The two other ships coming in wave 10

New core set!

We don't need another core set.

A 'Rogue One' expansion with a T-65 (with black stripe as we've seen in the footage to date) and a U-Wing would be cool though.

You might be missing the bigger picture here. The movies drive people to Star Wars hobbies, a tie in to a movie might help motivate new players and in turn grow the game and playerbase.

A new core set could be for you, but should be for them. And then for all of us when they go on sale and the economics start to become obvious ;)

And sure, I don't need any more rulers or tokens or the other crap but I'll happily take two TIE Strykers and a U-Wing boxed up together nicely.

I'd be really interested to see the numbers (if they existed) on how many new people bought the TFA set versus existing players....

Me too but in purely anecdotal news, the various Facebook X-Wing groups I'm in absolutely saw an uptick of "hey I'm new to the game" posts after the release of the movie and I saw a number of those saying "I just picked this up at Barnes & Nobel" or similar, so whether or not the new core sets were a hit or not is irrelevant compared with the idea that the franchise IS bringing in new players and a core set with each movie can't exactly hurt the game.

Which is why the TFA cores are on clearance at Target right now. I'm sure Target loves having last years overstocked merchandise still on sale in time for this years merchandise to overstock the shelves for another year. There also the bane of any brick and mortar LGS atm as well. People picked up the hobby, decided to either get into it, or not, and have either no need for a new core set because their buying expansion packs or waiting releases like Kylo Ren's shuttle or HOTR. We already had Reboot hype once. Repeating it seems unlikely, especially with this movie, where the only OT characters were getting appearances from is Mon Mothma and a cameo of Darth Vader.(that we know of.) Not like the TFA. Plus we already know how this story ends. This is more of a Halo Reach type secnario. It'll be fun, it will even be really good i'm betting, but this isn't going to draw people like the TFA did. (Star wars has been silent with new content for 1 year now, if your not a fan of cartoons, as opposed to 10 years, from 05' to 15'. (Phantom menace 3D doesn't count.))

A new core set would just add to the already ever growing confusion. If I have 3 damage decks to chose from at tournaments I'll scream. (and put it on Youtube, I hear you can make money by doing that nowadays.). You can't axe the first coreset because that's still the only way to get luke, R2-D2, and Biggs, Mauler Mithell, etc. You can't axe the 2nd one because that's got all the new movie stuff from TFA, and it just came out. Releasing a 3rd is just going to confuse people.

Now a dual expansion, one where you get a ship for your rebels, and one where you get a ship(s) for your empire, would be pretty cool. Not a coreset, but think of it as a most wanted expansion, except it's for 2 factions. Junior can get the U-wing to fly with Poe and BB-8, and you can enjoy putting some wicked looking TIE strikers next to your TIE F/O's that you either love or hate. (Or Vader, I'm sure most dads/Grandads have picked up the TIE advanced expansion by this point.) this saves you (or so you think, because now your hooked!!!) Money because now you don't have to buy 3 singles packs, when you can get this booster pack for.... idk, something cheaper than $45 dollars. And new/old people that didn't pay attention to TFA will go, "hey, what are thooooooooooosssssssssseeeeeee?!?!?!" and buy the booster AND a coreset now. So now you retain your old customers and your new ones. Something for everyone!

That they're releasing yet another core set, and another record-number-of-releases year is in the works would certainly help explain some of wave 9, too: it was rushed, because their dev schedule was never built to handle The Mouse. ;)

Were this the case, I suspect it'll be wave 11 that things (and balance) start selling down properly again.

Which is a pity for the fang, but we'll get there eventually. ;)

This certainly isn't the only item I've seen on clearance at Target, not even the only Star Wars item. You could actually argue they are clearing their shelves of any remainder to make space for the new stock - but I have no data on Target's inventory or revenue with XWM so it's pure conjecture on my part, but I think you are way over-reading what them selling the remainder of the stock means to a huge corporation like Target.

I will have to take your word on that, I don't have an LGS but I'm genuinely surprised that the core set would be a problem unless no one new is getting into the hobby via an LGS

It sort of feels like you're projecting more than a little on the damage deck issue but DO completely agree that from a retail perspective, carrying 3 variants of the same box set could be problematic and you are spot on that with each core set being released, some unique cards would need to be re-released. Either that or people could clean up on eBay ;)

From an existing player's perspective, this makes total sense but to my points earlier and elsewhere, the point of a new core would be to draw in new players. The expansion your talking about falls into the 'additional purchase required' and someone might look at a red or blue core and not feel any synergy and be put off.

I guess time will tell, thanks for the interesting counterpoints and discussion!

really dont see a reason for a core set for the striker and uwing.

However that could potentially be why Kylo is specific on pilot cards...third damage deck having plenty to pick from, but none as ungodly crippling as the original deck lol (specifically denial of pilot ability AND ept was bs)

Though i do expect them to be released as well. They simply cant announce anything until september...but we arent getting it till after september anyway.

There's going to be a new Star Wars movie (either sequel trilogy or anthology) every year through 2020. We're not going to end up with 7 core sets, that's just not going to happen.

While it does seem likely, there is only 1 unknown SKU at the moment.

Could they be packaged together?

Rouge One Core Set Confirmed!

along with this... :P
