Kylo Ren keeps people honest, ironically.

So one little side effect of Kylo Ren is that it will all but completely eliminated people trying to cheat in tournaments with stacked damage decks. Can't be messing with the cards in there if there is a chance your opponent will be searching through your deck at some point.

And oddly enough, that's pretty thematic for Kylo, too. Mind reading powers and all.

Good TO's should check or arrange to have all damage decks checked regardless, Kylo doesn't change that.

Not sure everyone plays tournaments.

Then this thread isn't for those people, is it?

I generally shuffle my deck prior to every game so my opponent can see. That normally spurs them to do the same.

Never asked my opponent to do the same, and only once have I been suspicious of an opponent whos decimator took a total of 5 non-problematic crits(no double damages, major hull breaches etc.).

So, yeah, suppose this'll keep a minority of people in check.

the irony is Kylo tries to show your opponent the dark side and instead finds someone with a rigged deck, meaning you have instead been shown the dark side of gaming :(

1. I openly shuffle my deck before each match.

2. I offer my opponent the opportunity to cut the deck

3. If its an opponent I don't know I ask them to also do steps 1 and 2 above

4. If its someone I know and trust I will just ask for the cut.

Also, and if I remember my rules correctly, players can count damage deck cards before the match. There should be 33 of them.....

Not all cheaters play in tournaments either.

im usually shuffling my deck while my opponent places ships. Dont typically stop until we start revealing dials.

Isn't the norm to shuffle and then place your deck on the mat for the other player to cut?

The isuue I've heard about is people stacking their deck- taking out all/most of the nasty crits and replacing them with mild/harmless crits. It doesn't happen very often, but every now and then you hear of someone getting caught doing it at a tournament.

As a TO I encourage all my players to check their opponents decks before the first round, but even with that there is no way you can enforce it or personally inspect every deck every round.

If I was a TO, when announcing that the tournament was about to begin, I would include "All players please hand your damage cards to your opponent for a 33-card count and deck shuffle, thank you."

If I was TO, I would buy pizza for everyone (w/ gluten-free & vegan options). :D

Tournaments you have no choice who you play. If you are playing a cheater casually, why the heck are you playing them?

I don't see it as keeping people honest.

I have no problem asking for my opponent's DD to give it a quick look through before shuffling it and handing it back. It's all in the rules and as long as you aren't too agressive with your shuffling shouldn't cause anyone any problems.

Just use determination. His ability is pointless anyways.

So Kylo is going to be super competitive right now too? Just saying it could show up if he does start seeing play. Things do change right?

idk, I read it as saying "his ability is pointless anyways"

but it is the internet, so eh. Tone is hard :(

in the case of kylo, there's really nowhere to put determination on outside a decimator. It's really REALLY crappy given the ratio of pilot cards to ship cards and the likelihood that you die without having a faceup card ever touch your hull

Sorry. I am saying if he targets a ship with his ability and it has determination on it. It Makes his ability pointless. As he can only pull pilot damage cards.

Sure ships die without taking a crit sometimes if not most times. But if you are bringing him. You are going to try to mitigate those crits with using Palp or other means.

Of course I am not sure how I feel about these new style cards anyways. But we shall see when they are available.

I really dont care too much about his ability. With 12hp 4 red dice and the ability to take expose and the emperor... he's going to be nasty. In fact 3 of these ships on table is.... disturbing.

3 of these on the table * should also be easily outmaneuvered. If not, then either your opponent is VERY good or something went terribly terribly wrong.

*Pending a reveal of the dial, of course, but it seems likely to be a dial roughly equivalent to the YV-666, probably a little worse.
