Junk Droids and Technological Superiority

By Stompburger, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

So, Junk Droids don't benefit from Technical Support?

If so, that's lame. The only thing you can use that card on is Probes and HKs, and HKs are expensive and probes are scarce. I wonder if we'll get better droids so the Imps can make better use of that card?

It's a droid isn't it? Why not?

I found this in "The Bespin Gambit" Rulebook on pg. 4:

A companion cannot interact and cannot use abilities on Class, Item, or Supply cards.

So that kind of stinks. I was hoping I would find something contradictory to that, oh well.

I've found decent use of the Junk Droid when deploying 2 or 3 Ugnaughts. The 11 threat is a bit of a hurdle, but I really frustrated my rebels the one time I tried it. If they killed my junk droid I'd just make another, and if they ignored it then I got to use it. It's a little having infinite Storm Troopers that you can reinforce several times in an activation. If anyone else tries this, let me know how it works for you.

I think the junk droid is actually pretty great in campaign, even if it can't use the Tech Support card. It does decent damage to white dice, and if you manage to get the bleed off that's pretty great. It's kind of like the Ug has a green die +1 damage attack that he can use around corners and through figures, in addition to his regular attack. The combined damage from those attacks is better than a single eStormtrooper attack, and he costs the same amount. And, if the JD somehow survives, you can get off 2 attacks from it in one round by respawning it.

It is too bad that it can't use class cards though. Maybe it just means that any attachments you put on the ugnaught don't apply to it? It seems strange that it has no interaction at all with any of the global-effect Imperial Class cards.
