HERO's BigFish vs Lyraeus's Dodonna the Oppressor

By Lyraeus, in Star Wars: Armada

As a Close Personal Friend of HERO, I have to say my money's on him. I've watched him wreck kids at tournaments with this list, and it's a scary sight. I've seen him go up against list that I thought for sure would punish his three activations and reliance on Ackbar, only to watch him 10-0 those lists.

HERO is a great player, and that goes beyond any list composition. Don't sleep on him, boys; he's the real deal!

I am not sleeping on him but I have shredded great players with similar lists so it's the same. We will see. The 80 can do so much

I have to say that I'm impressed by how much this match-up has generated conversation and buzz in the community.

We should definitely set up matches like this more often.

It's like UFC or boxing, Star Wars nerd-edition.

Either way, incredibly good for the community, so everyone wins :)

I feel like this is something of a perfect storm. Most forum arguments don't end this well. This is like the one positive thing that's ever come from arguing on the internet.

The counterpoint. Getting a compliment from Lyraeus is a massive thing.

The time it is an issue is against strangers where they arent aware.

You earned that compliment. MattShadowlord beat my v3 DtO through luck and guile and it was an AMAZING game. He played it great and even out played me in the end.

Luck and Guile!

Thanks, I needed some names for my preordered Flotillas :D

You do remember that after he said that, he got both hands cut off, and was then decapitated?

In like... 30 seconds flat...

Credit where credit is due! Darn you Nym!

I am going to make a Sato the Suppressor list now....

That was my next list but Sato is EXPENSIVE! The cost to activate and such is just so high. . . it will depend on what those Headhunters cost.

It will be all about long rang black dice :)

Its the cost of getting those shots.

Ywing spam? With a hwk or 2 of them to support em. And scout frigates with long range APTs. A few GR75s too. idk

But he was the chosen one!

Hard to pick a side to cheer, as they're both Rebel scum....but I'll guess Lyraeus for the win.

-taps the table quietly for a few moments- I... guess I'll back HERO on this one. Sorry Ly-ly, Hero's got squadrons which I'm always supportive of as a sort of moral high ground. And everyone knows what happens when you have the high ground. Still, it's not so much the volume of firepower so much as the rate of fire that makes me wince more than a bit. DtO might just be able to run under the guns with those numbers and that activation advantage, and RAF's are fickle beasts. Ackbar's boat is worth a ton of points, which right scares me. Digging the name Ackbar the Depressor, good job on that'n Wufame.

Either way, both lists feel really pretty edgy against one another in particular. It feels like it has the makings of a bloodbath or a runaway, pending more on positioning than almost anything else. XI-7 Home One vs small ship, and Dodonna/APT/TRCrit choice against 'the big pinata.

Great idea on the head-to-head idea for a match like this, I'm liking it a lot. Seriously well done. Curious to see how it all goes.

I thought I could count on you. . . Oh well. . . I expected a few to lean that way actually

Guess that teaches me not to read terrible troll honeypots like "FFG is talking about nerfing demolisher". I miss the best drama until it is already coming to a head.

Thank you Biggs for the awesome article.

To let you folks know, I also have a Twitch channel I use for RTS/Strategy games so I will be streaming this live as I play the event. My regular viewers will probably have no clue what the hell I'm doing, but you guys will! I will then save it as a broadcast and it will stay up for the next couple of months.

In fact, I would be 100% down to do this for other players in the future, so I can watch and commentate on the game, and provide some kind of "eSports"-level commentary to the game with several other members of the community like Ly, Biggs, anyone else who would like to cover!

I think this is a huge step for the Armada community overall in terms of unity. It's fun, exciting, and a educational way to play games frankly. It adds a certain degree of fun and suspense, but it's also competitive and serious at the same time.

The embarrassing part about that thread is how fervently we all discussed based on literally no content. There's this pent up rage about Demo I think, from both sides of the aisle. We're all ready to unleash it at any chance we get.

Edit: Seriously though guys. The absolute trash-compactor level of content that was necessary to start that thread makes me really wish for a well-moderated forum.

So we should have no opinion on demo?

Yes, that's clearly what I said. Lol.

So is this game for the belt? Can we get intro music to play before we introduce both players!?
