Wave 8

So, no indication that Captain Terro/Dewback Rider includes two rider sculpts to differentiate the unique from the generic, like General Weiss? :-\

At the in-flight report at GenCon, Corey Konieczka mentioned that Captain Terro is "similar to the AT-ST that we sold in that you can build it in two different configurations to make a leader or a standard dewback rider". My guess is swappable push-fit torso for the rider.

Also am I the only one to think that Luke looks like he isn't wearing his Return of the Jedi outfit?

I just noticed that as well. He's definitely wearing his robes.

Just noticed that Alliance Rangers have the Hunter tag. Being the only Rebel hunters will make it hard to justify putting hunter cards into your deck just for them, but an interesting move IMO.

We are bound to get a lot more Hunter cards in this wave, if that redefines the Hunter trait to the extent that Bespin did with Spy, you're bound to get a lot of mileage out of that aspect of Rangers.

Not to mention that the inevitable Ewoks expansion will most likely have the Hunter and Brawler traits.

I was a lot more upset about the lack of time periods with Obi-Wan and co. than I am now.. and am a hypocrite as I bought all of those figures. I guess the thing that I didn't like about it was that they started it, got people that are thematically obsessed like myself hooked on the time period approach and are now just abandoning without an explanation besides "it restricts content" aka "it restricts dollars". FFG runs a business, but they also run a thematic strategy game that many of us got into for the movie tie in related content. I thought it was so cool that we were diving into the action as this non-canon Rebel squadron backing up guys like Han or Luke off camera (unofficially) and showing up at places like Mos Eisley or Hoth to re visit some of the most iconic movie sets arguably in cinema history.

Taking away the timelines (or continuous story line) really seemed to draw me out of that 'zone', even though TS didn't have a timeline it still just 'fit' in the over arching story that did because I could place it using the Core and Hoth. Now it just seems like a jumbled mess. But I get it, independent expansions has worked really well for Descent and it will continue to work for Imperial Assault. I just wish the transition was smoother, but I can't offer insight into how they could have actually made it better. But I am also not the one taking peoples money.

What I love about the game is that each expansion just offers so many goodies to play with. I got at least 1 copy of each, 2 for Hired Guns and ISB Infiltrators. End of the day the time periods aren't that important. You know approximately when each campaign takes place from the story around it, its up to a group vote whether you don't use Obi-Wan or pretend its an alternate world where he never faced Vader. Or maybe Greedo never died, he woke up a couple days later in hospital with a really bad headache. It only depends on how seriously you take the whole thing.

I'm assuming since Jabba's Realm is the first big expansion since the current wave, it will either retain some part of the time periods, or state the rule that the periods are dropped. Currently, unless you house rule it, the time periods still stand and the exception only applies to the last wave released...

I can see how having time periods in addition to sometimes needing tiles from certain expansions would be a turnoff for some people when it comes to buying figure packs.

FFG will want you to be able to walk into a shop, feel like you can buy any pack on the shelf and play with it immediately.

Except this isn't true in any case as many figure packs are linked to the expansions. So you have to first figure out which figures go with which expansions before you buy the pack as 99% of the time they require tiles from that expansion for their side mission.

While in the shop turn the pack around and read the red rectangle which tells you exactly which expansion is needed.

Yes, and turning the pack around in your hand does not count as figuring it out? I didn't say it was difficult, did I? I meant it more as you can't just walk in and grab any figure and walk out, you will be frustrated if you do not first check with expansion it goes with.

This game just keeps crapping on 40k, over and over again.

WHA?

It's really as easy as checking that the box is actually for a game you actually own rather than grab just any box from the shelve. :D
