Jabba's Realm

By tomkat364, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I must admit I'm disappointed in the lack of time period on Jedi Luke.

Other than that most of the Jabba box is fairly predictable.

Will be interesting to see how different these new heroes will play

Back on tatooine and still no jawas.

A Rancor?

Just shut up and take my money FFG.

Awesome!

Got to admit, this is a big improvement over mini-pigs and mall cops with weird hats.

Not a fan of Jabba being in this game at all, especially with a RG attack pool. I just don’t like seeing these big named commanders in a squad based game.

Since they are on the cover, I guess next will be a Bib Fortuna model to provide Scum additional activations as a general or officer and a slinky Twi'lek slave girl to act as a distraction and force opponents to lose actions (with a special rule: Sacrifice, may be fed to a Rancor to add a focus to all friendly models on the board).

I would like to see Jabba as a Campaign only figure, he's too top-level for a skirmish game. In a campaign, the Rebs have their own goals to accomplish, rather than wasting time shooting at Jabba.

Like the Pit Droid. Loving the Weequay and Gammorreans.

I think I read that the 'Heroes' of Jabba's Realm in Campaign mode are Scum faction in skirmish... I hope so, that'd be pretty cool.

I'm a little 'Aaarg!' that it is Jabba related and we're back on Tatooine, but I understand that and I am so thrilled over the models and expansions.

Jabba has a separate campaign only card. TE one we can see is skirmish only. But, it's incredible. He'll be near autoinclude in most mercenary lists, and maybe we won't see Gideon and Threepio all the time for them. He can't move, though, so the opponent will have to leave him alone or come after him and be can hold his own in a melee brawl. Important to note though is that he can't contribute to map control because he's essentially stationary. The 2x2 base, low speed, and no mobile basically means he sits where you start him and never moves. Thematic!

Visible differences between the two Jabbas:

Bully appears the same: A figure of your choice within 3 spaces suffers 3 strain.

Skirmish: Incentive - A merc figure of your choice becomes focused.

vs Campaign: Additional Incentive - A friendly figure of your choice recovers 2 damage and becomes focused.

Skirmish Schemes - Draw one command card.

vs Campaign Schemes - Increase threat by 2.

Campaign has Execution Order - Another merc figure of your choice may interrupt to perform an attack .

Skirmish has Order Hit - (two special actions) Spend 2 VPs. A merc figure of your choice may interrupt to perform an attack. Then it gains two movement points.

Skirmish has Nefarious [something] - When a hostile figure is defeated, gain 1 VP.

Campaign has something that looks like Negotiate - unreadable.

Honestly i like the jet troopers a lot. I honestly hate regular stormtroopers. They are stupidly effective and yet very boring to use. I night a pack of ISBs just so I have a thematic group to use besides them. The jet pack tried are nice for that reason. But also because their cost is cheap enough that you could resupply a whole group of them pretty easily. With the endless reserves class card you can deploy two for only 3 threat, which is the best deal you can get using that card, and make sure you always have that twi man squad to harass the heroes.

How about more than 1-2 new imperials...?

I'm so tired of the mercenary faction. This game is supposed to be about the Rebels vs Empire!

Seriously??!?! Will you ever be happy? Really, what would it take to make you happy? Imagine if it was a full-blown Rebels expansion!

Sorry that I want to see some Imperials in a game called IMPERIAL Assault.

Don't like it?

Don't buy it!

Now stop your whining and complaining and let the rest of us enjoy this wonderful new expansion. As someone who played mostly all imperial lists for X-wing and now want to play mostly scum for Imperial Assault i absolutely love the bunch more options that are now going to be available. This is going to be my most anticipated expansion yet

thanks FFG! keep up the good work

Oh boy.. here we go again with that terrible logic.

congratualtions Mr. Troll, you've officially hit my ignore list. I don't need people like you bringing life down in negativity

Lol. I'm the troll? You're the one jumped in and said 'stop your whining and complaining' to legitimate complaints. Sorry I state my opinion.

This is the expansion I was hoping for.

Guess I have to wait longer for Mara Jade...

Guess I have to wait longer for Mara Jade...

I seriously doubt she is going to get in love in IA. We can hope. I have two Mara Jade Star Wars miniatures. Maybe it is time for a custom card to see how the community thinks Mara Jade should be constructed.

She's too popular not to make it back into cannon.

One of my outlandish theories about Mara Jade is that she is Jyn Erso. That is what the trailers keep harping on 'what will you become'- and while I know they disguise themselves in order to steal the plans, I think she gets captured and ends up becoming Mara Jade.

I believe she was the only EU character to get a figure as well, iirc.

nm- I see there are several EU character with figures. But still, pretty cool.

She's also appeared on one of the skirmish mission cards. And I think shes in X-wing. Its not much BUT FFG is aware of her atleast.

Honestly, if its the name stopping her I'd be happy with a look-a-like named Emperor's Hand or something similar. Like what happened to the RGC. We all know its Carnor Jax.

Perhaps they want her exclusively in a villian pack. Those figure packs are the best way to make money off of famous characters since they are overcosted compared to what you get in a box expansion. Besides, what notable imperials are left that aren't commanders? Surely FFG won't just release a wave of packs with A) heres Ozzel! (next wave) Here's Piett! (next wave) Here's Tarkin! or B) Here's made up OC 1. (next wave) Heres made up OC 2

So far non-figure pack expansion we have is just made up Imperial OCs. Weiss was nobody. Sorin was nobody. Blaise was nobody. Terro is nobody. And I'll bet that the next box expansion imperial villians will be nobodies.

In other words... they were already scraping the bottom of the barrel for notable imperials ever since day 1.

The thing with Jax is that he was actually Jax in pre production copies at least until the Gencon announcement. If you watch the demo videos from that event, you can see a "Deploy the reserved Carnor Jax" line in the campaign guide they were using. By virtue of how much lead time there is to making a miniature, when the whole EU-is-now-out-so-Jax-is-a-no-no conversation with Lucasfilm happened, they were propably in the middle of production of the figure. I suspect that Lucasfilm ageed to make an exception this once so that FFG wouldn't lose a big sack of $ over that, as long as they at least change the name.

Now, at this year's In Flight Report, Mr. Petersen was specifically asked about EU stuff going forward. He ceded the question to an employee who said that FFG doesn't actually have much say over what they get to make - basically they are handed an 'okay list' from Lucasfilm and then make stuff off that list.

So no, given those points I'm certain that unless Lucasfilm pulls a Thrawn with Mara Jade, there's zero chance she gets put into Imperial Assault.

Don't be a **** and crush my hopes.

Besides, how do you know Mara Jade isn't on that list? Did they actually show it?

In a 1997 Star Wars insider pole about favorite characters. Mara Jade broke into the top 20. She was the only non-film character to do so. She was wildly popular among female fans as well.

... Which is awesome. For something that's almost Twenty Years Ago :D

The expansion and the wave looks amazing. Pretty much everything I wanted, right down to some more alien heroes and the new class decks (Scum/Villain focused decks is exactly what I was hoping for). I would have maybe wanted a bit less specific focus on Jabba's Palace, but eh, I'll take it.

The only real stand out is the commandos - not really sure why they'd release them now. My first thought was not to 'flood the market' with Rebels if the next expansion is Endor (because Ewoks will take the generic unit slot), but unless they go against their usual policy re expansion compatibility they wouldn't be available for an Endor campaign, and that just seems silly.

Regarding the whole EU thing - it's pretty obvious that Disney wanted to lock things down when they took over, and that they'd almost certainly reintroduce popular EU characters under controlled conditions - there's really no reason not to for at least some of them, as they are marketable characters that fit in well. It's essentially the same kind of thing that DC does with it's Crisis events in comics. If you consider Thrawn is the start of this, I'm sure we'll see some implementation of some of the more popular/well known characters (Kyle, Dash, Mara) in the relatively near future, it's just a matter of Disney finding the right format. So I think anyone who's expecting these characters to show up in IA soon are probably getting their hopes up, but at the same time the people saying there is no chance they'll be in IA are probably wrong. I'd say it's just a matter of whether IA survives long enough to see these characters get implemented in other media first. (But fans - and companies like FFG - pushing them can only really show there's an interest, and possibly speed this up)

Good post Abyss. Still, I think Mara Jade would have been a far better addition than the Grand Inquisitor. At least Mara was alive during the the time of the OT, and basically filled a similar role.

True, but they probably wanted the people interested in Rebels to pick up the Grand Inquisitor. I will say though that I am so hoping that Mara Jade makes a come back either in a future Timothy Zahn novel or in Rebels. I don't care if they make it so she never ends up with Luke, all I want is that she is reintroduced as a female Imperial who is competent, serves the Emperor as the Emperor's Hand or some form of replacement for the Inquisitors as the Empire shifts from a 'hunt down the jedi' to a 'eliminate too ambitious/corrupt Imperial figures and influential rebel sympathizers', uses a lightsaber, and is sympathetic. Or basically just axe her whole fall in love with Luke bit if they want to keep him the celibate space monk or he fell in love with someone else.
