What would you like to see in the Spy sourcebook?

By verdantsf, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

I love all the item creation rules that have been popping up lately. I think the Spy sourcebook would be the perfect opportunity for Poison creation rules. Getting some custom versions of the base AoR poisons with greater than Average difficulty in a single dose would be great. Or the ability to mix two poisons, so that on a success, the primary procs, while the secondary procs with enough advantages.

What other things would you all like to see?

Poison creation, you say?

A kind of combat spec that gives Spies a focus on combat with a different flavor than Infiltrator--something ranged, more likely than not. Maybe also a face specialization, or at least something semi-social.

I suspect that Special Modifications' rule section on slicing encounters will reappear. Anything on how one can inject Stealth into a combat encounter would be nice (if it appears in Endless Vigil, that's fine). Gear is really a tossup, but maybe some smoke grenades or something.

YES. For me, the biggest oversight in the Spy career is that none of the current specializations include a Charm/Deception reroll. The ability to charm and manipulate a foe into trusting you is one of the first things I think of with the word "spy."

I'm hoping for species stats for Defel and Clawdite (though I could see Clawdite in the EotE Bounty Hunter book instead).

Great choices for spies!

I'd like to see a non-fighty infiltrator. The one we have is a close combat monster but doesn't have a whole lot of tradecraft.

I want to work on this book so, so, so bad.

If you happen to get to work on it .....might I request a section that gets into the nitty gritty details of both Imperial and Alliance Intelligence? I would love for some stand up information on the ISB and II that can be used to play off of AI.

As for mechanics, I've never been too big into poison mechanics. Such things seemed to be the weakest aspect of any given rpg that tries to use such things. I will second a Face type spec. I think the game needs it's James Bond type after all. But what I would also love to see is a spec dedicated to disguises. A Master of Disguises if you will. It kinda boggles the mind that the Infiltrator is all about close combat fighting (which is kinda awesome if it had a different name) but offers nothing for really sneaking in and making use of mask and disguises and going unseen. So I think that's what I'd like to see.

For all I know the book has already been worked on. I wouldn't have any say in what section they give me, in any case. So yeah, it's not like I'd really be in any sort of position to take requests. Just saying that of all the AOR Careers, Spy is probably the one I'd be most excited to write, read, use, or whatever. Because spies!

We definitely need a "face" spec for the Spy, focused around wheedling information, turning assets, and provoking enemy action. They could poach the Informant or Blackmail talents from Desperate Allies to round out the tree.

Bith - because kark it FFG, you won't put it anywhere it seems.

Interrogator - let me make a character like Sinjir Rath Velus.

Well here's to hoping that when they get around to writing the book that they take it into consideration on their own :D

I'm going to make a guess for Kubaz in the Spy book. Umbarans make for a distant possibility. Defel are a good guess, but I'd save them for Bounty Hunter more than anything. Clawdites and other shifters aren't an objectively bad choice, but something about the concept of including them in the game is unappealing to me, so I usually go out of my way to avoid considering them as options.

An expert Deciever; social character who is an expert at talking their way into places would be great.

A Sneak/Stalker similar to Thief but more Military focused than Underworld.

Then lastly an Interrogator with Coercion, Charm, Xenology and Discipline; gets the info however possible.

Clawdite would be great.

Poisons and interrogation drugs, similar to Blackbirds which are great. Stealth weapons and equipment too.

An expert Deciever; social character who is an expert at talking their way into places would be great.

I'd like to see something like this expanded into a "Chameleon" role where they are also masters of disguise and have a talent allowing them to fake skills they don't have. A rank of Well Rounded in the tree would be nice too.

I love that idea. "Fake it 'til you make it" should be the name :D.

Courier could be an idea, a specialization about ships and vehicles that don't stand out. You always need someone to deliver and pick up dead drops, drop of a crate of ion grenades to a rebel cell, or smuggle put an important individual. Talents that let them change the ID SIGNATURE of their ship, so as to appear as a simple cargo hauler etc.

While combat is handled by an ace, and they can do the fancy flying, sometimes you need somone to, I don't know.. Fly casual. Relying on smugglers to do that is foolhardy. You need someone who believes in the cause.

More recon ships and vehicles. Maybe some ships and vehicles commonly used by local defense forces so they can travel unnoticed or be used for ops where te Alliance doesn't want the Empire to realize the rebels were behind the mission.

Every play Adventure! from White Wolf? There's a talent in that game one of the archetypes can get where they will seem credible about anything in conversation until they meet an expert or have to demonstrate their abilities.

First thing I thought of when I saw what you posted. Would like something like that back in my life.

An Interrogator would be awesome. Pity there are no Conflict talents in AoR :P

Also combining the master of disguise with the face would likely be a good idea.

That U-wing from Rogue One would be pretty cool to have. I would fit well with the Spy.

I'm half way betting that the Assassin tree will end up as part of the Spy career.

I hope we don't see more duplicated specs in Spy - Assasin, Gadgeteer, Charmer, Performer and Gunslinger would all fit without too much complaining... But we already have 2 duplicates with Scout and Slicer, Spy's have diverse skills but they also have specialist training, I hope all 3 are new and creative.
