Waves 9 and 10: Welcome to X-Wing 1.5

truth, the potential for bull is high

but I'd blame FFG's sometimes lax grasp on concise RAW than the actual mechanics behind the conditions

Don't you dare...That droid has a heart of gold.

A heart of gold?

Dang, no wonder it costs so much :P

Hahaha you beat me to it and completely derailed me.

Conditions, bad. R7-T1, good.

I think this thing got way to reasonable way too fast. :P

Though R7-T1 having a heart of gold explains a lot.

EVERY ship that attacks Ren has the potential to be a PS 0 the very next turn.

Untrue. He can can only inflict the condition on the first ship that attacks him each round.

Now, you won't hear me pass judgement on the ability itself until I see it in action. It seems good, especially on a Bomber-Bus. But again, this topic is about me ******* about an absurd new mechanic that clutters the side board and starts (continues?) FFG on the track of endless peripherals.

Someone make an argument for these cards other than "it's fresh" - and if you have issue with universal, pervasive effects, how do you feel about every new ship having them (and pushing other ships into the 'unusable' category)?

Edited by Rinzler in a Tie

It's a 3 point crewman that uses an action to pass off this effect. It's pretty nice being able to get blinded pilot every time when it comes up critical but you do have to pick beforehand and, I mean, given the effects of the newer scum crew it's in line with that.

Do you feel like this is the organic eventuality of the game or power-creep?

I'm curious, why nobody complained about Ion Tokens,Bombs and Tractor Beams when they first got released as they're built on the same mechanical skeleton, only without the fancy name: the card itself only tells you 'apply token x' abd then you need to consult an additional card for the effect of token X.

We were eased in/distracted with a prancing gyro-cannon and some solid Ace-counters - but it's here.

X-Wing 1.5: The Conditioning

Now with more of the game taking place next to space mat! Pilot abilities, upgrades, and crew are passe. Dive into the thematic and mental Condition of your favorite on-screen characters. And if you fear for a second you'll forget what they look like, you need only look at your growing side board.

You wanted more mechanically relevant versions of your favorite ships but instead got "Shown the Dark Side".

The Mouse sends his regards.

You're wrong.

X-Wing "2.0" was started with the release of wave 4. With the first Acewings, the Phantom and Corran. No longer did jousting matter, and your 48 pOints of TIE Fighters was not equal to their super 48 points of regen ship. Have 7 TIE Fighters left against their Phantom? Automatic loss.

Yet another forum member complaining about something that's not actually a problem. Complain about an interesting and expensive crew slot version of Maarek's ability, because it's an upgrade card, but not Palp Aces. You don't want nuanceless universal effects to take over the game, but you're okay with Palpatine?!

This game has been a nuanceless upgrade card Turretwing/Acewing win-in-the-list-building-phase meta for ~half its lifespan, and now you think that's a problem?!

It's like U-Boat haters that suddenly think turrets are a problem, even though they're only 2 dice.

Wave 10 actually doesn't seem to have any broken Acewing garbage in it. A return to basics. You and I should love this wave.

Your fight is with someone else. We differ on thinking Ace Wing was a deviation from the core of the game. If you want to mindlessly smash two forces together then buy MicroMachines. High PS pilots and turrets are a reality, both thematically and mechanically. This isn't Total War where the only option is jousting. Ace Wings are, in my useless opinion, a healthy nuance. And anything that brings the focus back to the play area - which Conditions literally do the opposite - is something I'll be grateful for.

You've got more mismanaged, misguided beef than I do.

Conditions? Yeah, right. You can nay-say my concerns until end of line, but when they release some gimmick, like each player getting a deck to draw from or a Planes Walker equivalent, you'll look back and say, "When did this **** become okay?"

And you'll know. It was Wave X.

It became "okay" with the release of Palpatine. To have some stupid universal effect.

And these Conditions are far better designed.

Am I the only one that saw the new Rebel TIE Fighter and thought "So they couldn't come up with a decent ship to give to the Rebel faction so they started giving them TIE Fighters?"

No, there are entire threads dedicated to it, so your sentiment is a shared one. Personally, I think it was a smart business move. They know who they are trying to entice.

Having never watched the show but seeing how many people custom painted a Tie to look like Sabine's is a tell-all. They may have found something people wanted but didn't ask for - and, that, my friend is economic brilliance.

I think after ARC-170's and now this they're holding off on new Rebel ships until Rogue One comes out. After Rogue One I guess we'll have to see what they can come up with.

That may be so, but it's going to be funny watching people pile points into a ship with 3 hull and no shields.

There's a reason you never see pimped out TIE Fighters in lists attempting to be competitive. I'm going to start laughing when builds with TIE Fighters costing 25+ points start coming out.

idk, man, I think at this point even palp's just kinda tired

I wouldn't be surprised if goomba alone didn't sustain the dark lord for all of eternity, to the point where we just have palp sitting in his throne, wondering what's for dinner, opening the fridge and exclaiming "dark side dammit, not goomba again!"

We're talking about two different things.

Even so, to your point: Howl Runner, Wampa, and our friend Omega Leader..? Who the eff cares anyway, who will ride beside them? The Rebels can't spare 25 points in a list for this firecracker.

You know, the thing that actually bugs me most is a little odd: conditions, OK, whatever (though someone got a little overly floofy with the naming for my tastes)... But where the heck are the dual cards?

They introduced a whole new card mechanic into the game, and apparently used it for a single card in three waves to date.

From a design point, I start to worry that the designers are getting a little worn out, and so now chase 'novelty' even more than we do.

What worries me is not new mechanics, but their introduction and then casual disregard.

What worries me, all actual balance concerns aside... is gimmickwing.

The Mouse sends his regards.

Why do people act like Disney has anything to do with the mechanics of a niche game?

Because, despite the existence of things like the Star Wars Holiday Special, the Ewoks cartoons and movies, the Prequels, Kevin J. Anderson being allowed to define a portion of the Universe, and endless merchandising designed solely to exploit young people's love of the movies, all of which came before Disney purchased Star Wars, Disney must be blamed for anything that Star Wars fans don't like.

You know, nevermind the fact that Lucasfilm is still being run by the same people who were running it prior to the acquisition, sans George Lucas.

Keep coming guys, just dont mind me. I'm here to take all the salt here and sell. This way i can afford 4 sabine's tie fighter.

About those dual upgrade cardã. Really, adptability second side isnt used much to the point that dual the decision never axtually happens and matters.

Second side might not get used a lot, but it DOES get used. Mostly by Vader to be able to fly alongside the PS8 aces when the opponent doesn't have any ps9s for you to want to bump up to 10. Also for bumpmasters in scum to get down to PS2 to be able to block more ships.

I doubt it...

Am I the only one literally gobsmacked by the greed of imperial players and their unwillingness to acknowledge that their ships are invincible against most lists, and that it doesn't take any skill to just see where everything has moved and then boost and barrel roll with perfect information?

You're wrong, just like the Phantom and turret apologists. Turrets take skill to fly and they don't ruin the game, right?
