The best character?

By Rogue30, in Star Wars: Destiny

So, we know the mechanic and have seen some cards. Is it obvious that Vader and Luke are the best? Or maybe the game is so good that in the future character like Jabba or Jango will prevail? What do you think? Will almost any character be playable? Or maybe just few of them? That would be a failure.

One of my favorite aspects of this type of point system, is that While Vader may be the most clearly powerful card, You get to make arguments about what is better.

Is 2 Dice Vader better than 3 First order Troopers? Both cost 21 points, but the Troopers have more Dice but Vader's Dice are better and he sticks around a little longer than any given trooper BLah Blah around and around.

For my Value, I love 1 die Finn for 10 pts. The ability to take the best Villian Red equipment and vehicles is going to be an ability that gives Finn longevity, even as power levels and synergies creep. Does that mean he can use an AT-ST? Does that mean he and Chewbacca are gonna be an awesome theme deck? Can Finn, Han and Chewie fit in the same deck? Sooo many questions.

****, Netace. Now I wanna play even more!

BTW Why Jango is so costly? What am I missing? After claim obviously but what else?

IMO Vader is good but not necessarily the best, now no full card list yet but in this game a chose discard is not the end of the world, most of the time, because regardless next turn you get your full hand back, which unlike MTG means discarding can be a problem but it is not nearly as "good"?! I may be wrong due to no game experience but that is MO right now anyway. I personally like Jango Fett, granted he doesn't do a lot of damage, but activating a char action free seems good to me.

Where did you see his cost?

He was one of the spoiled cards in this announcement article. Fett Cossts 12/16. Considering that his ability to activate as a reaction to your opponent activating a character, Jango Fett represents an action advantage. As discussed in the Team Covenant video, this is a game about timing. Being able to add some extra options to that timing can be really stellar, and the designers are clearly valuing that option highly.

What does Vader do?

After you activate this character you may force an opponent to choose and discard a card from their hand.

Wow! I read that article half a dozen times and never noticed the link for Jango or Leia!

He is so costly because of a lot of things.

1) He basically is a free action on your opponent's turn. Having available dice is pretty important in this game

2) He is consistent. 3 of the 6 sides produce damage. So on average he will have some kind of damage available every round

3) Since you already rolled your dice for free you could easily poke away at enemy characters and you're ahead of the action curve by +1.

4) He is flexible with the type of damage he deals. Having both melee and ranged gives him access to modifier dice not many other cards can access.

Just to spend a thought or two for Vader, I think one die Vaer is going to be a lot more popular because16 pts leaves 14 points to be used to get some interesting ideas flowing. Such as Two die Kylo Ren. How's that for a nice theme? Maybe a little restrictive with only blue cards to work with but still.

Well, I'm not sure who the best character is, but I'm excited to start building teams. I was hoping to do a Dooku/Jango team, and now I have the info to do it! Still not sure if it's better with Dooku at 2 dice or Jango. Trouble is, you really want some sort of recursion ability in the deck if you're using Dooku, so Jango may not be the best. But hey! The theme is great!

My favorite Team-up that I see theme wise (so far) is 2 Dice Leia (16 pts) with 2 Dice Ackbar (14 pts. See announcement vid at 0:33). TONs of Dice manipulation in that pair up. You can generate a lot of resource and a lot of flexibility with that pair. Not much starting damage on the board, but it should give you a chance the play a bunch of cards out the gate. And four dice as a start seems pretty ok. Leia has 3 Damage sides to her dice, so you have some pretty reliable dmg from her., and Ackbar has a 2 Focus side, so he has a good chance of just Fixing 2 dice to something you want right now.

Looks interesting! Four dice would be pretty neat to have right out the gate. But you'd really need some good support cards, like the Millennium Falcon , to get some damage in, don't you think? Does the Millennium Falcon need to be spotted? I don't fully understand the spotting rules. But if you can't include that ship, at least you could put some red blasters in there to give Leia and Ackbar some more fighting prowess.

You have it right in one sir! I am relying on getting quality supports and upgrades out quickly to improve the damage potential of those Characters. I am not sure if the Falcon is available to that duo or not, but I have confidence that upgrades like Thermal Detonator, Promotion, the Blasters and such, should be solid, with a suite of support actions to go with.

Not sure what you mean by spotted, but yeah, you cannot take Falcon, you need at least one yellow character for that.

Spot means you have to have a character of a certain color. I don't see any restrictions on the Falcon.

Spotting has to do with things in play and it's worded on the card that you need to "Spot" a character card of a certain color to even play it.

You can only put cards in your deck that are neutral or match the color(s) of your characters at the start of the game, Finn being the only example so far that allows you to circumvent that rule.

So even though the Falon doesn't require you spot anything to play it, you can't even put it in a deck without also having a Yellow character in your team.

Is Mon Mothma confirmed yet?

Is Mon Mothma confirmed yet?

She's not in it. The was a card list posted to this twitter feed:

It's buried a bit now by all the stuff they've done at GenCon today.

Yap i must have skimmed over that part of the rules.
