Wave 10 Artical is up

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

Not when the casual fans outweigh the hardcore fans by a large margin.

I have friends that play this all over the place not just in my area. All of us have 3-4 hardcore players that are super Starwars nuts, and like 30+ people that just like the game and/or like starwars but dont religiously follow it (like me)

And those hardcore ones are the reason X-Wing is where it is now, so they should be acknowledged.

you guys are really quick to assume that you yourself are a representative sample both of Star Wars fans and of X-Wing players. No, the Scurrg is not iconic to anyone who didn't grow up playing bad to mediocre video games. No, the gunboat is not iconic to people who didn't grow up playing a game from 1994. Yes, people actually are interested in Sabine's TIE and there are vastly more people who would recognize Sabine's ship than the Scurrg or the gunboat. Particularly among the set of active Star Wars fans , since Sabine's ride is from a going concern while the gunboat and Scurrg have been buried for quite a while.

I for one am only speaking for myself. I am disappointed in FFG's choice of Scum ship. Everybody else can think whatever they **** please about it,it's their right.

Also, it was Scurrg vs. Quadjumper, not Sabine's TIE.

Apart from that, I'm curious, does anyone feel Qusdjumper is in any way an iconic ship ?

no offense but thats not how business works.

Show me a company that got off the ground actually do something to cater to their original fanbase. Blizzard? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! ... GamesWorkshop? *falls on the floor* s..stop it youre killing me!!!

in all seriousness it boils down to which is easier for better profit. Reskinning a TIE is far easier than designing an in-scale ship that doesnt exist yet and finding a reason for it to exist when the faction already has 2 ordnance boats and they conflict with each other as it is.

Wait. Did some people honestly think we were going to get a Gunboat, N-1, and _________ (*insert whatever other rare, shunned, unheard of ship in the blank space*)?

Scum epic would have been nice but they may be saving that one for later.

I can't wait to get the Krylo shuttle so I can bump into all of the pieces on the board. LUVIN IT!

People hate me sometimes. :D

EDIT: Also, has anyone found any pictures on the ship Finn was about to get onto during the Maz part (the yellowish rusty one)? I wish I could see the rest of it. I was thinking FFG still has at least two scum ships that were in the ep VII (the other one being Guavian gang ship) that could still be put in the game.

I bet it becomes a more iconic ship soon.

Where on earth does this attitude come from?

Honestly, I only play this game because it's cheaper than most table-tops and I really enjoy turb-based squad strategy games. It could have any IP attached to it and I wouldn't really care. As long as the new ships are fun, I'll enjoy them no matter how "lame" they are in regards to their place in the SW universe.

At the expense of the bottom line?

Where on earth does this attitude come from?

Having an Iconic EU ship over the Quadjumper wouldn't hurt their bottom line, and if anything would help it. I'm not saying they should dedicate everything to those hardcore fans, just that they shouldn't be completely passed over.

Also for the record, I'm not even entirely against the quadjumper, I just acknowledge that there were better options.

I don't know if I agree with this. I got into this game because it was Star Wars with pre-painted miniatures without even knowing if the game was any good. I'll bet there are a lot of Star Wars fans that help make the game what it is today. More than a few have bought ships and have never played. I personally own enough should for far more than a 400 point Epic play for both sides and have never yet played Epic.

I'm sure hardcore players helped too but I doubt they alone are the reason X-Wing is where it is. Maybe, just maybe the Star Wars universe and Star Wars fans have contributed too.

As for me I've never heard of the Scurrg until today. I've never seen the T-wing or H-wing in any game that I've played. I can see the Quadjumper getting into the game just for the sake of the franchise. As for Sabine's TIE, well I thought it was a good episode and may get it just for the looks regardless of my personal thoughts on this wave.

this

i play 40k (orks and tau, large armies each), warzone, kings of war, warmahordes (sold those recently), xwing, and armada.

Xwing i got into last, and i was resisting because the other games ate my pocketbook as it is and i had so many things to paint i really didnt want more. But Xwing was cheap, way cheaper than i thought, and already painted. Ive spent not even a TENTH what i have on 40k and im not "done" buying 40k technically since im still missing a lot of gak, but all im missing for xwing are some repeats, rebel epics, and the few scum ships i didnt buy for cards yet.

Want an idea how much 40k i got? 8000pts of Tau and about that again in Orks. Bare in mind, theres 3 Ghostkeels, 3 Riptides, a Stormsurge, and a Ta'unar in the Tau army as well as a gakton of crisis suits. Those are NOT CHEAP lol

I am more of a startrek buff than starwars, only reason i didnt get into StarTrek Attack Wing is the insanely bad vibe i kept hearing about it, plus the models are gross. I almost wish xwing wasnt based on starwars even though i love flying the falcon because FALCON and no other reason just because then we could see and endless rush of creative gimicks and ship designs, while the xwing IP will HEAVILY limit that.

As far as Sabine's TIE, I'm all for that. I saw that episode, loved it, and was actually planning on repainting a TIE in those colors >.>;

So instead of doing something more iconic from the EU (like Nym's Scurrg) FFG and the Mouse chose a ship that just blew up while standing in a field...

Of course, an alternate way to look at it is this: "Instead of doing something that most people have never seen before, FFG chose a ship that's actually been on-screen in one of the movies."

The Scurrg isn't iconic to me. I was driven away from the EU by Kevin J. Andersen somewhere around two decades ago. (Having his books as the last impression of Star Wars prior to the Prequels may well be why I've never had nearly as much problem with the Prequels as other Star Wars fans do, come to think of it...)

iconic for who exactly?
Anyone that has a grip on the EU. Lets be honest, more people are interested in seeing old EU designs (like the gunboat or Avenger for instance) than seeing ships that appear in all of 3 seconds of screen time in a movie.

Im a hardcore star wars fan and Id never even heard of the havoc until it showed up in armada. And Im more interested in what they might do with the quadjumper than I am in having scum large base ship number 52. And again, speaking as a hardcore star wars fan and big in the EU: I couldnt care less if we wver get the gunboat or the avenger. There ARE eu ships I wont, but some of us dont feel fhe need to go into every single thread begging for or whining about the lack of certain ships

Agreed. Plenty of people were asking for both the upsilon (especially) ad to a lesser extent sabines tie before the announcement. Im perfectly happy with both, for all thag Im mostly a scum player. More excited for those than i am for the arc or tie/sf. And the quadjumper was the obvious pick for scum, and looks like it could be an interesting choice mechanically

see? SEE? this is what i was saying. FFG saw people wanted that tie and since its just a recolor why the hell wouldnt they just make it official?

Zeb and Sabine are going to have the same skill they had in the shuttle (can even see the Wh.... followed by a crit sign on zeb's card). There was very little design they had to put into this expansion to get an extra influx of profit.

Gunboat requires much more and would be the same amount of income. Work smarter not harder and you will make profit!

And the quadjumper was the obvious pick for scum

Yeah, no.

I thought the shark was far away, but man did they clear it with a clean jump.

I'll buy the Upisilon though, it excites me being an iconic ship from TFA, and I can see a Stress Arc making good friends with a Tie w/ Slicer tools.

I was never talking about the TIE though, was just misinterpreted.

I agree with both of the above statements.

[Edit well, for me at least, I'm more excited about the ARC and TIE S/F. But that is just what I am fond of as a fan.]

Which Rule of Acquisition is that last sentence?

For whom is the Quadjumper iconic and why ? I'm genuinely curious.

Rebel TIE fighter (with Sabine crew) dropping bombs. May not be optimized, but sounds fun!

Quadjumper seems like a solid utility ship. I'm hoping the PS1 base ship will be 14pts, but I strongly suspect that it will be 15pts (which it absolutely won't be worth, naked, but they can potentially justify it thanks to all the upgrade slots).

One of those PS1 guys with an Intel Agent can make for a reasonably cheap blocker (I also get the feeling that's what Sabine is for, so good on FFG for trying to make blocking more important as an anti-ace counter measure). With Weapons Guidance, the ship is fairly accurate fodder that's a solid addition against big ships and non-aces. Of course, black market slicer will mean it's got something to do against aces, also.

If it clocks in at 15pts, you can load the PS1 model up with Weapons Guidance for accuracy, Slicers and Intel agent against aces, and it won't be dead in any match-up.

Honestly, you could run 5 of these bad boys with like, 2 intel agents and 3 tacticians and between the blocking, the slicing, and the accurate attacks, you'd have game against whatever you were fighting (spare points for a seismic charge or two) ...well, not Dengaroo, 'cause that can block your two attack dice while being blocked and stressed, because "who needs actions?". Good times.

He's referring to an ARC-170 set up to deal stress being paired with a Sabine's Tie running Slicer tools.

Personally, I'll agree that the wave feels a little... light... but Kylo's shuttle looks legit (Imps getting Coordinate is legit bonkers), Sabine's Tie is at least a fun option, and the Quadjumper looks to be at least interesting.

I'm not super-hype for it, but I'll at least give it the benefit of the doubt and see the cards and dials before deciding where I stand. I mean look at how many people were upset at the Shadow Caster when it was announced.
