Was hoping for pre-painted

By BlodVargarna, in Runewars Miniatures Game

To be honest, I have not heard much good about the Army Painter brand of primers.

I've enjoyed all of my FF games regardless of whether they're pre-painted models or not. It's actually only recently I've felt an interest in wanting to have some painted. Overall I'm sure it will be cheaper to paint them myself than pay an extra charge built into the price. Keeping that price down by not pre-painting means more players can afford to buy the game and try it. I'd rather the games prices stayed down and have the option to paint however I'd like them painted.

If you guys are interested in getting them painted professionally, this is a good friend of mine's company, they do great work https://paintedfigs.com/

And the answer is:

RuneWars is a rank-and-file miniatures game for two players that invites you to experience war on a grand scale. Rather than small groups of figures in a frenetic skirmish, you’ll command powerful blocks of figures as they wheel and maneuver across the battlefield. With plenty of different figures, countless ways to upgrade your units, and the blank canvas of unpainted figures , it’s easy to make your RuneWars army completely unique.

yes, we knew this since announcement. That is the point of this thread as some were hoping it would be pre painted like X-Wing.

Nevermind I'm out. I would rather pay more for prepainted.

You can pay more to buy an unpainted mini and then get it painted in the colours you want. Just need to find a willing painter ;D

Guys, X-Wing ships don't have cloaks, capes, faces, and similar, and they are also pretty much rectangular or at least similar to a geometric figures. For a machine-point of view, they are a lot easier to paint.

As others have pointed out, the main reasons are:

- More detail. It is easier to paint a ship than painting a hero with a lot of crevices and detail.

- More quantity. In x-wing, you play between 2 and 8 miniatures. In runewars, you may be looking at 20-50 models by the looks of it.

- Sales quantity: Star wars is a well-known IP. It sells a lot. Runewars will sell less, therefore making it riskier and more expensive to try to serialize the painting job.

Since the above holds true, they would have to charge you for a more intricate paintjob on a larger amount of miniatures, which may take the core from $100 to, say, $200.

Luckily, there are solutions:

- Ebay will surely have painted miniatures ready for sale.

- You can play them unpainted. Ugly, but works until you paint or commission the paintjob.

- Pay a friend with beers. Lots of beers.

Advantages to supplying them unpainted:

- Cheaper core, which makes it more accessible to try out before deciding to invest more without knowing if you will like it.

- Custom colors once you paint them or commission the paint.

X-wing is the gateway drug. I was always interested in miniatures gaming I liked the knights on horseback and WWII stuff but was always too lazy to deal with painting and building stuff. And I just didn't really know where to begin. I wouldn't have looked twice at X-wing if the ships had been unpainted.

And then there was Armada and "I'm going to put some paint on my little squadron fighter ships." And now I hate that paint job on the T-70 and wow look at these videos this dude put up for those Imperial Assault figures. I could follow those...

And now I keep finding myself in this forum.

I'm digging the models so far. Painting while it can be a bear will help keep the price point (hopefully) reasonable, and I'm really liking the look of the undead.

That said, if FFG partners with a company like Vallejo and do a series of how to paint videos (much in the same manner as GW has done recently), I think it'll be fine.

I'm unreasonably excited to paint the flag bearers. I hope they're a wave one deal and come out soon after the core.

They're gonna look so cool marching among the ranks of the foot soldiers.

I find that the trays, while functionally brilliant, kinda muck up the aesthetics. It's a bit too regimented, if you catch my meaning. A big 'ol flag flying among the troops ought to really break up the monotony.

I agree. I am hoping someone makes a "rim" product that can finish off the tray and get rid of the puzzle look, at least while on the display shelf and not being played. just something that had a straight edge and maybe a lip that can be flocked the same way as the top of the bases. If someone doesn't make one, might have to pick up a 3d printer and give it a go.
