Birmingham Nationals!

By Ginkapo, in Star Wars: Armada

Really excited for this, we have a road trip coming down from Huddersfield, the only unfortunate thing is that they are all X-wing players and I am the only Armada player.

Gink, those ships look awesome, I can wait to destroy them :D

I am planning on playing in a load of side events on Sunday so I look forward to getting some games against as many people as possible.

I will be running some MC-30s, I just can decide if they need H9's on them and if they do what do I get rid of to have them.

Yes, they do. :)

I'm consider an all ship list made up of lots of double blue dice anti fighter ships So ISD2s and glad 2s or mc80 assaults and neb B escorts.

Thinking that four ships that could put out 8 blue dice has got to make a ryhmer ball pause.

Well my prediction of the meta based on very little, is that we will see a lot of these:

Demolisher & Friends

Rhymer Balls

RIeekan Squads

So if you can take on Rhymer and Rieekan Squads with AA alone, then you will be a good position to battle with the other fleets.

I personally dont have experience of going that extreme, but in theory it works. I would consider a surgeon strike in IG88 and Mauler though.

Yes I was thinking about maybe go mauler as insurance ( that final wade in at the end could see a whole ball go pop if I get 3-4 ships with blues on ( thinking demo would make that happen) with a second tie for and added deployment, IG would be nice but costly. Could be handy for hunting a wounded duck though.

IG is less for chasing, but for taking out key targets such as Rhymer so that your opponent will struggle with positioning out of your arcs.

Costly though which is why I have never run it. Glad II Demo could do serious damage.

Yes, they do. :)

I second the motion. H9 MC30 Torp Frigates rock. Gonna be even better once flotillas are on the table, but already solid. Double arc and even if they've got ECMs you give them a pretty tough choice. And without ECMs delete a ship, boom, job done!

Advice taken, H9's are on the MC-30's. I had to downgrade a corvette to a B with SW-7's and loose 1 yt2400. So we will see how it goes

Have you been snooping at my lists? I'm back and forward over whether I keep my CR90b with SW-7s or drop it to free up points. Running out of time to decide though!

So we unfortunate souls get bombarded with news of those crazy sods on the other side of the pond, so its time for payback.

(Hence the lack of country signifier in the title just to confuse em!)

Post away about our nationals this weekend.

What are you taking? How many hamburgers will you be purchasing to sustain the 5 round marathon? Plans to buy out their entire stock of Interdictors?

I should be there with Ackbar Star destroyers myself, just have to work out how to fly it without a flotilla. **** Vassal, havent flown wave II in an age!

(Yes, I said d a m n)

Very best of luck Gink! Sorry to be missing it but looking forward to rooting you on!

I'll be there not sure what I'm running, I miss wave 3 :(

Lots of great players across the pond there but I'll be rooting for you Gink!

Really looking forward to this!

I'll be there, Torpedoe frigates ready to go, Mon Mothma will show you all how it's done (maybe, unless I play like I usually do at tournaments).

Now that I have a personal relation to your frigs and Madam Admiral, pls let me know here how it went :)

GL!

Thanks for the luck! I'm sure I'll catch you in vassal next week and fill you in on how it went!

Fantastic day, just wanted to say thanks to anyone on here I played!

The standard of play was so.much higher than any store championship etc I've ever been to!

Made top 16 but feel like I worked for every point!

18th for me, bit disappointed to have missed the top 16 but a bit late for that. But had some good games, don't think I've played against that many Rebels in a long time!

Cheers all for being such a great community. Its so good that we can all go to these tournaments knowing that every match will be great. I really enjoyed my games yesterday.

Ive also learnt that my normal ineptitude on a tabletop is amplified by sitting down. This game is impossible when I cant actually see my shield dials. **** the foot.

I also suspect that the vassal lists I run rely too heavily on perfect maneuvering. Millimetres matter. I am not blaming the tools, I have new tools to learn, and I will be bringing a tabletop list to regionals!

Look forward to playing you guys again.

Ps Please can I not be drawn against Jim first round please...

Great day and very cool opponents throughout the 5 games....sheesh that was a marathon...brain was fried after game 3.

Did way better than I expected and managed to pull off 4th. Really happy about that...best I've ever done.

Thanks to all who made it down. You guys made it a fun, challenging tournament. No easy games

I second all of that, great day but you are right we need to miss each other in the next tournament :D

It was a great day, I enjoyed every game, they were all so close, every game I played could have gone either way, coming down to the flip of a card or a couple of damage not getting through or getting through.

Every one of the five people I played were great, thanks guys....

Gink the game you played with my brother looked mentally funny.....

Had a great time and good matches

Luke needs BCC (1 hit in 6 shots in 2nd round game), but Lando is a star. He saved me twice at important times

Finished 13th in the end

This is so true. Brought luke to my first wave 4 game, first roll was a whiff. There were no more satisfying words spoken than "bomber command" as I picked it up and rolled again.

Haha, and now I know who you are! Yeah his head wasnt in it by this point and I wasnt too bothered by this point either, so I just enjoyed putting my ships in the most annoying positions.

Its not often its the Ackbar player who decides to tokyo drift into the Ozzel players conga line.... its supposed to be the other way round.

Not sure if I've missed it? Who was the final, what fleets were they running?
