Next Core Set Predictions?

By Darkcloak, in X-Wing

They aren't going to release a third core set only 12 months after the last. It took almost 4 years between the original and the TFA sets.

They will more likely release a 'Rogue One' expansion set with U-Wing and TIE Striker... plus hopefully a few goodies for the T-65.

This is ignoring the fact that there wasn't a Star Wars movie every year to cash in on between the first core set and the TFA core set. FFG is a business. Businesses like to make money. Star Wars movie tie-ins print money. Therefore, I'm pretty sure Force Friday will see the release of a Rogue One Core Set as expansions won't interest the big retail stores like Walmart and Target. FFG won't miss their biggest payday this year by ignoring a Rogue One tie-in they can release in the big box stores.

Does it mean that they will release a new core set every year from now? Han Solo Core Set, Boba Fett Core Set etc?

With annual movie releases, I think more-frequent core sets are an inevitability. Considering the additions to the game in wave nine and ten, a fully comprehensive rulebook would be appreciated, even if it's just a collection of all the few-paragraph rules cards in an appendix.

Old school Rogue one would be better. !!

the only way i'd ever expect a new core is if they finally decide to release prequel ships.

Jedi Starfighters for rebels, Droid Fighters for Imps.

Course one could argue the Droids would be scum, since the Trade Federation guys arent exactly ... legal or ethical

IF that ever came to be, Droids would probably be dirt cheap and stupid fragile (like 1-2 hp) ships that have synergies with each other, i.e. more of them within a certain distance (probably range1) the deadlier they are.

Jedi Starfighters better have some kind of "sixth sense" type of title, since Jedis are known for seeing the future even if only glimpses.

No more core sets please. Even if the ships are new and its a good value, that's still a lot of cardboard going to waste.

People still will use the cardboard, either new players that dont have any previous core sets, or just players that want to have every toen (and hundreds of them- we'll cal lthem the obsessed), or playersthat only have some ships and not every ship.

Plus, maybe if you buy the new set, and you play with/teach someone that might want to get into the game but not actually get a core set for a bit you can give them all your extra cardboard and a spare rulebook, since face it, most people have at least 2 rulebooks (if not more)

And in other news :P

if they believe it will sell, why wouldn't they?

I seriously doubt that FFG will ever release core set with large base ships. I expect an expansion set for the spinoff movies like Heroes of Resistance, though.

Or the new Core Set could be...

Sabine!
