Kylo Ren Dead on Arrival?

I'm not sure if it bypasses shields, since it says 'suffers critical damage' I would think that would mean you deal a critical effect card. This might be a card that needs some clarification from FFG, maybe they can address it in an upcoming interview. You know because if it affects ships that ships that still have shields it is a good deal better/different that an ability that only comes into effect when the ship is stripped of shields and you are required to get a Critical hit on it, though there are plenty of cards to help get one.

However on the Timing Chart for Attacks it says "remove shield tokens to cancel [kaboom] results". In the rules reference it says "If the defender was hit, it suffers one damage for each uncanceled [boom] result and one critical damage for each uncanceled [kaboom] result." Am I missing something because I'm still thinking this means it does not go through shields.

The chart says "remove shield tokens to cancel [kaboom] results"

However, the condition card says "When you suffer critical damage during an attack, you are INSTEAD dealt the chosen faceup damage card."

If they wanted it to only happen the other way around, they would have worded similar to Boba Fett crew card. "During an attack, if the defender was dealt a faceup damage card, they are instead dealt the chosen faceup damage card."

They could have worded it that way but that's not enough to make a ruling on really. I think this is a pretty big deal that needs clarification to determine Kylo's usefulness. If it does not go through shields... Meh. If it does that's another caliber of awesome.

ikr? imps have a whole slew of 3pt crew cards and we use what...2 of them? (vader and fleet officer). NONE of our 2pt imp-specific cards are good, 4pts would be good if they were 2pts, palp is not a crew card hes a ship, and wtf is a 1pt crew?

yet imps have the most crew slots. We have FOUR ships with wave10 that have double or triple crew slots! The hell?

Rebel Captive? I mean, it's not great against Dengaroo maybe, but it's still a REALLY effective Imperial only crew card.

Check out the main rulebook on page 9 "Critical Damage": "During an attack, a ship suffers one critical damage for each uncanceled <kaboom> result."

Then under the "Damage" entry: "If an effect instructs a player to deal a Damage card to a ship, this is different from the ship suffering damage. The card is dealt to the ship regardless of whether the ship has any shield tokens remaining."

The new Condition card changes a "suffer damage" (which goes to shield first) to a "deal a Damage Card" (which goes straight to the hull).

Seems very clear to me. :)

Good find! Further down in that section also: "When a ship suffers a damage or critical damage, it loses one shield token.” If you have a crit result make it through whether it’s on shields or hull it is still “suffering a critical damage” which matches the wording on Kylo’s Condition card. By this reasoning this condition card does bypass shields so long as there is one uncanceled crit result. This makes this Condition card CRAZY good!

What, you're not going to put Kylo Ren on Rear Admiral Chiraneau?

Ew.

Let's not forget that you don't have to have the ship that Kylo is on to get the Condition effect. Any ship can trigger it such as an Advanced Targeting Computer TIE Advanced or Backdraft or... Winged Gundark.

I was looking for ways to guarantee a crit; took me this long to realize Ren's condition works really well with ATC Vader

It needs to go through shields. Vader does damage at least if a shield is still there. No way this gets extra requirements and costs the same for less effect.

Basically it's a circuitous and pricey version of Wampa or BM Slicer tools.

Grandpa Vader is going to combo well with him. Uncle Palpy to. Changing that 1 die result to a crit.

Also just the base ship alone. 4 attack dice is going to bring devestation to whatever it hits.( if it hits).

Basically it's a circuitous and pricey version of Wampa or BM Slicer tools.

BM Slicer Tools or Wampa aren't guaranteed to give Dengar a Damaged Cockpit though.

You can guarantee a blinded pilot or ps 0 and he's useless?

The **** world is this? I want out!

Ole Meanies hate'n on The Force Awakens... ignore it utterly Brah.

Not really. Assuming that you've got a way to generate a lot of crits, you are usually going to drop Soontir Fel to PS0 the first time you push damage through on him. You can get a Stunned Pilot on a ship early in the game before they lost their shields and now your blockers are causing damage and denying actions.

Slow. Clap. That's beautiful.

Kylo Ren piloting his own shuttle is dumb.

We might as well get a Palpatine piloting a Lambda -class.

They don't fly...they ride.

He is Han's son....
