Armada is so dead right now, right?
Nice product again, going to buy 2 of each box for this wave.
My only worry is that they are releasing content too quickly for me to keep up. How times change, eh?
Yeah...so dead. I wish Nelson was here to see this. The end is nigh.
the truth is as new sets come out things like the Tie/Ln are not going to stand-up to the new squadron
now the point I was making was from shmitty talk with FFG "the expansion as a way to revitalize the original Wave 1 squadrons and give them new options. He mentioned the similarity to the X-Wing Aces packs."
and since some of the squadrons (Rogue Squadron, Black Squadron) seem to be basic squadrons with added abilities this seems to be an attempt to make squadrons that have fallen out of use more appealing
In my area, X-wings never fell out of favor. They are still the go-to fighter for rebels. Armada made the X-wing just what is should be. A durable superiority fighter that can double as a light bomber. They do this very well IMO, 4AS, 5Hull, bomber, escort. Even the new fighters are not going to be able to ignore them.
Yes E-wings might do superiority better, B-wing are better bombers, etc...but all for a price.
Edited by Salted DiamondJust looked at the models at the FFG both. Wow these look great. The Phoenix/Pelta is barely within the bounds of a small ship scale and the Arquitens is a real departure from the standard Imperial look despite still being a bunch of rideable. The Imperial squadrons in particular look outstanding.

Thats because the Arquitens is a surplus Republic navy ship from the clone wars, so is the Pelta for that matter

Oh he sees it and gnashes his teeth and abuses those of us he can through social media and youtube.

I am having this discussion with some on facebook who play X-Wing a bit too much and like to categorize ships like you have tenchi2a. I don't agree with this ideology actually, people are struggling to find uses for each squadron and that happens but what happens very little is that they don't adjust the mindset that they have given each ship.
Back in wave 1, the A-Wing was in the place of what the YT-2400 does now, a all round speedster who has a black die for its battery armament. They used it as a anti-ship unit even though it lacked bomber because of the black die. It worked and that is how someone won worlds and IceQube want US Nationals. Even so, the A-Wing and YT-2400 have more roles they can play just like the TIE/LN.
The TIE/LN has ALWAYS been a squadron that needs to gang up on things, it is not meant to take hits because it will die (like it should in X-Wing). These are new pilots who are still green and are not usually qualified for much other that the LN. The TIE/LN wants to get the jump on an opponent every time, it is like a swarm of Termagaunts from 40k, they are great in large numbers but once those numbers get whittled away they get weaker and weaker. That is fine for 8 points I think. I think the Z-95 will be 7-9 points and have more blue dice to make up for its lack of speed but that is just a comparison.
Sure there will be better squadrons, that is how it works in war. Better and better things get built. However it is up to you to play them and make them good for your use. Mikael has been running a "No demolisher, No Rhymer" list with Rader's Gladiator's and TIE/LN's and he does fine with it.
It can be done but if you despair and give up then it will never change.
Have pics, Internet here is garbage
Surely there will be some sort of upgrade that lets you apply Fleet Command upgrades to the MC80? I'm sure Phoenix Home didn't stay the flag ship for the whole rebellion?
Someone doesn't watch "Rebels", I take it ![]()

Don't take my commit the wrong way I'm in no way getting down on the game.
its just I have played way to many games where the company has gone down the each release is better the the last road leading to unused minis.
the commit you quote was me being happy that FFG seems to be working to keep all waves competitive.

Ah, sorry about that. So many people get down on the TIE/LN and the VSD as well as some other ships but to me, everything is relevant since nothing is "better" than another. It is all based on strategic choices and tactical decisions.
Given the few squadron spoilers we have seen are for extremely expensive character ace squadrons, it stands to reason that the generics (and some of the others) are also likely quite expensive. For some fleet builds that could work out all right, but in general it's difficult to spam the expensive squadrons without some kind of gimmick to keep it going (see: the Fireball wave 2, which worked great before people learned you need some kind of serious anti-squadron plan beyond "4 A-Wings."). A number of the squadrons seem to have abilities that benefit other squadrons or benefit from other squadrons being around to help them (Intel, one would assume a TIE Advanced Escort for the Phantoms to hide behind would be quite welcome). I'm expecting the TIE Defender to be fantastically expensive, which is appropriate both fluff-wise (the TIE Defender was the over-engineered resource-inefficient Imperial stand-in for the King Tiger tank) and for what I expect the stats to work out to, but it should finally provide an option for Imperial admirals who just could never warm up to the basic TIE Fighter but want a more durable TIE to do their squadron work (I am not amongst them).
TL;DR version: I expect the raw points cost of the newer squadrons will provide a disincentive towards spamming them over earlier choices. With flotillas around nowadays to really help push the wave 1 guys around, they're still very cost-effective at getting their job done.
I just read that entire thread and my entire week is better now. Thank you.

Oh!
IFF should do a 'Come on Madine' song (here's the original on Youtube)
As I see it, the rebels get a huge boost with both the fighter pack and the Phoenix Home. Based only on the article I think the latter will be way too overpowered. On the other hand the ILC seems like giving some versatility to the Imperial fleet even though it does not adds so much firepower. I also like Jerjerrod. Also I love the new Imperial fighter squadrons. All of them!
One thing I do NOT like however is that these models look waaaaaaay too cartoonish compared to the previous expansion models. I may even risk that third party models of the ILC look better...
Also it is historically correct in the EU that E-Wings were on paper all-over siuperior to X-Wings but in actual combat the X-Wing simply turned out to be a better craft and the E-Wing was silently dropped.

I agree with you but I think it might be contributed to the fact that the pictures they released are CGI models and not actual pictures. I am hoping this is the case as they did look very "cartoony"

I think both ships looks great. Reports from people at Gencon seem to be very positive, they look really nice in the case.
As for the E-Wing, you are right, but you are referring to the Old Expanded Universe, or legends as it is known now. I have not read all the new books, but the ones I have read so far have not reference the E-Wing....so who knows what it is like now.

They might re-introduce the E-wing into Canon but who knows. The Resistance is Flying T-70 X-Wings (newer than the ones in the OT but still considered old by the time of the ST.)
In the Newest novel "life Debt" They introduced the first warship designed and built by the New Republic so it is possible they would try to introduce a new fighter as well.
I like that the E-Wing, a fictional fighter introduced in 1991 is pretty much a dead ringer for the real life F-35.

Why don't you trust that FFG knows what they're doing in the balance department? Crying "OP!" even before we know how much the Phoenix Home will be point costed at sounds like you might have more of a predisposition to this sort of thing, rather than a solid analysis to base your fears on.Mo
Come on, man, have a little faith.

Yeah dude. FFG has demonstrated to me for many years that they're capable of careful and precise balance, many times in subtle ways that add to the game rather than a blanket FAQ or errata.

Nice Sarcasm but so far for Armada it has been done pretty good
I'm not sure he was being sarcastic.
I like the idea of more uniques in the game, feels more like there's a story going on while you're playing. The Black and Rogue squadrons in Corellian Conflict are a great addition since they're only a tiny bit more than the generics. I hope wave 5 does more of that.

X-Wing. . .
