Forged in Battle - quick review

By ApocalypseZero, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

I don'see the problem with posting the picture of the species, it's not a violation of anythkng as the book is already out and bought by the user. Besides it's art, not rules or anything.

So i too would like to see the art of the new species. The nzmes don't say much to me.

Also a couple pictures are quite bad, so much you can't read anything.Would you mind redoing them ApocalypseZero?

RANT ALERT

As has been said, I'm not going to post pics galore of the book. I posted a lot of info that could be used as is and I don't want no one having no need to buy the book. That's not what I'm here for. Asking for pics of Art is a big no-no with me. These writers and artists are friends of mine. I'm not going to do things that'd pull money from their pockets. This is a review, a spoiler. I posted many pics and I'm happy to say that without the book, the pics won't help much. (Save for Species) You have an inside look at the book. If what I showed gives you interest, buy the book. If you are confused at what something is; use this tool of the internet to find out. Wookiepedia is your friend. But this is all the pics I'm doing anymore. If this upsets you that's something you need to think about.

END RANT

I hope I've answered everyone's questions on the book. I've always considered Career Books to be a "Must Buy", simply for the game expansion it provides. And while the weapons may feel a bit over the top, they are expected for those assaulting AT-AT's and such. As a GM, I just know players will want to turn it on some man-sized targets.

If there is anything else I can help shed light on, please ask. Otherwise, I hope you found your answers and that you pick up this book.

As for the pic size/quality, I'm doing it with my phone. At a desktop, I can zoom and see things clearly. If you are trying to access with a phone, I don't know what can help you there.

Hey bud,

I appreciate that you've given us a sneak peak at all. I Totally respect you for being aware of the impact oversharing info can have.

My apologies, il but I'm not seeing the images of the signature abilities in your drop box.

Clearly it's your prerogative whether you want to share them or not, but your previous post lead me to believe you had, so I wanted to make sure I'm looking in the right place.

All I know is, thanks to this sourcebook, I can finally properly recreate my Trooper character from TOR if I ever get the chance.

Does the bigger they are signature make an exception for armor with the cortosis quality (which ignores breach and pierce)? If not it's the persecution way to kill Travis mandalorians

Bigger they are ignores soak entirely its not breach or pierce and cortosis gives no protection against something that can be used to blow up an AT-AT with a blaster pistol if you crit hard enough. Be very afraid of dudes with it and a Disruptor rifle from the book.

Should be the last Two Pics in the folder. Not super-intuitive with Google Drive, so maybe I need to activate something? (It does say Shared when I click on them.) Anyone else having this issue?

Yes, I really feel the Republic Trooper or the Clone Troopers/Commandos will be easily recreated now.

Hmm...using the same link from before (back on page 4), I'm still not seeing them. I'm horrible with computers though, so it may be PEBCAK (or PEBCAP, in my case).

Nice Vehicle array. I guess you are doing the ship list later?

Updated the link, but let's try this....

That's the full list. The Ships are all Transports.

Thanks so much!

...Wow, those are beastly Signature Abilities. Very fitting for a soldier!

They didn't even include the Acclamators or any other large assault ships? :(

I saw storm commando armor? Did they stat Storm Commandos as adversaries?

They gotta save some content for the FaD line chummer!

I doubt it, but the stats for the Storm commandos can be found in the AoR Beta. Oggdude's character generator has the stats loaded into it.

Can someone explain to me why characters may want to build a Fortification? It appears that these fortifications are built quickly (read: not a starting option, not like a business/homestead) with limited supplies, to provide defensive cover foremost. Is this a correct assumption?

Well, if you know that an Imperial attack is imminent and you need to prepare for it as best you can, then building fortifications is a must. Came up in my last AoR session, in fact. The players were extracting a valuable piece of tech from a downed cruiser and had to hold their position until pickup arrived.

Even without an imminent attack, fortifying a position might be an objective in and of itself. Perhaps the Alliance is planning an offensive and wants a fallback position/staging ground ready. Maybe a planet wants the Rebels to loan them experts in building fortifications (i.e. the PCs) to shore up their defenses against a hypothetical attack before they will join the Alliance. The players might just want some extra security around their own base to give them more time to evacuate in the event that the Empire discovers it.

In particular, I imagine the blind is something a trailblazer or survivalist would set up to aid in scouting an enemy force regardless of if an attack was planned. A covert group might be tasked with setting up a blind within enemy territory to observe their patrols and numbers, report on the size of forces dispatched on missions, or even launch a raid while other allies draw off the enemy.

Thanks. I think I miswrote my intended question: What statistical/crunch value is having a fortification? I presume these may be temporary? In other words, what's the difference between these new rules, and players wanting to build a duck blind ad hoc?

I don't have the book yet, but judging by the benefits you can apply with advantage/triumph when building one that Apocalypse Zero posted, it looks like they provide cover, potentially have armor to be difficult to destroy, and may have useful features like camouflage (the blind likely provides a specific bonus to stealth checks) or weapon turrets. So from a mechanical standpoint, I would imagine that fighting in a trench provides you with better cover or side benefits relative to just taking cover behind a rock, and a bunker might have a high-powered weapon turret already set up and ready to go for the players.

Man, I love this book already. Trailblazer looks perfect for my Mandalorian Bounty Hunter, and I suppose it'll suffice as a suitable 'manhunter' specialization until we get the Bounty Hunter book.

The Survivalist under Bounty Hunter doesn't work? I've always seen that combined with Gadgeteer to produce Pseudo-Fetts.

Oh, for sure. My specific character was a guerilla commando on Mandalore before he became a Bounty Hunter, so the nuances in Trailblazer mesh better with his backstory.

It could have crunch effects on Mass Combat rolls too, affecting the dice pool buy boosting one sides size or equipment values.
