Love Boat

By Amanal, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Our last session was quite heavy, so I would like to do something light and fluffy.

So the players will be called aboard the "Star Princess" and will help a few couples find love.

Any help in creating a fun session would be gratefully appreciated.

This is gonna be on a Sorosuub 3000 Luxury Yacht right?

You gotta do it!

Okay some storylines... A bitter divorced couple are brought there by circumstance. At first they fight, terribly, then they rediscover why they loved each other in the first place.

A Wookiee and a Trandoshan have a forbidden love that nobody can accept, nobody can possibly understand... And nobody dares say anything about if they know what's good for them.

Bonus points if there's a Drall yeoman purser named Gopher running around.

I have:

Vex-41: Barman and he has done bar work in RP sessions before

Pash: Co-Pilot First Officer - Maybe he is the purser

Mathus: Tech Guru

Osakara: Bounty Hunter - This idea will be hitting him in the dump stats, all of them and hard

Crew and Passenger talent night. Passenger needs a magic assistant or a knife thrower needs a target.

A young man brings his girlfriend on a romantic cruise with the intention of asking her to marry him. The two are nauseatingly in love, but deep down the man is conflicted. He's never been able to bring himself to tell the love of his life that he's actually an operative for the Rebel Alliance, and he begins to question whether or not he should get married while he's living a lie. Perhaps he bends the ear of the local bartender for advice or help.

And for extra fun, the girlfriend of course turns out to be an Imperial Intelligence agent. Can love conquer politics in a galaxy far, far away?

Sounds like a great opportunity for some gambling & games of chance. A fundraiser-type "date auction" could be fun, too, either with PCs bidding for a date, or being auctioned off for charity.

As a nice twist, the PCs could be hired to pose as pirates and "board" the cruise ship to create situations for passenger heroism and derring-do. Once the ruse is revealed, everyone is smiling relieved smiles... until the real pirates attack, in which case mistaken identity and hijinks ensue.

It sounds like a lot of fun, however you decide to do it. I hope you & your players have a good time.

You've gotta set up some great scenarios for social combat.

A friend of mine recently went on a cruise, and she participated in a Speed Dating event one evening: when a group of singles engage in a series of rotating one-on-one short conversations or "dates," voting yes or no at the end of each one to indicate their interest. If both parties vote yes they are given each other's contact information, or keys to their room, or something.

The catch: a group of nefarious political extremists from the [X] system are using the speed dating ring to "get to" the members of the [Y] system's diplomatic delegation, who are taking the cruise as a retreat from the recent discussions around the [Z] conflict. The extremists' plan is to steal diplomatic attache cases, or abduct one of the members, or something. The PCs will have been given notice that these extremists are on board and may be looking to get to the [Y] delegation, and they may end up on a speed date with one of these extremists, and given chances to identify them and/or try to seduce them. Anyways: hijinks.

The more I think about this idea, the more I'm stealing it. ;)

I think my normal opening crawl may be modified for this one, too. Change the Star Wars logo to use the show's logo font and the "wave" border around it. And, of course, change the music to the Love Boat theme.

So if I did Fantasy Island the week after?

Da TIE Fighter boss, da TIE Fighter!!

I had a thought of a Fantasy Planet follow-up, too.

I don't mind saying that I've gotten a bit obsessed with this idea.

So, I'm looking at using the standard Love Boat three-story structure.

Story number one usually involved wacky hijinx among the crew. So, this would be something happening in the background, but the players will cross through this story at various points.

Story number two usually involved one or more guest stars interacting heavily with a crewmember. Easy enough to do.

Story number three was usually the "dramatic" storyline, focused entirely on guest stars/passengers. And that's where the player plot comes in.

This could be a great deal of fun, hammering out those different elements.

Now you're just stealing my campaign ideas...

I actually did an arc along these lines in my old GURPS Space campaign. I was even able to shamelessly / lazily use the names and personalities of the cast because none of my players at the time were familiar with the show.

There's actually something like this in Jewel of Yavin, believe it or not...

OMG!! *facepalm* I take a few days off and it all goes titsup....

Two twi'lek teenagers from different castes/families fall in love

two hutt teenagers from different crime cartels fall in love...... err... do hutts actually fall in love??

etc etc.. yeah, yeah, if anyone says I ripped off Shakey I'll rip your arms off!!!

Fantasy Asteroid?

Mechanic has to repair two droids that have "fallen in love" perhaps to them it looks like a malfunction.

So this session is coming up on Sunday. Most of the pieces are in place.

There's just one bit that's stumping me, and part of the story depends on this aspect of the cruise* - ports of call.

What would you guys recommend as 4-5 ports of call for a nice luxury cruise (without going from one end of the galaxy to the other, that is)?

*(The story's not dependent on where the ports of call are, that is...just that there are ports of call. The players will be tasked with retrieving an Imperial scientist working on a top-secret project who wishes to defect; they'll need to slip her security detail and do so before returning to their original port.)

Four to five ports of call is a good number.

If it were me, I would try to pick places similar to Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Cancun, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Cozumel, Cuba, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Grand Turk, Grenada, Jamaica, Martinique, Nassau, Panama, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, Trinidad and Tobago, Virgin Islands, or other tourist-friendly type locations, where gambling is easy, duty-free shopping is cheap, liquor is free (or nearly free), the best cigars in the world can be found, etc….

Hmmm...just occurred to me....

I'd been looking at just established worlds. But, I wonder how feasible it would be for the cruise line or a related tourist-oriented company to tailor a sector specifically for cruises and tourism.
