Jabba's Realm

By tomkat364, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I just noticed the Dewback isn't massive. At least the captain terro isn't. That's odd.

Are you saying Dewbacks shouldn't be able to trash into cantina in the campaign?

Haha, that sounds awesome. It means the Bantha rider and Dewback rider dont feel the same when I thought they would have similar rules.

Also some missions represent inside a star destroyer and are all interior and dont allow mercenary units. Yet, you can have dewbacks running around in those missions which is insane.

Can't wait to see the HP and speed on that Rancor, I'm hoping it's speed 5. And that mini is incredible... Going to have a buddy paint up a couple for me.

Jabba is a near auto-include for Scum now with his support economy. I love the flavor that all of his abilities are global. Big Fat Slug never has to move, and if anyone comes after him, he can slap them with 3 strain and doesn't even have too shabby of an attack.

The automatic Damage from Terro is going to be powerful, and his attack range can definitely help compensate for his speed.

Do Alliance Rangers remind anyone of Mak Eshkarey? They'll be able to hit from a mile away but don't have the damage potential of HKs.

I love that the Jet Troopers mini is on a stand. Kinda wish Boba Fett was too, now. First instinct with them is to take the Overrun command card. Lets you fly over a bunch of figures and deal auto damage to each of them, because they have the vehicle type.

Even without high speed, it has reach and along with massive it can reach past units and attack others. Tack on Cleave 2 and it can damage a unit 3 spaces away. I'm guessing it has 4 speed at max.

Jabba is such a bully... he hurt my feelings and now I can't precise strike.

Yes, Terro looks great. Though thematically a bit limited.

IMO the rangers look overcosted and don't offer much damage outside of their +damage surge. BB is what Mak starts with after all. Also, LOS usually hampers shooting from long distances. Unlike the HKs and other sniper heroes, the rangers have no way to ignore it (in campaign atleast.) Sniper seems like it'll be tricky to trigger as in my experience most missions happen in close quarters. They seem like their best (and perhaps only) use would be to kill weaker units or finish off near dead ones. But 9 threat seems like alot to me for regulars.

Jet Troopers are probably the most exciting thing in the expansion for me. I might just ebay them.

A Dewback is significantly smaller and less bulky than an AT-ST or a Rancor or a Bantha. It's not that much bigger than a large horse.

In fact, if you look carefully at the figure render, I think it comes on a 2x1 base like the eWeb and Wampa.

So according to this expansion, Luke had a team of rebel operatives with him as he assaulted Jabba's Palace?

It depends on how they play Luke in this. I would think it would take a team of rebels to infiltrate the palace and set up for Luke's arrival. Too bad Mara isn't there. Like instead of Jabba, who really is a bad addition to squad based combat.

(See also Skirmish abilities: Verena's Fighting Knife and Davith's Fell Swoop. Neither would be possible if a deployment card figure could actually only attack once.)

Both of those abilities explicitly break the rule. Luke's does not.

Ah, good spot.

Also, it looks like he's riding a small version too, or at least one on a diet:

None of those abilities break the rule.

Neither does Brutality . There is nothing to break because you are only spending one action to perform two attacks. There are also double-action special actions that let a figure perform two or three attacks. Those break no rule either.

Assault lets a figure get over the one-attack-action-per-activation limitation of non-heroes.

Luke definitely costs too much, no argument there, but his ability to attack twice, or double move to run in, swing, and get out, can deal some hurt.

I kind of wish Jabba dealt 2 strain instead of 3 cause it seems like he just calls troopers fat and causes them to run off crying.

Guys, stop just comparing raw numerical stats with Luke (or any other figure in the game for that matter). Compare the big picture. The big picture in the case of Luke being that his passive ability is ABSOLUTELY FREAKING BONKERS and single-handedly counters Imperial Trooper skirmish lists, ie. all Imperial skirmish lists.

Add to that the Jabba VP gain ability that punishes Trooper lists so bad it isn't even funny.

This wave will turn the skirmish meta on it's head, then handle it a pink dress, bonnet and clown shoes and order it to ride around on a unicycle and refer to itself as Mary.

THIS deal.... is very fair and I'm happy to be apart of it.

Being called Bantha poodoo is no joke!

I'd love if they added Mara Jade to the game, but seeing as they now have Jabba that might mean we may see some other commander type characters like Tarkin, Thrawn, Crix Madine, Ackbar, etc...

You don't know his baby dewback! Judge him by his size, do you? He could be a pitbull.

Who's going to be the first to run 4 Rancors in a casual game then?

Ugh. A female Mando? Really? And whose melee? They are supposed to be commandos. I blame Star Wars Minis, and then that horrible character in the Clone Wars, Pre Viszla and his stupid dark blade. It would have better if they discarded the Aqualish and made the mando the tank, employing gadgetry like flame throwers and net guns. A bulked up Mando would have been great. Sorry, I love the female characters in this game so far, but not this one.

A new X-Wing and Armada waves were announced with some pretty awesome stuff

As a side note, I can see X-Wing people getting a bit backhurt about their new wave. It's pretty arguable that it's 'awesome'. The Kylo shuttle is nice, but come on. A repainted TIE-Fighter based on one specific appearence in a kinda dumb plotline from Rebels and a ship that's seen literally in a couple of frames in TFA and it's not even flying. They're really starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel for content.

I fear that is going to start happening in IA too. Got to keep cranking out new product though. They could start being like D&D after this and just release new terrain tiles and scenarios. We don't need miniatures from every expansion.

Funny, I actually think she looks the coolest of the 3 new heroes.

I'm not bothered by it per se, but between this, the repainted Tie Fighter for X-Wing and her inclusion in the LCG, I'm starting to think someone at FFG has a real thing for Sabine.

She does look the coolest of the 3 heroes, which adds further sadness too it. I am happy to have a Rodian hero though. I played a Rodian for the entire run of Star Wars Galaxies.

It's not something you should fear to happen, it's inevitable. No matter how vast the franchise is, there's a finite amount of meaningful content to mine from Star Wars. Eventually they'll either run out of it or stop releasing new content.

But to be fair, I think we're still a long way away from that happening in Imperial Assault. There's still a lot of places you can go to with just OG Trilogy stuff, not to mention Rogue One or Rebels. It's also much less limited in scope than X-Wing, which can only do spaceship stuff and only a very specific subset of spaceship stuff at that.

It isn't so much that you can't find new characters to make miniatures of. Heck, Star Wars minis did like 600 different miniatures. It is how much you can do at this level of granularity without power creep kicking in. That's what I'm more afraid of. I hate to sound like a hippie, but it would be nice if I could use my figures for a long time. I fear soon we'll just have re-releases of the same characters who are more powerful. That was the vicious circle that was SWM. I used to love skirmish, but as you said, this turns the skirmish meta on its head, and this game lives by skirmish, not by campaign. I wish it was the other way around. Frankly I would rather they just end the OT stuff and just start over with the Prequel era. I don't want to see a bunch of units added, like jet troopers, that are just fillers because the company has to launch a certain number of miniatures per expansion. Where the heck did they get jet troopers from. They are basically making Arc troops for the OT era, and very disposable ones.

I swear to god if this rodian has Greedo references....

I think the Jet Trooper is more a reference to the Battlefront games, specifically the new one where they show up.

I don't have a problem with Jet Troopers thematically. Star Wars has an entire space-faring militant civilization that apparently has an old (and possibly age-old) tradition of flying around the battlefield on a jetpack. I don't think it's much a stretch to infer that the biggest and most powerful military-governed state in the galaxy looked at that at one point and said "Oh look, that's neat and it must work, since these guys are so good at military stuff, let's get in on some of that action".

OTOH, I have a problem with Jet Troopers on a game design level. They don't do anything new or interesting and don't offer any new gameplay strategies. They're just regular old Stormtroopers that don't hit as hard, but are kinda sorta a bit more maneuverable. Unless Elites come with something really off the wall, like Speed 5. But I doubt that.

Between Imps getting only two fairly uninteresting releases this wave and both of the other factions getting pieces that severly punish classic Trooper lists, I predict Imps going off the radar as far as competitive Skirmish is concerned, which is a bit sad.
