Why not speed 5 and hull 6..............they are just a whee bit slower than TIE interceptors, have at least 3 shields, and are maneuverable as hell. They are designed to take on and beat any rebel fighter. And they also have a tractor beam to slow down larger craft. These babies are the Ferrari of the Imperial forces, crossed with an M1 Abrahms MBT with a re-inforced hull, shields, 4 large laser cannon and 2 ION cannons. They also have a hyper drive to make them a serious threat. So I like them very much.............. I have an entire wing for my fleet, so nice to beat up a rebel squadron with. My favorite saying is

"quit squirming , this will not hurt one bit"

In which case, it'll have decent Anti-Squadron, and Awesome Bombing, and will be expensive as all hell...

Which, in saying, isn't neccessarily a Bad thing... But there won't be a real Swarm of them that way, which makes my Rebel heart slow down a little...

I vote for them being Stupid Expensive. Would fit.

Funny thing is the Defender is not a bomber, it is meant to track a fighter , engage it, and then immobilize it with the ION cannons, and kill it. Works great on larger vessels as well. It can carry torpedoes.......best option being ION torpedoes for long distance. But as a bomber no, I would say 2 red and 4 blue. It should have Counter 2 at least. It is a high speed interceptor not a low drag bomber. Bomber would force it to do something it was really not designed to do. that is for the TIE bombers.

Base version is probably 20pts

To do it justice it should have Speed 5, Hull 7, ROGUE, Tycho's ability, Bomber, Escort, Counter etc. etc. and TONS of all manner of dice....4 blue and 4 black for squads, 2 blue 2 black for the ships.

And double scatters and braces for Marek. Yeeeha!!!

whatever will be on those cards, the Defender finally arrived and I am oh so happy!!!

For me, the game is very near complete now, whatever comes now is a bonus. Ok, I still want Mara and Thrawn, true enough :)

I can see the defender weighing in at 18 - 20 points base. It's going to be a go to squadron for the Imps.

I am amazingly excited for the release of these, I'm a big fan of the Defender - to the point that I currently consider any X-Wing list to be incomplete without at least one.

I suspect that the antiship dice it has will not actually be all that impressive, at most a single black. We've long had a proper heavy fighter with the bomber keyword in the X-Wing, so the Defender is likely to fill that very niche for the Imperials.

With squadron activations, super expensive fighters aren't that bad. Say you only have three of them, well that is all you get to vitiate anyway.

Only if you're Imperial Slugs...

Remember the days when you could just divert all power to your engines and out run just about everything (including most of the missiles/torpedoes)?

TIE Interceptors were faster?!? Pfft, not in those days.​ ​

I so find it a little odd that the fighter that was billed as the most advanced thing in production is a bit lacking in the keyword ability department, but I suppose I don't /really/ want to be spending 30 points each on them. A bucket of anti-squadron dice on a fast and tough platform will be sweet, with being a credible threat against ships gravy on top.

A shame it doesn't have grit as standard, though

Could we see Blue/Red Anti ship ?!

I mean, 1 more speed and 1 more hull than a Tie Bomber, no heavy, but tbh I want my bombers shooting ships, heavy or not heavy is of minor import. Tie Bombers are 9pts, if these defenders are as expensive as speculated, I want something a **** sight more than 1sp, 1 hp for 11pts.
