Sabine TIE & existing Imperial TIE models

By gizzergis, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Apologies, this is a noob question:

With Sabines' TIE fighter, does is mean that I can use all four Rebel TIE pilots by using the Sabine TIE, then use three Imperial TIE models to be the other Rebel TIE pilots (ignoring points values, I'm just wanting to clarify how models can be used)? Or do I have to buy four Sabine TIEs to allow all four Rebel TIE pilots on the playing board?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not quite sure about this honestly... although you definitely wouldn't be able to run 4 just by buying one Sabine TIE since the ship tokens do absolutely need to be correct and they're double sided so you'll only be able to run 2 individual Sabine TIEs with one pack.

You can use paint jobs from the wrong faction as long as you have the right pilot cards and base inserts. This is no different than running 4 TLT thugs and having two of them painted like Gold Squadron pilots because you bought two Most Wanteds and two Y-Wing packs.

Although MikeNYHC is right that you'll need two rebel TIE packs to run all four, since the base inserts are double sided.

Yes you can use imp tie miniatures with Rebel tie pilots (as you fly scum z-95 using z-95 Rebel miniatures). But you will need 2 Sabine expansions to fly the four unique tie rebel pilots as the Sabine tie expansion comes with 2 ship bases. With 1 expansion, you can fly 2 tie only.

paintjob itself means nothing. Least so far it doesnt, since even the tie and tie/fo have a different model (though its so subtle its laughable).

Long as you have the tokens, cards, and a TIE Fighter, its legal. I would find it odd that they'd make a unique model (hey its got slightly wider chassis because of crew guys!) both because wasted time and Sabine didnt make the tie, she stole it and repainted it.

Of course the new falcon and Poe's black wing are different models, ever so slightly, and they count as the same ships as the previous releases. I guess as long as FFG is altering the deal it's ok.

Is Poe's X-Wing really a different model? I guess they said something about a slightly different Astromech shape but the current FAQ does allow minor physical changes to models where it didn't to begin with.

Of course with all of those TIE Fighter variations out there where does the line get drawn?

Poe's new x-wing T-70 is the same thing as Sabine new Tie Fighter. The Sabine one is just a new paint job, they are the same plastic model. The Sabine one is more like the new paint job on the Tie Defender.

The HotR T-70 has a slight molding change, the astromech is a bb-8 instead of a nondiscript bump. So technically it's not just a repaint. At least that is what was advertised.

That's what I was thinking I read. This is unlike the alternate paint the Rebel Transport's X-Wing has or the more drastic alternative paints in many other sets.

I know the FFG had the rule about requiring models to be unmodified structurally but when that went away I'm really wondering about all of these TIE Fighters. I mean we all you know could paint every single one of your TIE Fighter variations in some alternative patter but technically your original TF isn't the same as your TIE/sf even if the difference is less than some people's modifications to other ships. Of course Dials could be an issue but mixing your TIE models is getting too easy to do.
