Ok after reading the achillus assault I noticed a description of a tyranid rebirth ship that seems like it'd make a good target for a deathwatch raid. In fact it might be mire than a deathwatch rakd, I could see this as a rare but vital "Joint op" With the adeptus mechanicus. The AM sends some adeptus bioligus tech priests and a retinue of servitors to assist\defend them.

The mission is to gather data about how the rebirth ship recieves 'real time' telepathic feed from tyranid 'individuals" and imprints this data onto a physical clone of the organism, effectively resurrecting it when it dies. (We know it should be called a ressurection ship but battlestar galactica copped that term.)

If possible the mission is meant to find and secure a 'blank' tyranid organism waiting to have the mind of a deceased tyranid individual loaded into it to effect ressurection. Such could provide vital insight into how the tyranid hive mind operates.

So, ideas for this? First off Iassume that hellfire ammo is free and basically all you can carry for this mission. The admech will be arrogant and disdainful to most dw members but tolerable towards techmarines.

I know there's a wargear tthat lets players avoid detection by tyranids for a time. That gets issued. Any other ideas?

Aren't nids mostly born live from Norn Queens? Unless of course this is a specialist ship different from the usual...

Nid ships are generally organic life forms, living beings so of course you'll have to think of it as if you were invading a body and the hazards you'd face. First off there is the potential of the body's own natural defences. In a human, white blood cells. In a tyranid probably similar creatures or specialist tyranid strains designed to move quickly through the body internal organs. Second, it's unlikely there will be any oxygen within that environment as given it's intended to survive in the vacuum of space and nids tend to resist most things, there is no need for this. So all suits will need to be airtight. In fact it's entirely possible that they may be travelling in fluid for the duration of their journey which may have toxic and/or corrosive qualities. Third, since it is organic, the body is pretty good at knowing when its under attack and where from so it is entirely likely that if they get into a fire fight that it will only be a matter of time before everything comes down on them.

So in terms of gear, rebreathing and full sealed armour is a must have along with numerous repair kits (so no scout armour). Biological weapons such as toxic gas grenades (specially designed to bypass tyranid toxic resistance) would be beneficial. Medical supplies will be required to negate any toxic weapons, this is a bio ship so all manner of virus or infection can be lurking aboard to take advantage in an open wound. Lastly you'll need an exit strategy. Craft that boarded might not be there especially once you've woken up the beast so you'll need some way out such as teleport homing beacons.

Yes it is a specialist ship. The hive seems to be creating new strains of some creatures. Some if them seem to be almost ibdividusls abd in fact there are special individual tyranid characters. The box on the rebirth ship implied it existed to support these 'individuals' and record their minds in real time. When one died it fired a spore at the planet and the 'dead' individual was soon seen again. It is a small hive ship abd seems to avoid battle.

I'd planned to have them teleport out already.

BTW, if we do it "realistically' the mission would be impossible, the ship would be full of live tissue with no wasted open space, the team couldn;t move fast or at all, the ship could seal off areas,flood them with acid, etc. Realistically there'd be no mission at all unless I have them go onto the outer hull and try to force their way in theu the spore launch tubes, whi8ch now might be a good idea. You have to make the mission possible even if that makes it unrealistic.

Why? Since when have the Imperium had sane tactical reasons to go on half of these missions?

Missions to their death are part of the core for marines. You are being too nice to them.
