Imperial Trooper Army

By Dlogue, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Hi everyone!

Just starting Imperial Assault for the first time! Looking for something fun that I can run out of the box without too many expansions. Saw the Kayn Somos Commander, seems to add good synergy with the host of troopers in the starter game.

Somos-10

Imperial Officer-2

E-Web- 6

Stormtroopers -6

Stormtroopers -6

Elite Stormtroopers -9

Total 39

Next purchase will probably be Twin Shadows for the heavies.

Had some questions too:

1)The command card Rank and File allows you and adjacent troopers 1 movement point. So potentially do I move up to 9 models now as part of that activation or does that 1 get added on their next turn?

2) Does the stormtrooper box include another copy of normal stormtroopers or just a copy of elite (hard to see with picture of contents)? I would probably trade 3 for the E-Web.

3) Can I use Command Card Squad Swarm to activate a unite of normal and a unit of elite storm troopers? They both have same name, just one is red and one is gray.

1. If your troopers were all in a blob together adjacent to each other, at the beginning of the activation, then yes.

2. Stormtrooper box includes both regular and elite stormtroopers (you'll find elite are better I think, it also includes 2 reinforcements command cards)

3. Yes, as long as you meet the 15 or less cost requirement (which you should)

You may find some use in more officers, especially for the eWeb, check out the FAQ as that directly affects your officers as well in skirmish

Also, to actually get full use out of Kayn you'll need the new advanced coms skirmish attachment that comes in the grand inquisitor's pack. It makes Kayn cost one more point but makes his deployment card abilities (not command cards sadly) go from having to be adjacent to within three spaces instead. Huge upgrade. Should have been a free one though since he's already costing the same as two elite officers who can spread their orders around and are two activations instead of one.

I just tried out a trooper list that was really similar, however I included models from the twin shadows expansion:

Kayn Somos 10

Elite Heavy Troopers 8

-Targeting Computer 1

Elite Storm Troopers 9

Elite Storm Troopers 9

Imperial Officer 2

Rule By Fear 1

If I had the Inquisitor expansion I would replace the Rule By Fear with the advanced comms there but Kayn loves those heavy troopers (and the inspiring speech command card). The targeting computer makes the heavy troopers so reliable and elite storm troopers didn't let me down.

Edit: also after really thinking on it, regular heavy troopers are probably better than the elite, which means a second officer could fit in too.

The Focus from Kayn makes the Blast of the Heavys reliable. Therefore, I would stick to the Elites.
