Gozanti's Docking Clamps

By Darth Meanie, in X-Wing

So officially, they can carry "TIE fighters, TIE interceptors, TIE bombers, or TIE Advanced."

Does this include TIE/sf, TIE/fo and TIE Adv Prototypes?

Prototype no, FO and SF yes

Prototype no, FO and SF yes

Didn't we actually see the Prototype, like Sabine's TIE, docking with the Gozanti in Fire Across The Galaxy (Season 1 finale) during their escape?

Gameplay And Story Segregation may apply though.

Yes, but as the rules stand the Advanced and Prototype cannot share any title upgrades, as the cards for the Prototype read TIE Adv. Prototype not TIE Advanced Prototype, which seems a silly distinction to make but according to the rules, means that Docking Clamps precludes the Prototype.

But hey, epic is mostly a casual game anyway, so I don't see any reason why you shouldn't if your opponent is cool with it.

Wouldn't this preclude the SF then, since it has the Special Ops title?

No no the text on the ship cards is what is relevant. Was using the example to compare it to the titles available on the Advanced and Prototype.

The technical distinction for ship type restrictions is you must contain the ENTIRETY of the specified ship type to be eligible

Hence

Tie Fighter

Tie/FO Fighter

Tie/SF Fighter

But not

Tie Advance

Tie ADV. Prototype

Blame the nightmare scenario of advanced targeting computer Inquisitor for that

you say nightmare I say wet dream...

Barons with juke, thrusters and accuracy corrector would also be devious... It's for the best I think.

TIE Advanced is allowed on the Gozanti, TIE Adv. Prototype is not. As you indicate if TIE Adv. Prototype was called TIE Advavced Prototype on the card it too would be able to use the docking clamps.

Really, the whole source of the confusion is because everyone sees 'TIE Adv. Prototype' and assume it means 'TIE Advanced Prototype'.

In fact, it actually means 'TIE ___________ Prototype' - the first Mad Libs TIE Prototype. A common misunderstanding, though!

You may attach up to 4 TIE fighters, TIE interceptors, TIE bombers, or TIE Adv to this ship. All attached ships must have the same ship type.

That one small change would have allowed both types of ships to dock.

Except they wouldn't be possible because you can only have one title and TAPs don't have Evade natively.

What I don't understand is why the Docking Clamps card didn't read

OK, I almost can't believe this is serious. Adv. does not stand for "Advanced", and even if it did since it is written as an abbreviation this ship is not allowed to clamp??

Let's not start that again...

Sorry. There were flame wars about this pre release due to silly arguments on how it'd work out.

Gozanti is epic and therefore likely not official event anyway, just use it as a carrier for your TAPS if you like.

I'd house rule it. But yeah, the rules are specific and it's because of V1 for TAP, X1 for Advanced titles.

well, to be fair, the TIE Adv and TAP actually have a legitimately different model, while all 3 the TIEs are only tweaked variations but largely the same thing.

Quite frankly im glad they distinguished them like that. Inquis with ATC is just..no..lol...yeah he'd lose evade but so what hes a sniper and this would solidify him as a sniper since now he auto-crits at RANGE 3(1) and still gets range benefits in retaliation.

Heck, price of the generics might justify a legit TAP swarm with that title.

99.9999% of epic games are casual around the house games.

Put whatever ships you want on there.

Besides, I don't think the models fit anyway. The shape of the wings probably gets in the way. Yeah, that's it! It's all about the models, not the silly dancing around the names. ;)

tbh thats the reason i didnt put Defenders on mine when i thought it could be any TIE long as it was the same TIE for all the embarked ships.

Defenders dun fit. Least mine didnt lol.

I suggest that we have the docking clamp read: "if ship fits in clamp, you may equip." Now everyone is happy :)

Put Phantoms on it if you hate your friends.

Sorry to pick the scab, just not clear to me (and thanks for the most concise explanation).

They do. I cracked the ship pegs on a couple of my TAPs, so now they live on the bottom of my Gozanti permanently. I use tokens on the base of the ship during play to indicate how many ships are docked, because I had visions of Gozanti/fighters/asteroids flying all over trying to undock mid-play.

Yeah, I can only assume there is a power ratio being maintained with the docked ships. OTOH, the TIE/sf may change all that.

I bought an extra one off of a friend who only bought it just for the cards and TIE Fighters.

So I put a docking clamp and radar dish on a Decimator.
