New maneuver is 1-Reverse... opens up new hijinks.

Block is stupid. Enforcing it as a proper mechanic by adding Barrel Roll to something that is going to be flat and stable as a Tugboat is retarded. Makes about as much sense as a ship with a Top mounted turret flipping over without any penalty to shooting or 2 IG-2000s doing sharp 1s into each other for a week to go nowhere in a game where one of the founding mechanics is "Always be moving forward".

to go nowhere in a game where one of the founding mechanics is "Always be moving forward".

And, frankly, never should have been. Since these are spaceships, not airplanes.

Arguing that something is "flat and stable" because it's a tug is applying too much logic. Aerodynamics doesn't apply to spaceships, because... well, the aero bit is a giveaway.

Blocking has been a core mechanic since wave 1. Swarms thrived on the ability to block at will. It's not new, nor does it need "Enforcing as a proper mechanic", because it was one of the first established offensive movement mechanics. Just because it's not "spacey" sounding that the ships bumped into each other.

If it's really a bugbear to your fun, explain it away as losing actions because they were aggressively diving or climbing the relative-Z axis to avoid collision. Simples.

a.) it's Star Wars

you can take your realism and stuff it. Cool rules here

b.) it's a game

Not just good at blocking. You could drop a debris field and then drop a mine or vice versa and then block the ship into said debris and mine. Plutt would add a tractor beam token, you could really stack some tokens. Experimental Interface on this guy is going to be rich. I hope the generic is 14 pts

Im gonna guess all 1 maneuvers, except 1 forward, will be backwards maneuvers. So full range 1 reverse,+ 1 forward.

The very fact that nobody questions space ships with 40s era aircraft flight characteristics, but will question bumping or flying over rocks never fails to amuse me. Logic has no place here.

I believe the word that everyone is looking for would be astrodynamics... If you want real pitch, roll etc. then it might be best to watch Apollo 13, or even a little Aliens, or even remember that when these ships go to land we do see some of these other thrusters in action. The basic idea that these ships that we play with have been created to do all those fancy moves without having to explain the astrodynamics of secondary, tertiary, rear, vectral, dorsal, etc. thrusters... mainly they make those really cool veeeeerm... sounds of a Tie and cool pew pew sounds as well. Just suspend believe and enjoy it all...

On the other hand I too am not a great lover of Blocking and Castling. I feel that it is like intentional fouling and letting the clock wind down or delay of game without penalty. I believe that the game should be played to the best of each players ability without using loopholes in rules to achieve an advantage... This being said I understand that is the world we live in, as sad as that may be, and to spend a lot of time whining about it is wasteful.

But seriously, head on blocking should have a possibility of damage. We have all seen blocking/bumping/rubbing in Nascar from the back and sides. Head on is like playing chicken... when they go to avert that is how they lose their action, but if they collide it should be more than a little scratching of paint.

Just my thoughts

P.S. on the Blocking and Castling bit. I do believe in fair play and winning because you outplayed your opponent. However, I am not the prim and proper "Good play old Chap!... Well played sir, well played." I will also not be the William Turner and say "You broke the rules of engagement" because I know the answer would "pirate" in a well duh tone. I would rather play a game and outplay you and not out "foul" you knowing I still have a stacked bench. If this is how the game will be played then that is how I will play it.

But if it could move backwards, wouldn't the speed be a negative number?

If you travel at 30mph backwards for an hour you'll still go 30 miles. Speed isn't a vector measurement.

Barrel Rolls make perfect sense for a slow ship like this. They are essentially just latteral movements and if you just look at it from a game mechanics point of view that slow slog left/right is similiar to that high speed pitch/roll that you are picturing for a typical BR.

I hope there is some kind of gearing.

Reverse 1 could be a white maneuver if last turn you did a 1-speed maneuver, but it is red if did anything faster.

I doubt this will be in as there are not currently any actions (beyond immediate stress) which relate to speed in the previous phase.

I'm going to buy it and convert it into Ben Quadinaros's BT310 Quadra-Podracer.

It shares many similarities... like blowing up before it starts.

I had reverse movement on my custom H-Wing design. It was so weird to play against.

Six speed ones? Troll left, troll right, sloop left, sloop right, and k turn. Plus the new reverse move.

I feel like predicting a dial....

straights and banks at speed 1 in reverse (all red)

full stop (red)

straights and banks at 1 (all green)

straights and banks at 2 (green), turns at 2 (white), segnors at 2 (red)

straights and banks at 3 (green straight, white banks)

maybe a 4 straight in white, if it has that then it'll also have a red k-turn at 4.

That's my call.

I thought I saw that too. Ship is probably super slow or blazing fast. Lots of speed 1, few 2s, maybe only straight 3 and 4 and 5. Something like that.

From the article...

"Finally, the expansion includes all the tokens you need to fly it to battle, plus a maneuver dial with no fewer than six different speed "1" maneuvers."

That's a lot of speed 1 moves, and you're right. There possibly could be backward moves.
