New to armada, what should I purchase next?

By BleakSquadron, in Star Wars: Armada

Between myself and a friend we decided to pick up a pair of armada core sets, I took the Imperials and he took the rebels. That puts me at 2 Victory class star destroyers and 12 tie fighter squadrons. What should I requisition from Imperial command next? I don't think the extra squadrons are necessary just yet, bread and butter tie fighters do just fine. I do notice the victories are a bit ponderous and I think a little speed would be a breath of fresh air.

One of everything but if I had a specific order?

1st Imperial star destroyer

2nd Gladiator

3rd Imp squad

4th Raider (Interdictor if you want to wait.)

I'd put a gladiator pretty high on my list possibly above the imp class since you both only have core set stuff atm anyway.

You probably want one more ship, either a glad or an ISD for some variety, and then you will most definitely want some squadrons.

Rule of cool. Figure out how you like to play and go with that.

So the general consensus is another capital ship and then the squadrons? I'm kinda curious as to why. In the games we've had howlrunner backed ties felt unstopable (with squadron commands of course). After giving it a look the gladiator seems like a real contender for some of the speed I'm looking for, but it's also hard to say no to the iconic ISD...

The new squadrons bring alot more variety to your fleet. Such as Major Rhymer and Darth Vader.

Yeah, mostly the named characters for imperial squadrons have some interesting abilities. And if you think Howlrunner and TIEs are good, try Howlrunner and Interceptors. Extra die for the regular attack as well as the counter attack.

I knew tie interceptors were in the kit, and as a x-wing imperial addict I absolutely love them.. I'm just trying to talk myself out of purchasing 5 plus kits to swarm them with impunity. Lol

Think you would be best off getting the Gladiator next. For the moment it is the best offensive ship in the imperial fleet. ISD and a fighter pack would probably be your next purchases after that.

Look at it this way. The core set is a great intro but lacks diversity now present in the game. The logical order is to start with the first introductions to the game that started it all, Wave I. That said a Gladiator for the EMpire and an Assault Frigate MkII for the Rebels will really start to show you options, not to mention new upgrades. From there the 2 core fighter sets are great. As for Wave II it helped blow up the fighter game and also added the first large scale ships, so it was an escalation of firepower with the addition of the larger ships. Wave 3 and 4 (Interdictor, Gozanti, Liberty, Medium Transport) are the first waves that start to change the usual slug fest into a little more strategic minded playing.

If you want to keep your game really funny with your friend (who's playing the Rebels) try to buy stuff that can be equivalent for both side at the same moment.

For example : 1 ISD vs. 1 MC80, 1 Empire figthers pack vs. 1 Rebel figthers pack, etc...

Try to keep your game balance. Don't forget that, if you buy alot of stuff and not your friend and your friend think that he loose many times because you can bring down a better selection than him. There is some chance that you will have to find someone else to play with. It's rigth that better selection don't necesserly will give you the victory, but it can help to define the kind of play and move that you want to bring to the game.

For me it's simple, I'm the owner of two core set, and two of everything else and even more (3 Glad, 3 Raider, 3 Vic, 4 RC-90, etc..). This way there is no question of unbalance fleet.

Take your time and enjoy the game. Try to keep it balance for your fleet between you and your friend and everithing should be great :)

1. 1 Gladiator

2. 1 ISD

3. 1 Imperial fighter pack

4. 1 Rogues and Villians

In that order.

After that... 6 Raiders, 2 more ISDs, 4 more Glads, 3 more VSDs, 1 more Imp Fighters, 2 more rogues, 5 of each rebel expansion.

BUT WAIT theres more

Corellian Conflict. 2 of All of wave4. 1 of all of wave5.

IF YOU CALL IN THE NEXT HOUR

also get into xwing. with 10 waves.

Beat ya to the punch on x-wing. Getting into armada as an additional branch.

Rule of cool. Figure out how you like to play and go with that.

This

It's a game. They are toys!

Buy the stuff you think looks cool and you think you will have the maximum fun with! If you really really like it and decide to hit some tournaments or whatever you will be buying almost everything anyway but until that time (if you even get there) go with whatever gives you tingles.
