I'm curious to hear your thoughts on how many new sets we'll see each year. Magic has 4, but I'm not sure about other games. I'm kinda hoping for no more than two sets per year. I also wonder if future sets will have their own starter sets.
Rate of new sets: speculation
I think 3 a year sounds about right.
I expect 4 like the other games BUT this is new territory so we will have to wait and see.
I hope each expansion has its own starter sets. I find these are the easiest type of product to introduce new players to an existing game with.
3 / year max with a starter for each expansion is definitely my vote as well. With some games going strong despite longer intervals between releases (Star Wars Armada), I hope FFG staggers this game a bit as well. Game Systems seem to last quite a bit longer before being discontinued when the material is stretched just a smidge and players have time to save some money and master rules before the next round. In addition, I've noticed how overwhelmed players got with constant Dice Masters releases at my local FLGS. No one really plays anymore. There is a lot of potential with Star Wars : Destiny. I hope they let us take our time and enjoy the ride.
Just my two pence.
I'm hoping for only 2 a year. I need time to play and if I buy 2 starters and a box of boosters that's close $200 Canadian. That's more then what I spend on LCG in a whole year. So yeah just 2 expansions a year to keep the investment realistic.

That's how I feel. Plus, this would be a side-game for me, with X-Wing as my main game. I feel it would be too much to keep up with more than 2 expansions per year, but if this is someone's primary game, I understand that 2 may not be enough.
Three would be a healthy Medium I feel.
3 a year would be great. This game is on a much smaller scale than Magic, which does 4 main releases, plus supplemental products. 30 card decks, limit of 2 of each card, doesn't sound like it requires nearly as much of an investment.
As rich as the Star Wars universe is, it is limited. If they try and push out 4 sets a year, it won't be long before we've got "Rey", "Rey with Mask and Goggles" "Rey with just Mask, Goggles up on her Forehead", and "Rey, Arm Outstretched, Holding The Lightsaber Waiting for Luke. Why Won't you Take the Lightsaber, Luke? Come on, Luke. Just take it. Her arm is getting tired. Jerk."

Very true, but if they do more a year then hopefully they can tap canon for things to add instead of Luke #22
This set has something like 170 cards. If sets moving foward are to be that size then we won't see more then two sets in a year. It would just be too much content to put out something like 500 cards in a year. Even AGOT which is designing from 1st Edition experience is only going to exceed 400 in its first year (Core included).
If the bump it down to 100-120 cards per set then 3 sets in a year-ish period isn't out of the question. But really I feel the question is more about how much content FFG is comfortable or capable of creating in a years span. SW products also have the added hurdle of LFL approval.
Edited by ScottieATFMy speculation would be we see a smaller set with 80-110 cards (booster only) in march/april, that set might be delayed depending on if the base set is in very high demand and needs a lot of reprints.
Then july/august will see a big set tied into rouge one with around 170 cards with starters followed by a small set in november. Then another big expansion with starters in march that ties into episode 8 stuff. This might be depend a little on when they hget access to the material from Lucas Films so it might be that july August is the earliest they can produce tie-in stuff after a new movie is released.
After these initial releases the release rhythm will depend on how well this game does. If it sells weel I would expect 1 big expension with starters and 2-3 booster onyl smaller expansions a year. If it soesn´t sell well we probably only see 2 big sets a year.
Depends upon how much it ends up costing to buy a full playset. If it works reasonable then its also reasonable to be able to afford more sets per year. I know you dont need to buy them all however many players will want a full playset as a collection.
I suspect the mass market aspect may lead them to stay on shelves for longer, so maybe 2 per year would be my vote. Still not sure yet if I am buying in, depends upon anticipated playset cost.
there are 17 Legendary (Purple) and 43 Rares (Green) in the set. Legendaries are a confirmed 1:6 ratio to Rares, so that's 6 per Box, so about 6 boxes to have the quantity needed to trade 1:1 Legendaries to complete a full set of them. If you haven't gotten 2x43 rares in 180 other packs then you got **** unlucky.
Me I would probably top out at 2 boxes and trade for the specific Legendaries I wanted. Though if they aren't too expensive buy some on the secondary market.

Ya, whoops. Not sure what I was thinking, but the numbers are close enough to stand up.

Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight (seen)
Luke Skywalker, A New Hope
Luke Skywalker, Heir of the Jedi
Luke Skywalker, Yoda's Disciple
Luke Skywalker, Ace Pilot
Luke Skywalker, Heroic Destiny
Luke Skywalker, Hero of Endor
Luke Skywalker, Young Rebel
Luke Skywalker, Anakin's Offspring
Luke Skywalker, Just A Myth
Luke Skywalker, Returned Master
Luke Skywalker, Force Ghost (speculative, support card)
So there's Luke for the next three years, and that's assuming we see him in every set, which isn't necessarily the case as we're missing some big names in this initial set. It just takes a bit of creativity and wordsmithing, and also looking at the same character from different angles, as ideally each card should represent a distinct facet of who they are.
