Wave 10: The Failure or The Sleeper Hit

By Tailsgod, in X-Wing

Now that a lot of the initial rage has calmed down for wave 10
(Put your bingo cards away people :P )
I'm curious
Its an odd wave yes, but I don't think its a bad one at all.
Kylo's ability while initially seeming dumb because it costs an action is actually pretty dangerous considering on a decimator combined with vader is a monster that tears through shields, and hell you can even put vader on kylo's ship and make attacking him a very poor decision.

Then there's the Rebel TIE
Initial gut reaction aside, i don't think its going to play like a tie at all. I actually have a gut feeling, and I could be wrong, that this little color monster is going to be the true counter to the Wolf Pack

Finally the quadjumper

Its a cheap ship that looks like it will have an odd dial to switch up the game some more. Also that zero point ept is really good

Overall I don't think that wave 10 is actually bad, I think it looks bad but I have a feeling that its going to surprise a few people.

Wave 7 did this to (besides the episode 7 stuff.) K-wing turned out good, Punisher turned out bad, KASDFGH%#T$@#D turned out Mediocre. and so the cycle continues....

If it looks like a TIE, dialled like a TIE, statted like a TIE and costed like a TIE, chances are you have a TIE.

Except it's unique so you can't swarm it. Like taking a single fire ant to a gun fight.

Kylos shuttle will be the Imperial VCX and that TIE Punisher without wings will probably be the Scum bomber.

I don't have any issues with the wave as a whole, apart from the "conditions" system seeming very clunky. The ships are... fine? The rebel TIE is a bit of an oddball (I don't watch Rebels...), but the functionality seems nice. The Upsilon Batwing is pretty looking, but I can't imagine many situations where I'd be squeezing something out to squeeze him in over a Deci or Lambda. The Quadjumper is arguably the most interesting of the three, having a potential reverse maneuver, and an apparent emphasis on blocking and denial.

Overall, yeah, it's fine. I'm not getting the hate, but as with wave 9, I probably won't be rushing out to preorder, or even day-one purchase anything in particular.

I'm hoping they'll release 2 more ships with this wave with Rogue One on the horizon this December. Similar to the same way they handled the Force Awakens. Assuming they may have a release agreement with Disney to not release product details until for Rogue One until a certain date.

So assuming the PS2 generics are 4 points less than the PS6 named pilot, this list works out. With tactical jammers, the shuttles can leapfrog to give whichever one is being focused first an extra Sensor Cluster-able die vs torpedo scouts. Academy is just a blocker.

Vader crew is a nonbo with Kylo Ren; Kylo Ren's ability only works when attacking , while Vader's ability happens after attacking .

But Vader pilot with Advanced Targeting Computer loves Kylo. So does Palpy. So does Chiraneau.

The Rebel TIE should have just been cards and cardboard included in the Ghost pack.

That assumes tha tshuttle has a kturn. Which... imperials have not had in a long long time. Overpowered rebels yo.

I got issue with the "conditions" because to me it looks like the game is slipping towards star trek for sake this is STAR WARS so please more pew pew less conditioning objectives

Try 'business as usual'.

Don't forget we'll be getting the rogue one ships added to the pile soon enough, too. It's only a surprise once, after all. :P

Wave 10 isn't rocking my world, but I don't think it is a dud.

So it's just a filler wave. At this rate they could've added Stealth X's or Heavy TIE's/Z-95's and accomplished a modest degree of originality.

This is way more original than those ideas, and the upgrades look pretty interesting.

Improving the tech slot sounds pretty cool.

I hate Rebels/New Republic, but the XJ series and StealthXs have literally been some of the best craft devised in that mindset, to the point they're superior to anything Disney came up with. They would actually be useable X-wings if statted and priced correctly, unlike the T-65/70.

Not sure I follow you on how pander-spam is actually original, because these are neither exciting or zomgshinyneedz.

Well, compared to "A z-95 but with more hull" or "a tie with more hull" or "an x-wing with cloak" a captured ship with a title to reflect that seems more reasonable.

How is obscure EU **** less pandering? It's just pandering to someone else.

Stealth X can die in a fire. Leave my beautiful T-65's alone you weird EU creeps

Did you feel that way about Kallus?

Rage died down? What the H* you takin about.

The problem isn't conditions in a Star Wars game. They work GREAT in Imperial Assault and they were pretty good in the old Saga Edition RPG. The problem is they are shoehorned in after 50+ expansions to the game and thereby really over complicate the rules, when those effects could have just been handled on card text in a much more simple way.

neither

it's just a hit

the awesome new dimensions of gameplay opened up by Wave 10 simply eclipse the rather silly and superfluous fluff related concerns a lot of people seem to have

I am inclined to believe this.
