Using Unkar Plutt to reposition after high PS ships.

By WWHSD, in X-Wing

Is it worth taking a -1 agility penalty to be able to reposition a low PS ship at the end of the activation phase? If you were flying Unkar Plutt with something like a Cartel Marauder you'd be able to move the Marauder, take an action, bump ot with Plutt and then at the end of the activation phase make it boost or barrel-roll.

I'm not sure if it will be worth taking the hit to agility but suspect that in some situations it might be.

small problem

the opposing player (opposing the ship that gets the token, I'd imagine) gets to do the move

which, now that I think about it, makes me wonder why Ketsu can target non-enemy ships with her ability

if you manage to fangle positions in such a way where ANY legal boost/roll is beneficial (the effect is not optional, note)...maybe?

EDIT: checked the FAQ

there's no way to force the opponent to roll/boost you into a better position; it's just a drawback for an incredible ability.

TRACTOR BEAM REFERENCE CARD
This card should read:
A ship with at least one tractor beam token assigned to it follows special rules
during these phases:
Combat Phase: The agility value of that ship is reduced by 1 for each
tractor beam token, to a minimum of 0.
End Phase: Remove all tractor beam tokens from the ship.
The first time a small ship receives a tractor beam token each round, the
opposing player may choose one of the following effects:
Perform a barrel roll using the [
1] maneuver template. The opposing
player selects the direction of the barrel roll and the final position of the
ship.
Perform a boost using the [
1] maneuver template.
This is not an action or a maneuver, and can cause the ship to overlap
obstacles (but not other ships). The ship suffers the effect of any obstacle it

That's a **** shame, that would have been a cool trick. It's kind of odd that a player that doesn't have a ship involved with the tractoring gets to decide on the movement.

I guess that brings up a question about order of resolution. Does the tractor beam token movement count as an effect of the player whose ship has the token or the player that is picking the forced movement? It will be kind of important when Unkar causes a huge traffic jam.

A more viable tactic may be to use Sabine to Sabine after higher PS Sabines...

Methinks the tractor beam reference card might have slightly updated text in wave 10...

Wouldn't be the first time they changed a reference card to fix a mechanic (cloaking).

Tractor beam should always have been "the player who placed the tractor beam token" instead of "the opposing player" anyway.

I was always irked that the TB ref card didn't say that the player giving the token decided the movement. So many missed opportunities.

I also think it is wrong. The ship from which the tractor beam is coming from should decide about the maneuver

I am not sure that there will be any change. The result of hitting a fast moving object with a TB cannon is unpredictable, the pilot loses control while fighting the beam, and makes the worst possible move. Just like making a red move while stressed.

Like that scenario too
