Just saw a post from TC with pictures of all the slides and it does say Organized Play Support in the slides. So YAY! and **** you FFG!!!!!!

I was thrilled that they're not painted, since I just got into painting miniatures. Looks like higher quality sculpts too.

In my case, I'm just horrible at painting. I managed to ruin a skeleton in my old Undead army in WFB.

The **** thing is mostly white, and I still managed to mess it up.

Give it a base coat then dunk it in a wash and the miniatures will look 1000% better than just plastic colors out of a box for almost no effort. That's what I'm going to do to the entire set of Battle of the Five Armies, haha.

You could always pay someone for painting or you could try it, if don't want awarding winning levels of painting painting armies can be quite fast, even more so if you use washes. And you can find many websites on the net dedicated to painting and helping people learn how to paint.

Painting is very intimidating, but it can be a blast! Once you get started, it's not so difficult.

I can paint miniatures. I have a bunch of 40k stuff that I have painted up. I guess that aspect of the hobby just doesn't appeal to me. Paying someone is even less appealing, I'd rather put that $ into literally anything else.

Having a game I can play out of the box is a strong appeal.

I have reached an age now where I just can't afford the time to paint tons of models. I can can paint well, but I am slow and so I am one of those also looking for games straight out of the box. The more detail they put into these miniatures, the more they cost and the more time I have to spend getting the paint job just right, or I will feel I have wasted my money rushing. I guess these days my hobby is to play games instead of a hobby painting. If I decide to play this I will probably play it unpainted, but it will depend on assembly of the models. If it follows the trend of multiple parts that need removing from spruces and lots of cleaning and glueing I will have to pass. If it follows a trend of the small figures being fully assembled and just the larger ones needing limited assembly I might be interested. I started war gaming with WFB 3rd Edition, the models were lead and tin, no plastic in sight, we just glued to a base and tickled the mold flashing off with a small file and you was good to go, ready for the prime. Your lead army was heavy and solid, but no where near as detailed as the plastic kits that are around now. If on the other hand FFG released a deluxe version with the models already to go, painted and all, would be a better option for an old git like me, who has painted one model too many over the last 30 years. My last thoughts on this is a hope that FFG is not venturing into miniatures the same way GW and making their games portfolio all about miniatures. At this moment in time it does not seem that it is, but there used to be a time (many years ago now) that GW was more about the games and less about the miniatures. Long live the FFG empire as we know it today.

Same here. Would insta-buy if the miniatures would be painted. Love these kind of wargames, but with 2 small kids i just don't have the time to paint anymore...

At the first look, I was so excited: "Yeah, a pre-painted fantasy tabletop game...". And now... disillusionment.

I mean FFG, seriously? You guys have done well with X-wing. What you think was the reason for the success?
One most important point was that the figures/ships are pre-PAINTED!

For this price of near 100$ of this new tabletop the customer could expect their are pre-painted.

ug. I was totally thinking the minis were going to be pre-painted, sadly this really drops my interest level. Honestly I don't mind a premium price if it's prepainted but I just don't have gobs of time to paint and paint and paint and paint.

LIke others have pointed out, this is akin to the joy of X-wing, buy, open the box and play.

Can always play unpainted. I've not painted my IA figures. Doesn't stop me having fun at tournaments.

You guys may not be aware, but there are painting services that will paint your figures for a fee. Either ones online that you can ship your figures to (you can even buy the figures directly to their address to save an extra shipping charge), or just local guys that will do this. Ask around at your local game stores.

Yes, it's an additional expense, but it would cost more if they were pre-painted from FFG too. At least this way you get a lot of input on what you want your custom painted guys to look like.

As for a counter to dejected Warhammer Fantasy Players, Kings of War from Mantic games in the UK has embraced them with flying colors.

Interesting choice from FFG, but as always I wish them well.

I prefer they opted for not painted:

1. Less expensive to buy at the beginning.

2. As some people have written, you can always play with figures un-painted (I've done that with IA and Descent and still have fun... game looks better when you have them painted, I agree).

3. You have the option of painting them yourself and adding your personal touch if you have the time and like that part of the hobby.

4. If you don't want to paint yourself and still want them painted, you can hire a miniatures painting service, as mentioned by someone in the thread, and at the end you'll have better quality than buying pre-painted for almost the same cost (though I admit you'll spend some extra time to get them to the service, but it's negligible).

5. Pre-painted fantasy miniatures usually look horrible... Pre-painted ships are easier to do than pre-painted fantasy miniatures that require more effort, and that's why they could do it with X-Wing and Armada, but not with IA or Descent.

So, I think it's better because it's more flexible (paint yourself/ pay for someone else to do it) and cheaper if you don't want to play them painted.

Yeah this is me. I've painted armies for at least five systems and I really am just done with it. A pre-painted mass mini game would really appeal to me since I don't need to paint yet another army. I also just don't have as much time to sit and make it look good. At least it seems like this system uses a lot less minis than Warhammer but being able to just plunk down a painted army seconds after purchase is what I would want here.

I hadn't heard of Conan: Rise of Monsters before, I'll have to take a peek at that one. Not sure that Reaper is a company that I'd expect to make an industrial-strength balanced competitive rules system but stranger things have happened.
