Forged in Battle - quick review

By ApocalypseZero, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Part of me wonders if they actually mean Initiative (using survival instead of vigilance or cool) or if they mean recovering strain you can use survival (instead of discipline or cool).

In another words Initiative could be the error and not discipline.

It's less likely they mean for recovering strain, but I'm curious.

Possible, but less likely I should think, given how it's phrased, compared to other instances where strain recovery is mentioned. Either way it feels a little sloppy.

It just feels strange. In fact, so does the jumping Kyuzo. It feels very overpowered for a special ability. The digging Elom is also a bit weird. Not overpowered, just strange.

Anyone notice the text for the Shistavanen where it says they can use Survival for Initiative instead of a Discipline or a Cool check?

Meant for Ambushes, where Discipline or Cool can be used for Initiative.

Hm. Did I miss that rule somewhere? I've been having my players roll Cool in an ambush. Where does it say you can use Discipline?

As written they use survival for Initiative period end of story.

There is a talent in Trailblazers and hermits that lets you use survival to recover strain in wilderness settings.

The only thing worse would be if Shistavanen had 3 cunning instead of intellect like they should.

Me personally, I put Improved Body Guard in where the Enduring rank is and move Enduring down to replace the bottom-tier Barrage in the Bodyguard spec.

Why would someone literally called a Bodyguard not be able to take a bullet for their client?

Not only that, but even specs that don't have a bodyguard RP focus make better bodyguards than Bodyguard, like Instructor. I think Bodyguard could use a 2nd edition RAW revision.

You can probably cut both Enduring and the third rank of Barrage for Improved and Supreme Body Guard.

Well.. Glad to see a concussion rifle in the game, though aesthetically, I prefer the Stouker or Sissk to the LJ-50, but I'll take what I can get.

Love the Kyuzo and Shistavanen. I guess the survival for initiative represents heightened senses.

Under the Kyuzo war shield, what is the last word in the qualities? Discus?

I know Ryan Brooks and myself talked at length about how to represent that Captain America style shield throwing that Embo engages in, and make sure the things he does in The Clone Wars are at least possible in game when it came to the hat/shield thing.

Its disorient probablly disorient 1.

Suprised nobody has complained about the grenade launching pistol that holds 3 free encumberance grenades.

Can someone list the ships and vehicles in the thread please? I tried ApocalypseZero's link but when I viewed the images the text was too small to read.

Actually, in comparison to the rest, the Elomin don't look that bad. They're not zabrak, but they're not hideous either.

It doesn't help that the one I saw from the book looks like he's been huffing crystal meth for the past 20 years...

Interesting, though I suspect that, along with other weapons, the devil is in the long description.

I've got some splaining to do though, I have that weapon in my current campaign, though I statted it quite differently...

I didn't take pics of the vehicles because I might as well then just picture out the whole book. There are a lot of vehicles, mostly focusing on Troop Transports, the the LAATs and the Imperial Troop Transport. I'll try to get a list of the vehicles, but I'm also a busy guy who doesn't have his books around when he's not busy.

Is that the speeder-style stormtrooper transport seen in Rebels, or the drop-ship style one seen in The Force Awakens? Any chance this book has correct stats for the Sentinel Landing Craft?

The LAAT IS from Episode 2. The imperial troop transport is from Rebels.

So, I guess, ask away?

So what do the two sig abilities actually do. More details, man! MOAR!

Any chance they give pay rates for Rebel soldiers?

Pay rates? Ha! We only compensate you in medals, scar tissue, and a plot of dirt if there's big enough parts left to bury. If you wanted to get paid you shoulda gone to work for the Corporate Sector.

The Bigger They Are.....

Allows one to Ignore the Armor or Soak of a Target Silhouette 2 or less for three rounds. Options include: +2 Rounds (5 total), +1 Silhouette (Sil 4 Max), Destiny Point reduction (standard), 4 others I'll have to look up...

Unmatched Courage

Allows one to ignore Critical Effects until after 3 rounds. Options include: +2 Rounds (5 total), Destiny Point Reduction (standard), Ignoring Wounds (still generates Crits if Wounds go below 0), and the big one, when the Abilities ends, make a check (Resilience I think) and heal Critical Injuries equal to the number of Triumphs rolled. (So, if you take 4 Crits, but one of them is the "Instant Dead", you can heal that and still live).

I plan on taking pics and adding them soon. (Next day or two)

Those are incredible! Thanks for sharing!

Do you also happen to remember/know what the Soldier backgrounds are, and what the new block of motivations are?

Does the bigger they are signature make an exception for armor with the cortosis quality (which ignores breach and pierce)? If not it's the persecution way to kill Travis mandalorians

While you're taking pictures I'm kinda curious about the art they did for the 4 species presented in the book. If you get a chance snap a shot of them please :)

Also .... does it discuss enlisted ranks or rank structure?

I think that ApocalypseZero has been more than generous with posting pictures from the book and has already posted more than I would have been comfortable with posting so I would advise we don't rock the boat with ffg anymore (to avoid prompting a change to their lenient policy of sharing info about new products) P.S. i'm comfortable with specs and maybe 3 side bar boxes and typed descriptionso of the rest
