, and lots of trading/crafting/light-rpg elements is your thing, you should enjoy it.

Be warned. Lots of inventory management is endemic to the game (perhaps a tad much, I hope they dial back a thing or two).

I'm enjoying my time.

So far I've named multiple animals and three planets:

The Garden of Meat Eatin' (several of predatory species including what I named the Great Green Jerkraffe, technically a paradise type world)

Rad Delicious Apple (irradiated, red planet, life-bearing)

And Planet Coppertop (no indiginous life other than scattered flora, massive floating mounds of copper)

I'm waiting on reviews but I've been looking forward to this for a while.

When I was looking yesterday, I even saw an article that said you should take all the instant reviews with a grain of salt. The article said that it could take a really long time before you really get into the swing of the game...because it's so in depth. Playing for 10 hours might not really give you a decent feel for the game to write a fast review. It seems to be one of those games that you can play for years and enjoy. Kind of like a really long game of Sid Meier's Civilization.

EDIT: Oh, and you will probably find a couple people that hate some minor aspect of the game....like how jetpacks work....and trash the whole thing after a few hours of playing.

Been watching this game for awhile now. It looks amazing. I hope my 4 year old PC can handle it.

I have a friend with more money then sense who upgrades his pc every year. Every couple of years he sells his old rig or parts to me for super cheap. I just got a whole new system for under $150 that was state of the art about a year or two ago. I'm very very lucky.

So I heard this game isn't really multiplayer. Each player is in there own instance of the game. Kind of a bummer that you are out their alone.

I thought I heard it was multiplayer, just so huge that you're unlikely to ever run into anyone unless you deliberately decide to meet up.

It is multi player, but I'm not sure how feasible it is to actually plan to meet up with someone online. It's supposed to be HUGE and I'm not even sure if you could actually figure out where you are in relation to each other to even meet up.

I have actually heard that the whole alone feeling is a built in part of the game.

I also like the aspect that griefers will be few and far between.

I don't have a PC, so I'm skipping this and Dreadnought. Dreadnought happens to be made by the guys who made XvT, so I'm fairly down about the situation.

Looking forward to it, but need to buy a new PC before I can run it. I haven't shopped for a gaming PC since... 2004?

It depends. The entry-standard is like an i5 3.0GHz Processor and a GTX 900-series GPU. But I imagine those will get a bit outdated in a few years time. If you have a specific one youre looking at, shoot me a PM and I'll help ya out.

Hey, so this might be a stupid question, but we've been an X-Box family for so long I don't even know how PC games work, anymore.

If I buy a copy of the game (on Steam, or whatever) can my son and I both install it on two separate computers and play it at the same time?

I seem to be seeing things that indicate I would have to buy it twice for us to both install it and play it, but that doesn't seem right...

You would need two separate purchases. Steam allows you to install the same game on multiple computers, but only one computer can be playing the game tied to a specific account at a time (if I open up a game on my laptop, it kicks me off the game on my desktop). You would need to purchase the game on two separate accounts to be able to both play it at the same time.

From the Wikipedia

Within 24 hours of the game's official launch, Hello Games reported that more than 10 million distinct species were registered by players, exceeding the estimated 8.7 million species identified to date on Earth.

Wow. If only us nerds could harness our collective powers for good.

We already have we've solved several genetics projects that have stumped science for years.

Also alot of us donate run time for science.

Just because you don't work for good doesn't mean the rest of us don't.

Don't get me wrong, I'm aware of the plenty of good things us nerds have achieved. Mapping the starry skies , decoding countless pages of text , unravelling nerves , solving crimes , etc.

But in only 24 hours!?

Can you imagine what would be achieved if every single one of those players dedicated that time in a 24 hour window to collaboratively achieving a single goal. Mind boggling.

Totally makes sense, thanks.

Now if only I hadn't gotten the 11 year-old so excited about it... lol.
