I am starting to see the end of buying...

By Lord Ashram, in Star Wars: Armada

I am not a competitive player, and have always been a toy soldier collector who hits a "finished" point.

With X-wing, I stopped buying after the Defender wave.

I think I see that point ahead for Armada. I think after I get wave three, four, and some of five (I think I will skip that imperial ship) my armada collection will be done! Enough to play a lot of different games, mostly all recognizable...

Anyone else feel the same way, even with all the excitement of new stuff ahead?

No but I may stop buying everything

I will have transcended the need for more mortal sustenence

the end of buying is nigh!

If only I had your strength and willpower. I see all of these and think I need two of each.

I am at the point of just 1 of everything.

Do you play imperials? If so, I'm pretty sure you're going to want that ship.

It looks like it has a unique place in three imperial lineup.

I don't know, I mean I really only get in a game every other month or so which sucks but every time I play the desire to buy more ships strikes. So I do not have the current desire to buy much more but next time I play I will probably buy more.

After Wave 5 the game seems complete but I am sure they will come up with something else to make me buy more.

The only 3 things still on my wish list currently are:

Hammerhead cruiser (Rebel)

Quasar Carrier (Imperial and Rebel)

Venator class Star Destroyer (Imperial)

But I am sure as more seasons of Rebels and more movies come out there will be more ships that I want to play with. Even if I never get in another game they make amazing display pieces.

Errr...no.

Quantity has a quality all of its own.........

I was big into X-wing until it felt like we were getting bombarded by releases. Now it kind of feels the same with Armada, which is weird because Waves 3,4, and 5 are all on par with how many ships were in wave two. I don't know why this feels like it's so much more, but it weighs on you. Weird, right?

Maybe it's mainly because right now I'm kind of broke and don't have as much time to play as I used to. The same thing happened when I played X-wing and I missed a wave and a themed pack, and when I came back to play it felt like a different game (not in a good way).

Armada could be going that route for me as well. Sucks, because when I do get to play I really enjoy it

I feel the same in that we are getting bombarded with releases. While I am super excited about Waves 3-5, I wish we could get one out before they announce the next (I'll count 3-4 as one wave here). X-wing is IMO starting throw as many ships out as fast as possible, and is having to dig down to the bottom of the barrel to find them(The Quadjumper? really?). I'm starting to wonder if FFG has "jumped the shark" with X-wing. I don't feel armada will run out of good content soon, but give it time between the release of one wave and the announcement of the next please.

I'm definitely a collector but I don't have some chokepoint for purchases beyond a self imposed one per wave. For me, I only want 1 Interdictor and maybe 2 Imperial Assault Carrier, but I'm thinking about 3-4 Imperial Light Cruisers for Wave 5 and probably one more Squadron pack for both Rebel and Imperials to build up some alternate model colour schemes thanks to the CCCP. The way I look at it, If FFG uses more EU stuff like X-wing did in its earlier days, then so be it: I've got fond memories of some of that stuff through games. If they come out with more Rebels content, then fine by me: they've innovated a few designs and reiterated some interesting ones from that Clone Wars show that I couldn't get through. And if we see ships and squadrons modeled off episode VIII or 'Star Wars Stories' A la Rogue One, then that's great too: I'm no purist.

So long as there are interesting ships, so long as I have ideas to build campaigns, and as long as the game itself is still supported, then I'll keep buying in proportionate to the amount that I like the new content. I can still name at least half a dozen ships and flotillas that I'm eager to see make their way into the game, including something missing from Return of the Jedi. It's not some sense of loyalty to FFG, or an ephemeral duty to be some 'Armada champion', but because I'm enjoying myself.

There will always be divergent opinions, it's to be expected and tremendously chic if it just so happens to go against the grain.

Post Scriptum: long story short, not yet.

I don't have any of wave 3 onwards and I don't even have all of waves 1 and 2! I'm not really that interested in the wave 5 ships (although the fighter packs look awesome! For Armada my big interest at the moment is Corellian Conflict. Unfortunately that means I'll probably need another set of wave 1 fighter packs and more ships. :( Currently what little money I can put into gaming will likely go here. Since I am near finished getting what I can justify getting for Tide of Iron (great game I highly recommend it). And I am angry at FFG for dropping time periods in IA.

I currently own the AFMk II, the Gladiator, the Neb b expansion, the Core set, the fighter packs and the large ships from wave 2. If anyone has anything they are willing to donate it will be gladly appreciated. You can give me a PM. I have proof of purchases for trade!!! ;)

I'm more into aesthetics than rules, so even if they release a ship I am not that interested in playing I will always get one as long as they look pretty. Hell, I still have one of each in X-Wing and I haven't played since the K-Wing dropped.

I probably have a later limit than you, but if Armada goes as X-wing has, I will certainly reach a limit. I am a very aesthetic person, but oddly so. There are a number of x-wing ships I don't care to purchase, but others I will purchase in spite of them never having been on screen. Just like/don't like the looks of some. The new xwing stuff is ugh to me.

Not seeing it here! The game is healthy and I like it. The more expension we'll have, the more variety we'll see in builds.

That's also why I kept myself from buying more than one of every medium and large base (except for the Victory because he's in the Core Set), and not more than 2 small bases and squadrons packs. Can't tell you how many time I wanted to buy a second Assault Fregate or Star Destroyer, but I'm now glad I resisted the urge. As for Wave 5, I see myself buying 1 of each, maybe a second Arquiten.

Oh and for those that wanted to buy a second or third Interdictor to get a Flight Coordinator, there will be one coming in the Phoenix Home expension, so maybe try to control yourself a bit...

as long as they release ships that really bring something new to the table and are not just released for the sake of releasing ships, I'll buy them. If they release something that imo brings nothing new to the game than I might not purchase it unless it looks really awesome.

But so far, all the releases announced dramatically change the game and feel almost mandatory to me. Special abilities are cool yo.

With Wave 3 and 4, I was planning on 2 Liberties, 2-3 Gr75s, maybe one Gonzati for the cards. Being rebel only, I feel that lets me buy a little more. I see what you're saying though. Unless you regularly play friendlies over 400 points, there's not much incentive to over purchase.

If only I had your strength and willpower. I see all of these and think I need two of each.

I dont want their willpower! It is weak! I want more space ships! More strategy, more tactics!

It will be fun to have more things to play with. It will make the game always interesting to see what people mix and match ^_^

I also began with X-Wing, and I got in just before Wave 4 came out. At times I bought some things that I haven't used, and I've scaled back on doing that - mostly keeping my purchases Imperial.

With the new releases: I've already put my pre-orders down for 2 Imperial Flotillas and one Interdictor. I imagine myself getting 2 Arquitens cruisers and one of the Imperial squadron packs.

I don't think Armada is at the saturation point quite yet, but if it follows X-Wing it will get there. Every collectors game has a point where new releases just don't bring anything new, and at that point the average players just stop buying.

I stopped buying X-Wing awhile ago but only now that my 9 year old son is into Rebels and wants to play X-Wing will I buy the new Rebels ships for him to learn to play. So honestly the X-Wing game is now not releasing new ways to play so much as just new Themed squadrons you can run. (Appeal for the younger generation) So I don't blame FFG for looking for new players.

But I feel you, Armada too will reach that point for us, but I do enjoy every new ship right now because they do bring somethin new to the table that I really think will open the game up more.

Also FFG learned from a lot of their mistakes and success with X-Wing that we will benefit from, so maybe it will take longer before that point hits me.

I don't think I'll hit a point where I'm done buying, but with this much stuff coming out at nearly the same time, Corillian conflict is the only thing on my "must buy" list.

Its not so much as the same time. You have roughly 5 months till wave 5 so you have time to save a bit of money ^_^

There is no rush, take it easy and enjoy what you get when you get it.

Considering it will be close to a year between releases currently I don't feel too bombarded rather they are making up for a release we should have gotten in the middle of the year.
