YT-1760 build
Wow, that poor Falcon! It always hurts a little bit to see that ship chopped up, but I understand why it is done. Your build is coming along really well. We will be watching with great interest.
I'm glad to see people creating so many varieties of YTs. It feels at times that everyone & their brother fly the Falcon. When Leia exclaims "You came in THAT thing?! You're braver than I thought." it makes me think that the real world equivalent would be a beat up moving van, and you don't take those into battle. Granted there have been special modifications, all under the hood of course, but I never felt that every YT should look and work like the Falcon.
I really want to mod my own, but I'm too chicken to do it yet. You have bigger space balls than me.
When it is finally done, can you post larger pics than the work in progress pics? I really enjoy seeing the craftsmanship on these mods and scratch-builds.
Again: good work!

I do love watching someone's "work in progress". I'm looking forward to seeing how this one develops.
That thing is going to look awesome when it's finally complete. Keep us all posted man!
Edited by Jaffamasterok, for the life of me, I cant figure out how to post my pictures so they are viewable.. please help!
Wow. Nice work, keep us posted on pics, also that model reminds me of Jason the rabbit's "Rabbit Foot."
ok, for the life of me, I cant figure out how to post my pictures so they are viewable.. please help!
I use photobucket. Upload your pics, then select a pic & copy the IMG info and paste into your post.
or in the thumbnail view, click the drop down menu in the upper left of your image and select "share". Then copy the IMG info and paste into your post. (Simply clicking the IMG box automatically copies the info for you.)
Just leaving a post so I get updated!
sweet! now imagine this in primer gray

Thank you!!
That YT is looking great!
I think I saw a Star Wars comic image recently with Han and Leia standing on top of one of these.
Please keep it coming!
Inspiring! I save photos from posts that I really admire, print them out and put them in a binder for reference & inspiration on paint jobs and mods I'd like to do. These work in progress pics are ALL going in the binder.
Testors paint! I used to repaint my Mage Knight figures with those! Remember how ugly the paint was on them? Those were what I started on, many moons ago. Now my local shop only carries the enamels, so I moved on to Vallejo, supplemented with GW paints. There's been a decade between using my old Testors and picking up X-wing, but I have to say that if/when your paints run out Vallejo & GW are an improvement. Some people poo poo Testors, but I always loved it; it did what I needed and I was happy with the results.
Is that PVC pipe used in the engines? I'd never thought of trying that. I have a collection of plungers and such from different medicines we've had to give to the kids over the years that are different diameters. One day I'll make good use of them in my own mods.
Since the Force Awakens Falcon is coming out in the Fall, I think I'll buy that one, and mod the classic Falcon. I'll magnetize both of the radar dishes, so I can switch between the two looks as the mood or situation changes.
I have a couple of months to design something that looks right in the SW universe, but is still fairly unique. Seeing your work makes me believe I can do it too.
Keep posting!
Oh, and it looks like you might be having some issue with the plasticard staying flat around the engines...? Heat up some water in a mug in the microwave for a minute, dip in the piece; it will soften so you can shape it. Then lay a damp paper towel or sponge dipped in cold water on it to fix it into shape. It will hug those contours and you won't have to worry about the edges popping up while the glue dries.
It may be too late for this build, but its a decent tip to have in your back pocket for future builds.

I actually tried using a heat gun, and then quickly roll the card around the pvc. I also used gorilla glue and taped in place... only problem is I miscalculated the length of card used, and forgot about the glue actually expands a bit. "Well, lessons learned! "
It's coming along! Do you have a name for it yet?
Not yet. I kinda planned on it being kind of a floater between the Rebels and Scum. Pilot used to fly the star wars equivalent of a trucking company, the company gets wiped out by the empire, pilot takes the company ship and goes freelance.
I'm thinking of having company logos on the engines, that are faded and partially covered by some sort of pinup.
Ooooh, I never thought of giving any of my ships a back story, very cool. That gives the ship another dimension. Maybe in Rebel circles she's known by one name and in the Scum arenas by another...?
When you're done with her, if you don't make a custom Upgrade/Title card for this ship, I will!

And I would print it! Lol
I found a pin up by Dean Yeagle, one of his Mandy pictures. I put a quad laser turret on her butt
In arubesh I wrote "pew pew" in red and in black below, I wrote "tail gunner gal".. at least as best as I could anyway.
The grunge and blaster burns, rust, ect.. is colored pencils. An awesome technique that someone posted in these forums.. I want to give this person their due, but phone is dying fast! Lol
Also! Macrossvf1 inspired me to attempt this build with his AWESOME scratch builds.
Barry Harker! Him! The awesome pencil guy!
Barry, Sixwood, MacrossVF1 and ZombieHedgehog--Those guys are a few at the top of the heap; there's a lot of talent out there.
Don't be shy about slinging some paint. The only way to improve is to put in the time and actually do it. With some washes & dry brush this ship can go from "good" to "amazing" if you are patient.
