Available Lightsaber Mods

By Apollos, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hey all, new poster here, as I've been looking over people's character builds I've noticed that there seem to be differing opinions on what mods can be applied to a lightsaber. Ignoring crystals, I had assumed that the only mods available were those specifically called out for lightsabers, or those that thematically made sense for them (like the Magnetic Weapon Tether from Keeping the Peace), but I've seen builds using Balanced Hilt, which can be applied to "any bladed weapon" (from the Age of Rebellion core rulebook) and a Shaped Nozzle (I have no idea where this is from).

Is there any comprehensive list of the various mods that can be applied to a lightsaber? Or has there been a ruling on what mods can be applied, and what can't?

I just look at what the attachments are restricted too, and work from there. Things like paired weapons and the shadowsheath have a wide range of applications, while others have a very particular set of applications. I just use common sense and fair judgment. Personally ruling on the balanced hilt would be "no." The shaped nozzle is particular to one specific weapon from Special Modifications, so that would be a "no."

The way I look at it is this: the attachments listed as "Lightsaber Attachments" con only be used for Lightsabers. Other attachments can be used on any weapon it says it applies to, potentially including Lightsabers as well.

I would second that neither the Balanced Hilt nor the Shaped Nozzle would be appropriate for a lightsaber, though.

I tend to agree with BB888 and Absol.

In many cases, a weapon attachment will specify if it's limited to a certain category of weapon in the paragraph just above the mechanical crunch of the attachment, such as the Forearm Grip being restricted to blaster rifles and blaster carbines.

In the case of Balanced Hilt, the intent was that it balances the weapon based upon the entirety of it, physical blade included. For lightsabers, there's really not much of a blade, with all the weight being in the hilt. But something like the custom grip (Special Modifications) would be applicable, since it doesn't have any kind of weapon restriction, so adding it to a lightsaber is perfectly legal.
