Wave 5

By Cubanboy, in Star Wars: Armada

I think I might know what snipe is.

Instead of normal squad attack you may shoot at a squad at distance 2 with a reduced armament.

Mini IG88s

Not my favorite Wave.

I am not into the Rebels stuff and would have liked other captial ships better. Not too bad although.

The Fighters.... okay we knew Ghost had to come out. Good to see the Z-95. I hope the E-Wing doesnt ruin the "Rebellion" not feeling.

Good to see Lambdas, Defenders and Phantoms. But I am missing XG-1 Gunboats and Avengers.

I think X wings will (should) retain their place because at only 5 hull E wings will be too expensive for mass dogfighting.

Cool that Rebels get a rogue bomber now too, although with only 4 hull it will need looking after.

Not my favorite Wave.

That is how I think they work.

I think the Rebel answer to Rhymer. Or at least by design.

Edit: (I'm talking about Snipe)

I am happy to see the Rebels ships. The show has really captured the old feel of Star Wars for me. Plus I know where to look for further releases lol.

Based only on the article I think the latter will be way too overpowered.

Why don't you trust that FFG knows what they're doing in the balance department? Crying "OP!" even before we know how much the Phoenix Home will be point costed at sounds like you might have more of a predisposition to this sort of thing, rather than a solid analysis to base your fears on.Mo

Come on, man, have a little faith.

Yeah dude. FFG has demonstrated to me for many years that they're capable of careful and precise balance, many times in subtle ways that add to the game rather than a blanket FAQ or errata.

Nice Sarcasm but so far for Armada it has been done pretty good

Not sarcastic at all :P

A few blunders here and there in the X-Wing design stages, but overall, it's still incredible compared to GW. FFG so far has the best balance out of any minis game that I've played in the last 17 years.

And while the wave 5 capital ships are not the worst, I would have liked Lancers, Escort carriers, Mk I Assualt frigates, Dreadnoughts, Carracks, and Strike Cruisers better.

Not to burst any bubbles but Armada (FFG) will be bringing in Canon ships before EU ships. So don't expect a lot of EU stuff for now I believe. So love or hate the show Rebels but it's Canon and Lucas Film's new child, so FFG will be obligated to keep up with it. (That and the designs of the ships are very very Star Wars.)

I skip reading this board for a few days and ouch!, FFG launch a surprise-attack on my wallet! :) This was a great surprise. Two nice new ships, Z-95s, Lambda shuttles and more! Glad I didn't go wild at yesterday's local comic-con. "More incoming ships detected. Divert all resources to fleet-buidling".

There is a good scenario for the Arquitens in Chapter 1 of the novel "Star Wars: Moving Target":

Post-Hoth, a Rebel convoy is attacked by 3 Arquitens crusiers + TIE fighters. The Rebel fleet is transitting a rubble-strewn part of an unnamed system and consists of the Nebulon-B frigate Remembrance, 4 corvettes, 2 transports and some X-Wing fighters. Their primary mission is to protect Princess Leia, who is aboard the Remembrance. The engagment ends with the Rebels makign an emergency jump to hyperspace, with damage to the frigate and the loss of the corvette Ranolfo.

I know that (although we already got a bunch of uncanon stuff) and surley dont hate Rebels. I just think that this decision is not the best and I would liked another path better.

I also dont agree with the notion, that every Imperial ships has to be a "wedge" if you mean that. Its unfitting to Star Wars and is a gross oversimplification.

I disagree with almost everything you said. For the most part the legends stuff we have was either planned designed (not released) before Lucas Film announced the EU wipe or put in to fill a gap that there just wasn't a canon equivalent to at the time.

Drawing from Rebels is great as they have a lot of capital ships and would get people more excited than releasing an EU ship that is hit or miss. I know a lot of people love the Lancer and the dreadnaught but I personally hate those designs, even when they came out in the 90's I thought they spat in the face of the imperial design ethos, I love that the new Imperial ships all look like they were designed by the same company group, this is more like real world ship/aircraft design in that if you know what you are looking at you can tell what country or even what company if you are real good designed an aircraft or ship.

Many of the now legends ships can still be proxied if your willing to go for a 3D printed model. Raider can be a lancer, the Arquitens can be a carrack, dreadnaught as a VSD. I use my Nebulon-B2 as a GSD.

I don't know if I missed someone else pointing this out, but does it look to anyone else like pheonix home might allow for a second officer slot?

That could be very interesting, given the quality options out there.

Some one did. The question is, what Officers are there that we could use? Raymus and Tallon?

What "Imperial Design Ethos"? The Imperium isnt building or designing this ships! The Imperium was never in total controll of the economy and didnt even wanted to.

Making everything look the same is a "spat in the face" that Star Wars is taking place in a economic plausible and diverse galaxy. Lancers, Carracks and Dreadougt make sense. Why should different companies design their ships the same again and again? Sure the the "wedge" is not the silliest form for a spaceship, but also not the best. I makes more sense to alter the form to the purpose of the ship.

Our real world ships look so simliar because they have to adapat to the environment they are meant to operate in! Same for aircrafts which are already more diverse. Their form follows function! And in the real world you can`t look at two items (tanks, aircraft, guns) from different companies and tell which country it belongs to. The whole comparison is of because unlike Star Wars which is immense huge, our world is so tiny that most successful items are use by dozends of countries.

On top of that: What is the Imperial design ethos you speak of? The wedge? Wait... no that was already around in the old republic. And is the Imperium really so stupid to demand from their ship builders to follwo their CI instead of their function?

Keeping everything Imperial in a "wedge" is just appeasing fans, that like a shallow universe whith clear borders and factions. I for myself love the Nebulon-B and all it stands for.

Well its a command ship, and the "fleet command" cards look like they interact with command tokens. So in the absence of any new officers that help neighbouring ships, I think Raymus and other token boosting or command manipulating cards are probably the expectation.

Toryn?

Does anyone have a theory as to why the light cruiser is shown with three shields front and side? Mistake or an upgrade?

Does anyone have a theory as to why the light cruiser is shown with three shields front and side? Mistake or an upgrade?

Now that would be an interesting modification upgrade card. Increased shield capacity. Why not? It's not like the space whale doesn't have enough shields to make it too hard to blow up.

While we've been speculating about an upgrade like that for quite some time, I'm pretty sure it's just an error.
