Squadron attacks and damage

By Norell, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I need someone to confirm me this:

1) When a squadron is attacked, only hit icons count toward the damage, even if it was attacked by another squadron. However, if the defender is an elite squadron and thus has defense tokens, and if the attacker rolled say one accuracy and three damage, the attacker can block the use of one defense token and deal the damage as well.

2) If a squadron attacks a ship and it rolls a critical the ship suffers no critical damage even if its shields are down (Why is this anyway? Why can't a precision squadron strike cripple a capital ship?). But if the squadron rolls an accuracy and a damage or critical it can block the use of one of the ships defense tokens and deal the damage.

3) Based on 2), if a ship uses a squadron command dial and more than one squadrons attack the same capital ship, does it count as as several separate attacks? So if one squadron blocks a defense token with its attack, then the strike of the next squadron's attack can be compensated by the said token. Or do they count as one attack and therefor if one defense token is blocked it is blocked during the whole squadron activation (but logically that would mean that the total squadron damage could be halved by a brace token)? Same goes to a defending elite squadron.

1. Yes, accuracies can be spent by/against squadrons.

2. Squadrons with the Bomber keyword (TIE Bomber, X-wing etc.) add crit icons to total damage AND can resolve crits. Other squadrons can't (presumably because they lack proton torpedoes or whatnot). All squadrons can use accuracies against ships, but its only relevant if they have more than one anti-ship dice (B-wing, Scurrg, Firespray, Han Solo etc.)

3. Yes. Each squadron is a separate attack. Thus squadrons are a great way to whittle down ships, before the commanding ship blasts away with its batteries. Defending elite squadrons are no different.

1) Correct.

2) Squadrons do not count Criticals as Damage as a Base Rule... However , Bomber modifies this. You are correct with the Second point, if it has bomber. Otherwise, it would need an Acc and a Hit to negate a defense token and deal damage.

3) Every Squadron is activated independently, one at a time... You completely resolve each Squadron's activation (Shoot + Move, or Move+Shoot) before moving to the Next Squadron... Defense Tokens spend or utilised on that squadron are used only on that individual squadron.

There is also the one exception to 1. That is Vader who always counts critical hits, but only as hits.

(Exception to 2), Yes, Vader specifies that you count Crit symbols as damage.

But he does not let you count them as Critical Hits to resolve a critcal effect...

The rumour is Shara Bey will also count Crit symbols as damage, but only during a counter attack.
