as is there are so many ships and fighters to pick from you can't field a modern or WWII style fleet task force without spending 800 points. ![]()
I am starting to see the end of buying...
Im hoping FFG will consider re-releasing all the core ships with uniform scale (1/7000?) and screen accurate paint jobs. Also, i love the campaign picture of expansion: i dont really want to field anything outside of OT ships, but that kind of expansion would keep the dollars flowing from me.
They wont. If they release the core in scale they would have to rerelease everything in scale. Or are you going to tell me that you would be fine with just the core set looking out of place around the rest of your ships?
Core ships meaning OT ships
I genuinely wouldn't mind a good 'ole mold update. While I didn't like what i felt to be GW's superfluous rules updates, I appreciated the fa)ct that they revisited the basic models several times over to improve them rather than building a new faction/creating new units I didn't want. I also appreciated that it was ok to mix old and new models (I suppose that's still the case?)
Who wants to pay $20 for a tiny CR90? or a GR75 the size of a gnat?
At this point you would be better set to go to Shapeways. While it would indeed look amazing on a table it is just not likely to ever occur.
Wait people retired from the Armada competitive scene after just the first Store Championship?
Why would they do that? I dont get it. . . the game is so young that bowing out like that is like having a puppy and giving them away before they become an adult dog. . .

I think it might have something to do with getting crushed in a competitive setting more than how mature the game is. So maturity of player and not maturity of the actual game.

So you got crushed? Big whoop. I did not when my first tournament until we started playing at 400 points.
You have to give things a try and work things out. If you quit because you got crushed you are just running away from the issues and not trying to grow and become better.

It's like that in every game unfortunately, so it's definitely a player-thing and not the game. People get hurt :<
Back to the OP... NOT A CHANCE OF STOPPING!...
(Ok, maybe if the wife freaks about how much I'm spending on little plastic ships, I may slow down, but this is the same wonderful woman who let me drop a grand on 3D printed ships last month.)
I want them all, and multiples of the cool ones. I want to be able to run any Star Wars Armada scenario that pops into my demented mind. Give me more of my plastic crack!
Some people are simply not competitive players.
They want to push spaceships around a table and equip cluster bombs because they seem cool and not have to worry that ECM is probably better in that slot.
Nobody should tell them any different because the more people that play the game = the more $ FFG makes from it and the more likely us competitive nerds will get more prack!
This reminds me of WoW. I'm always going to approach things competitively, but my wife not so much. I remember I sank a lot of time into that game and my wife started playing it so we could do it together. I went on to do "End Game Content" where you had to get deep into theorycrafting and into long forum debates as to (literally) what specific thing was best in slot for a particuallar character type in a particular build in a particular raid. My wife wanted to mine things and do a quest now and then.
A month into her play a friend of mine looked at her toon and pointed out all the "incorrect" gear she had for it, she got sad and quit.
Point is, don't presume to tell someone how to best enjoy something. Just because it doesn't match your conception of the ideal, doesn't mean it isn't their ideal. For you playing competitively and getting better through loss and error is fun and challenging, for someone else it might be all it takes to get them to ebay their Armada collection and never play again.

You pulled that right out of my head except for the wife part. We have a tacit agreement that she doesn't ask how much and I don't tell her.

I tell my wife, but I also tell her that I'm recycling "hobby funds" from selling off my WHFB, Warmachine and 40K armies for enough cash.
For example, right now I'm in the process of selling off my Cygnar. Even half of that will fuel the next couple of waves ![]()
... I really can't complain.
My Wife asks... And when the number seems small, she asks me if I need to pick up more commissions (and thus, have more time where she is supervising the Toddler) to make more money to buy more stuff.... >.>
So that I can't complain about.
Well if I'm lucky I'll be able to offload my old Cygnar army for about $200 CA and get myself a Liberty and some Rebel Transports. I'm lukewarm about Wave 5 although I'm not a 100% sure why? Maybe it's because wave 3/4 isn't out yet so I feel weird seeing another announcement. Maybe it's because I think the Pelton and Arquitens are both ugly. Maybe it's because I have a personal bias against E-Wings and TIE Defenders...or maybe I'm just a curmudgeon ![]()
But honestly as long as more options keep coming out for me to make fleets, I'll probably keep buying in small increments.
