Civilian Ship Pack/Mods?

By R22, in X-Wing

With the W10 release of the Quadjumper I found myself thinking that we're starting to see ships that could be used in a civilian capacity, like set pieces. The Corellian Conflict expansion for Armada also introduces structured scenarios. Wouldn't it be neat if there was an expansion, like the Scum one the retooled several ships, that allowed for civilian ships and added some scenarios? It could include a couple new miniatures and have scenarios that were generic and faction specific. We already have:

-Quadjumper

-CR90

-GR75

-YT-1300

-YT-2400

A few more could create quite the scenario pack. Maybe include civilian crew, new civilian pilot cards, cargo and missions, and various local space authorities (Corellia, Coruscant, Kuat, Aldeeran, Tatootine, etc).

scenario pack? nonsense

rig them up for illicit upgrades and mods that imperial protocol would frown at; send them screaming into the main game!

Merchants of the Aturi Cluster?

The planet of Mygeeto is suffering a shortage of medical supplies due to an epidemic. Your misson is to lead your convoy of civilian freighters to Mygeeto and deliver critical supplies while avoiding high tariffs and concluding your sale before your competitors flood the market and the price drops.

Use generics for YTs and Quad-Jump-Ah. Give each ship a free Modification of less than 3 points in addition to normal mod. Make up new pilots or just assume that all civilian pilots are nobodies because anyone who is anything will join a faction.

I have thought of a few ideas you could for a campaign but there is a lack of appropriate ships, ie Civilian freighters. Then I thought is it a big or small ship, just use the bases! Yes that coke can is the newest correllian design in space freighter luxury...

I would like it if they released campaign boxes, but that has been discussed a lot elsewhere.

I don't think Mygeeto is in the Aturi Cluster...but this is still pretty funny. I for one would totally run a blockade against imperials in a lowly armed YT, Gallofree medium transport, or even better yet Blockade Runner...with only a couple escort fighters.

It isn't. Mygeeto is clear on the other side of the galaxy. But I think that 'of the Aturi Cluster' at this stage is more about a game style than an astrographical location.

But, yeah, I think something to do with smugglers would be fun.

All for a factionless/all faction "4th faction." Add the Corporate Sector to the list for ship ideas.

The problem I keep running into is "why fly freighters?". I keep poking at the idea, but the truth is that the merchant/corporate player will always show up as the underdog. If you bring the Falcon, well, you are flying a combat ready ship. A stock YT is not going to be the "fastest ship in the fleet". Freighters and goods hauler want to use as much space for cargo and have as few interruptions as possible. In the death match style that most play, running from one side of the board to the other dodging and popping flares and chaff won't be interesting long. It fits better in the epic game, but even there you opponent will bring a lot of hardware to maul your convoy.

So far, I have come up with the idea that both players loose the points for the destruction of a huge freighter and the attacker looses half the points on a large freighter. The attacker is supposed to be capturing and stealing (or reallocating if you are a freedom fighter) the goods so destroying the ship is not profitable. If a freighter is reduced to 1 hull point, it stops moving (Maybe the new quadjumper could come into play here and drag or repair the frieghter) and is captured since it could not continue. This will really make attackers have to be careful how they deal out damage as well as avoid the basic weapons on stock freighters and escorts for huge ships.

As for available ships, there is the GR-75, both YTs, the VCX-100, and the YV-666 and Jumpmaster are both freighters before modification. The Gozanti is not much bigger than the Falcon, so for the merchant faction it counts as a large ship and can't carry fighters. Is there a civilian version of the Shadowcaster? The Action IV is also a common cargo ship per wookipedia. If FFG releases a Wilde Karde scum epic expansion then that covers that ship. Life has me busy, but I am also trying to start a YU-410, which is Gozanti size and would be a nice addition. That's five large freighters and one huge already available and another huge within reason.

I had really been hoping for the scum Epic release as part of this wave, not for the ship per se, but just so as to know what it would be...if it is to be a pure combat vessel, fair enough, but at least we would know if there might be another 'freighter candidate'.

I've been watching a 3D printed Action IV for a while, but don't want to commit to its expense if FFG choses to release one shortly after...already had that with Sabines TIE and the QuadJumper in this wave (not that I'm complaining about them becoming 'legitimate' ;) )

Really like the idea of the escort missions, although I might be more tempted to go for a mechanic whereby the merchants hull has to be reduced to around 50% and then [2x] ION'd [lasting n rounds] until the escorts are destroyed, or whatever other victory condition is achieved.

... and Jumpmaster are both freighters before modification.

Is it?... I thought it was a purpose built recon ship - outfitted for a pilot to work independently for long periods while exploring the void.

You are right. I guess that's why it looks like something NASA might build someday. Apparently the hyperdrive on the stock version can be unreliable. Not what you need when delivering last minute life day gifts to Kashyyyk.

I've always pleaded for scenario packs.

Whilst not a campaign they would offer a piece of terrain and missions to accompany them. One could piece these together to form a campaign.

Suggestions:
1. Death Star. Turrets. Missions include turret rules and scenarios for making a run, destroying, etc.
2. Ground Assault. AT-AT. Missions include bombing runs on a slow moving turret.
3. Freighter pack. Freighter and containers. If you've played X-Wing / TIE Fighter on PC you know where this is going.

I think missions like these would spice up list creation. For example, if conducting a bombing run, do you sink points into dedicated bombers or beef up their escort? Does you opponent defend the objective, thin the escorts or focus on the bombers?
