TIE Defenders were also in a recent mobile game, making them Canon.
oh? I must play this game... remember what it was called?
Star Wars commander if I recall, they are there.
Disney never said their canocity followed Lucas' system of low level canon. Just like how the Imperial Commander's guide came out after Disney axed the EU, Commanders can either be considered Legends or just a game outside the story for gameplay's sake.
I want a StealthX, but that'll never happen.
Probably already did and we didn't notice
Stealth and all that
Disney has yet to make any new legitimate rebel stealth craft or reconnaissance X-wings. Besides, StealthXs stealth systems work so long as you don't use open com channels, hence why the Jedi were the primary users as they communicated telepathically through the force. Wedge used one once without using it as a stealth craft, because Wedge.
@YelshaNu
In fairness to Disney, we've been given the POV of a Stormtrooper through Finn at least. But the Hand of Judgement weren't for defecting - they were for the Empire but not the corruption within the Empire. You could strip out the Mara Jade and main cast elements from Allegiance, expand the Hand of Judgement and you'd have the premise for a really tight thriller about Stormtroopers on the run righting wrongs in the Empire. Could make a good anthology film, or even something the Rebels crew could encounter.
I don't consider the FO to be a continuation of the Empire, and the FO's new Storm Troopers are more of a joke than Palpatines. They're Imperial deserters who are still led by a Darkside Cult and whose military actions are closer to terrorism than justifiable military reprisal and action. They're the Second Empire or Krennel's Hardliners, not the Imperial Remnant.
Secondly, The Hand of Judgement deserted after offing an officer to become vigilantes (justifiably), and when finally caught they were sent to Thrawn's loyalist forces in the UR. Much like anyone with character or who was neutral/good who didn't defect to the Rebellion. My point was a uncommon regarded issue, that permeated throughout much of the EU until they needed an enemy who happened to be worse than the Empire, like Zsinj, the Yevethans, or the Vong. The Imperials are repeatedly black against the Rebel/Republics white, and it's a very poor caricature of warfare when you already have the Jedi and Sith at extremes of white and black.

That guide was commissioned before the announcement, was one of several - and more importantly, was rereleased with a Legends banner attached.
By contrast, Star Wars Commander was very much post-announcement.
Now, with an exciting future filled with new cinematic installments of Star Wars, all aspects of Star Wars storytelling moving forward will be connected. Under Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy’s direction, the company for the first time ever has formed a story group to oversee and coordinate all Star Wars creative development.
“We have an unprecedented slate of new Star Wars entertainment on the horizon,” said Kennedy. “We’re set to bring Star Wars back to the big screen, and continue the adventure through games, books, comics, and new formats that are just emerging. This future of interconnected storytelling will allow fans to explore this galaxy in deeper ways than ever before.”
On the screen, the first new canon to appear will be Star Wars Rebels. In print, the first new books to come from this creative collaboration include novels from Del Rey Books. First to be announced, John Jackson Miller is writing a novel that precedes the events of Star Wars Rebels and offers insight into a key character’s backstory, with input directly from executive producers Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Greg Weisman.
And this is just the beginning of a creatively aligned program of Star Warsstorytelling created by the collaboration of incredibly talented people united by their love of that galaxy far, far away….

The caveat is that it's a game, and the storyline doesn't interconnect well with the rest of the continuum. I wouldn't be surprised if Defenders will appear like Interdictors eventually, but it's not canon until LucasDisney says otherwise. It could mean Commanders or that Smuggler mobile app has story elements that make canon, like Fallout Tactics and the other Fallout games. Saying it's canon when it never appears anywhere else is futile, wishful thinking.

A case could be made that their inclusion in the game is LucasDisney "saying otherwise".
Wookieepedians seem to be happy with treating these games as canon. Hence the Defender having a canon page:
Even if the story isn't, the ship existing in the game could be enough. I tend to go on the canon side of the argument.

I still wouldn't trust everything from wookiepedia or Lexicanum. It literally takes a Twitter message to destroy that claim if someone from Disney/LA said otherwise.
Which would actually lay that to rest if someone with a twitter or direct forum account would kindly ask them... anyone got one?
I've never had twatter. Always thought it was a stupid idea. Sorry.
I do agree that an official statement on this would be nice.
It's one of those things GW occasionally does with their faqs.
YOU, YOU SIR! You need many internet points and a HELLZ YES!!!I would like to see Ailyn Vel make it to the new canon
Well if we have Ailyn, then we need to put the whole Fett gang back in. Mirta was pretty awesome, and the Sintas/Boba arc was good.
I don't care so much about making things canon. There ARE EU things I want to see make it into X-wing. The main one being the Pulsar Skate with pilot and crew cards for Mirax and Booster. I'd like to see the rebels have one NON-PWT freighter-sized vehicle, and the Skate would fit the bill perfectly.
And I'd like to see EVERY Rogue squadron pilot eventually make it in. Not likely, I know. We really don't need 25 MORE t-65 pilots in the game, especially since nobody plays T-65's anymore anyway. It does SLIGHTLY annoy me that Ibtisam is in-game but Nrin Vakil is not. Those two should be mandatory wing-mates ALWAYS! It would tickle my nerd-bone though to fly Plourr Ilo, Nrin Vakil, Herian In'gre, Aril Numb, Dllr Nep, Inyri Forge, Asyr Sei'lar... holy god, I'm a nerd.
But for canonization? All I REALLY want to see from new canon is some Wedge Antilles / Rogue Squadron competence porn. I HOPE they re-use the Rogue Squadron name, but it's not critical. And I hope they use Janson, and Hobbie, since they are movie characters and they have no reason NOT to use them. I know that the battle of Jakku is going to put the nail in the coffin for the Imperial Navy as we knew it, but there will still be warlords to clear out, and Mas Ammeda's faction on Coruscant. I just want to see the push from Jakku to Coruscant shown from a military perspective, with Wedge as the spearhead!
I actually have a good feeling about this. They seem to be deliberately reusing a lot of motifs from Legends to inform the new canon. The Jan Ors/Jyn Erso parallels have been examined to death already. I can't help but notice after Life Debt ..... <SPOILER ALERT!!!!>
that the Wedge/Norra Wexley/Brentin Wexley story arc looks an awful lot like the Wedge/Iella Wessiri/Diric Wessiri triangle. Right down to the husband's capture and release as a sleeper agent.
I do agree that an official statement on this would be nice.
A Lucasfilm representative confirmed to GameSpot that future game releases will also be canonical. This includes DICE's Battlefront and Visceral's new Star Wars game being written by former Naughty Dog creative director Amy Hennig and Uncharted actor Todd Stashwick . Both games are being published by Electronic Arts, which signed a multiyear deal to produce Star Wars video games in 2013.

Since we were already talking about story, I had to ask: is Star Wars: Commander going to be considered canon? After all, Disney and Lucasfilm said back in April that Star Wars games would be considered canonical going forward . The answer? Yes and no. While you'll encounter famous Star Wars icons like Han Solo and travel to places like Tatooine with its Tusken Raiders, those elements are of course canon , but the player-created situations are not.
So "Defenders exist" could count, but what you as player happen to choose to do with them, isn't.
Edited by IronlordI'm not surprised by the latter, but hearing EA claiming sole contract custody is still disgusting. Like Ultramarines.
So there we go. Defenders and HWKS and Decimators oh my! Canon. Thank you for the confirmation, Ironlord.
Surprised no one said it yet...
Revan.
Kyle Katarn, Jan Ors and Kasan Moor.
Chalk up a vote for Soontir Fel (and Phennir, I always liked him for some reason, favourite squint pilot in this game too) as the concept of a Star Wars Red Baron character always fascinated me. And Tycho Celchu as well, since I thought his Alderaan turned rebel was an interesting angle.
So basically all the legends pilots. You can never have too many pilots in this galaxy.
Kyle Katarn. Anyone remember the dogfighting maps from Academy?
Star killer, Juno eclipse
Juno came out in the Raider pack after the LFL/Disney deal, sooooo she's canon...
I don't think inclusion in a FFG game makes anything canon.
"Under Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy’s direction, the company for the first time ever has formed a story group to oversee and coordinate all Star Wars creative development."
It must be approved, yes.
But that does not make it
Canon
.
No she's not. FFG already had a ton of stuff under development that was allowed to still be published. Otherwise Mara Jade and Dash Rendar would also be canon, and heck the CCG had even more EU stuff in it.
My list:
Starkiller - (not exactly the same power level from TFU, but I love Sam Witwer and want him on screen as Galen Marek)
Juno Eclipse
Mara jade
Kyle Katarn
Talon Karrde
and lastly.... Lumpy from the Holiday Special
Desann or at least his species would be cool to get back.
Revan and Kreia in history; maybe Ezra's holocron from Malachor was made by Kreia?
I like Starkiller as a character, but the games made him implausibly powerful. And, as Rebels progresses, I see less and less place for him.
It must be approved, yes.
But that does not make it Canon .
Before Disney, they just made sure it was consistent. After Disney, they have the final say on whether something can be considered part of the Star Wars story.
Reread the article: http://www.starwars.com/news/the-legendary-star-wars-expanded-universe-turns-a-new-page
Edited by s1nUnless, of course, they consider the games "legends".
Which is entirely possible.
Since on every other listing you pull up of "canon", (including request a list from the Holocron), doesn't list any of the FFG Games as Canon.
