Birmingham Nationals!

By Ginkapo, in Star Wars: Armada

So we unfortunate souls get bombarded with news of those crazy sods on the other side of the pond, so its time for payback.

(Hence the lack of country signifier in the title just to confuse em!)

Post away about our nationals this weekend.

What are you taking? How many hamburgers will you be purchasing to sustain the 5 round marathon? Plans to buy out their entire stock of Interdictors?

I should be there with Ackbar Star destroyers myself, just have to work out how to fly it without a flotilla. **** Vassal, havent flown wave II in an age!

(Yes, I said d a m n)

Why are nationals being held in Alabama?.....? Very odd

Pretty excited for this! Trying to decide if I stick with what I ran in Store Champs and Regionals, or if I start tweaking it.

Happy to see they've confirmed the VSD1 alt art will be available in the side events, makes me wish I was arriving earlier on the Friday to play a bit then too! Will just have to power through some rounds on the Sunday instead. Going to be tough deciding whether to watch the top-2 cut or just play more games.

Really looking forward to this!

I'll be there, Torpedoe frigates ready to go, Mon Mothma will show you all how it's done (maybe, unless I play like I usually do at tournaments).

I have to say you got me Gink, since I'm right next to Bham AL. Sucka! :)

Dang it, Gink. I thought FFG finally figured out how cool an event in Alabama would be....But GL in your Nationals!

I sincerly hope this was originally a post to tell me nationals is at ffg centre not alabama.

Your friends across the pond are certainly interested in your games, meta, and results. Post away!

Rieekan has plans to show Mon Mothma how a torp frigate should really be flown.

Apt glads planning to to show all the mc30s what a close in bloodbath is really about, by head butting admonition to death ( who needs dice, when you have engine tec and one more hull point)

Seriously thought the vic card for the side game is great but getting four winning cards is going to be a challenge, that's winning 8 games in row............

Yeah, no easy task. Might be manageable for those that can make it on Friday, but that's just going to leave Sunday gaming for most of us.

Yep I've only got Sunday, if you take an hour a game ( by the time you have a four and set up more like 1 hour 30) you are looking at 8-12 hours solid and winning every game......im not even sure they are staying open that long on the Sunday ?

Campaign to get them to drop it two two tickets.....

Other exciting news. Wave 3 and 4 are on Amazon!

(Please note, they will NOT be legal for this tournament)

Side Game Details: ( I think Jon Davies is wrong, you need to win two straight games to get a winners ticket. 4 player per winners ticket, in a knockout styl e)

Fantasy Flight Games UK National Championship Star Wars: Armada "1st Contact" Side Event

Before you can play in this tournament you will need

  • 1 complete tournament legal 180 point fleet including all miniatures, cards and tokens required.
  • 1 Winner ticket between 4 players supplied by the side event desk

The premise of this side event is that two scout groups meet during a routine patrol of the star system. With each fleet not wanting the other to report back to their admiral, all hell breaks loose!

The event will be run in the single elimination format. Each player will pair off against another random player.

The first round of this side event is timed at a maximum of 90 minutes to play. The winners of each heat will then advance to the second round, whilst the losers are eliminated and free to play in further side events.

The final of this single elimination event is played in an untimed game round. The winner of this final will receive the Winner’s Ticket!

Fantasy Flight Games UK National Championship Star Wars: Armada "Broadside" Side Event

Before you can play in this tournament you will need

  • 1 complete tournament legal 400 point fleet including all miniatures, cards and tokens required.
  • 1 Winner ticket between 4 players supplied by the side event desk

The event will be run in the single elimination format. Each player will pair off against another random player.

The first round of this side event is timed at a maximum of 135 minutes to play. The winners of each heat will then advance to the second round, whilst the losers are eliminated and free to play in further side events.

The final of this single elimination event is played in an untimed game round. The winner of this final will receive the Winner’s Ticket!

It's a hell of a lot of games of armada to win four tickets even if you are on fire......

may have to team up an get a ticket pool going.

Was actually discussing how something like this would work with some friends who're playing in X-Wing at Nationals. They were looking at the dice which are 7 tickets. So that's 7 side events, with 4 players each, at £3 per player. £84. Now presumably they'll disqualify anyone match-fixing, so you'd still have to play out the games and pool the prizes at the end so they'd still be needing to do a full day of gaming just to get one player a set of dice.

In Armada at least you're only talking £48 and 8+ hours of gaming each for a single VSD card.

Maybe Esdevium know something we don't about the quantity of prizes available, or there's plans for other ways to get these tickets. I for one am hoping for the latter! Will re-asses when there but part of me's now thinking I'm not so bothered about side events and will just watch the final on Sunday, see what else is going on, and maybe pick up some casual games.

Ready to go

Good luck!

I'm consider an all ship list made up of lots of double blue dice anti fighter ships So ISD2s and glad 2s or mc80 assaults and neb B escorts.

Thinking that four ships that could put out 8 blue dice has got to make a ryhmer ball pause.
