It's Official, Kylo Ren goes through shields

By ficklegreendice, in X-Wing

why wouldn't that be their intention? they made it pretty dang clear

if it had to hit hull, they would've had it replacing the face-up card you normally deal to the enemy

i.e

"when you are dealt a face-up damage card as a result of suffering a critical damage during an attack"

which is a mouthful, but it's also completely unambiguous

Edited by ficklegreendice

Pretty convenient that you scratched out just enough to avoid "if it does not have any shields to lose".

Am I missing something here? It specifically says shields come into play.

what does?

Dark Side Showing?

it just says "when you suffering a critical damage during an attack"

and the rules say when you suffer a critical damage, you either lose a shield or get dealt a face-up damage card

the shield doesn't make the damage you took any less critical

This is the thing that people seem to forget every time with shields. Shields stop hits regardless of magnitude, as the OP has pointed out, all you need is that Crit damage not to be evaded and you proc that card. PGS is gonna love this, Imperials just got a bit stronger versus Rebel Regen lists. Also Ren is an action so you can action that sucker as many times as you want in a game. Well as long as it already isnt in play.

True. I don't know. Just seems like a stretch and a lot of rules navigating to figure out that Kylo hits around shields. I think if a new person picked up the game and read Kylo's ability it would be pretty 50/50 whether they would come to the same result as you. For that reason, I foresee FFG errataing this card, even if it is just to confirm your result.

Actually, he can perform the action while the condition is in play, doing so simply changes it's target (but not the damage card that is already on it).

there are already ways to completely ignore shields and give cards. Quite a few actually.

Just because you dont think thats what they intended doesnt mean it needs to be errata'd. This is most likely why hes 3pts - if he was 1pt, ok i could understand its probably a misconception and he doesnt go through shields. 3pts? especially one that takes an action and is yet ANOTHER imperial expensive crew? Pretty sure that was intended.

it's not really "a lot of rules navigating"

the big problem is we have common parlance that is simply incorrect

I know I thought "suffer critical damage" meant "a face-up damage card", but this has never been true

Darth-vader.png

and really, that's the only reason to think Kylo's condition cares about shield tokens

the real definition of suffering critical damage is actually really simple, once you get down to it. All damage either plinks a shield or, if there are no shields left, deals a damage card. If that damage is defined as critical, the damage card is dealt face-up

Kyle will show us the Dark Side.

definitely terrible against aces. if you evade the crit, nothing happens.

However its great against things like Bwings with high shields. Theoretically kill a Bwing in 3 rounds with 3 singular shots, assuming he doesnt dodge 1.

no one uses B-wings :P

Hey, I played against "No One" a few days ago!

The Upsilon has a 4 dice primary and a slot for FCS. Evading the crit may not always be easy. Plus, anyone's critical damage will work, not just the ship carrying Ren.

you gotta Be careful with No One, he's a Bit of a Bastard

i use bwings alot. Keyan with the right gear is brutal, and Ten Numb can be a thorn and a half with that auto-crit....though i dont have mangler cannons yet so i tend to not use him as much.

Favorite bwing build is my Bumper-Wing strat. Keyan with Intimidation, Adv Proton Torps, EM, Adv Sensors, Bwing mod, and Zeb. Cant benefit from his own intimidation but it helps other ships so why not: anyway he Adv Sensors for TL, red move into the bump/block for stress, Zeb says "we no touching" so i blast them with a highly accurate Adv Proton right in the face lol.

Dude!

Kylo Ren pilot (A Score to Settle, ) [34]

3x Tempest Sq. Pilot (TIE/x1, Adv. Targeting Computer) [22 x 3]

100 points

OK, not super competitive, but I just wanted to throw that out there. Gets those crits flying, for sure. Looks like Kylo has the Coordinate action, right? That could help get the target locks set up without risking the TIE advanced, who would focus every round. Maybe it would encourage your opponent to attack Kylo, thus enabling the "I'll Show You the Dark Side" condition. Can't wait for that ship! It's the most excited I've been since the Imperial Veterans hype!

i'd have the opposite mentality depending on the shuttle's dial.

If it turns like a fat turkey like the lambda, i'll just dodge it and deal with the main threat.

If it actually can turn and keep its guns on point, i'll probably have to deal with it first. Low agility so it can be alphastriked down faily easy, but 6 shields means its going to take awhile before any crits start doing some nasty things.

oh hey

since everyone was so **** disapointed with the Tie/SF

There's no reason to issue an errata for the card. The language on the card works with the rules. FFG may very well create a FAQ entry to give players who aren't clear on how the rules should apply an easy way to find the answer.

Just saying, but fully loaded Chiraneau with lone wolf, eu, palp, and kylo is 63 points, that's soontir fel with a 2 point bid... That crit machine from ol chirpy...

I'll Show You the Dark Side = ISYtDS = ISY = Issy Fit.

Forum Name done.

yeah but I'll is I will which is IWSYTDS

which sounds like a horrible venereal disease

STDS = "Show the dark side" for short for IWSYTDS.

Why Keyan? Isn't Nera better?

So vader either X1 ATCs or uses his crew ability, and Kylo is like "Grandfather, I'll finish what you started" and triggers condition?

Neat.

Lush. Now can we fit a vader in there too? (Adaptability/EU/ATC ofc.) Kylo would have to travel in economy (generic Upsi with few upgrades) but that's a great looking list right there.

Something like

'Backdraft': VI, FCS

Darth Vader: Adaptability, EU, X1, ATC

Lieutenant Dormitz: FCS, Crackshot, Kylo Ren

IF Dormitz is 30pts and has EPT that is...

So Determination will become a thing on Corran and Poe as it neuters Kylo?

Does Determination see a lot of competetive play by now? That might change as soon as Kylo enters the arena I guess....

Sorry for double-posting.

Is it true, that Kylo can use his Action every round, so he might be dealing Damage Cards with the "Pilot" trait to different enemy ships throughout the whole match?

How about Chewbacca? He is simply immune against Kylo, isn't he?

I don't really understand why they give Kylo such an impressive action.

Kylo seems to be far away from being a mighty Sith. He was beaten up badly by a girl in Episode 7, who didn't know anything about her own force sensitivity for the most time of her life.
