Plus core sets are the best bang for your buck so not sure why people wouldn't want a new one.
Assuming you play Rebels and the Empire AND need/want twice as many Imperial ships
And you want even more basic tokens, the same maneuver templates, the same range rulers, same dice, same asteroids, not to mention a third damage deck that NO ONE asked for or needed. If the deck is the same there are 0 reasons an established player would buy this thing outside the ocd of having new ships on force friday. I gurantee I won't buy one, fell for that crap last year. A core set a year is really not needed and I would be really surprised if doing that brings in many players that just don't buy the core and quit. Everyone that defends it says it has to be that way to sell to Target. Is target really that important to xwing? Was it profitable to either company to force this strategy?
A core set is about thirty bucks, and comes with three ships. Expansions cost 15, so you save 15 bucks and if it bothers you so much throw the extra stuff out.
