Continuing Heroes into Other Campaigns

By Cube3d, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Has anyone thought of some ways players could bring their heroes from one finished campaign into another? In this way, the player becomes more attached to the character and can develop the character more.

I haven't yet finished playing the core campaign, but is it possible for a hero to obtain ALL their class cards during the core campaign? If not, then allowing the player to continue the character (with all obtained rewards, XP, equipment, purchased cards, etc.) into another campaign (ie, Return to Hoth) could be interesting, in my opinion.

But what happens in the 2nd (or 3rd) campaign when the hero obtains all their class cards? One idea I just toyed with is allowing the hero to purchase other hero class cards for cost+1XP. In this way, the hero could have something akin to two or more specialties - like a warrior magic user, or cleric thief.

Thoughts?

If the heroes want to keep playing until they have all their upgrades, just play side missions. They're made to fit into any spot in the campaign, so just set the threat level to 6 and play some side missions. I don't think it will work to continue into another campaign, because you will max out your XP early in the campaign, but it could work.

Letting people buy class cards from other classes will probably not work. A lot of the cards interact with specific abilities on the character sheets. The ones that don't might work though.

You'll have balance issues as the Rebels will be able to do everything and hit like freight trains. Where they end up after a campaign is supposed to be an end point. If you want to extend campaigns then halve the rewards on side missions and double the number of them.

If you want to have even longer campaigns than that because your players are "attached" to the characters, I'd suggest maybe you play Edge of the Empire or other RPGs. EotE lends itself very well to using IA as the combat system.

If you wanted to do it, I'd go for 'video game rules'. No XP, no equipment, both sides can keep any ally/villains and rewards they earn (and take their missions out of the pool). Modify the endings for campaigns to accommodate this. I'd think it would give a sense of progression/character ownership without *completely* unbalancing the game.

How, exactly, is IA utilized as the combat system in EotE?

I've been considering getting into the Star Wars RP, and just bought IA, so this interests me.

You could just double the xp cost of all class cards in the second campaign. Quadruple it in the third (if you wanted to). Imperials need to bed getting crazy amounts of that though
