Yet another Palp/Fel list...

By JasonCole, in X-Wing Squad Lists

/yawn. Anyway, critiques are welcome and wanted. I've never actually used Palp too much, and until this list, played Fel maybe 3 times. I've been running a fairly potent Deathrain/RAC build, but I wanted to branch out a little. I've run it 4 times now, and I'm 3/4 with it, and I feel like it may improve even more once I get used to Fel's quirks.

FEL'S WRATH

99 points

PILOTS

Soontir Fel (35)
TIE Interceptor (27), Royal Guard TIE (0), Push the Limit (3), Autothrusters (2), Stealth Device (3)

Commander Kenkirk (64)
VT-49 Decimator (44), Lone Wolf (2), Seismic Charges (2), Emperor Palpatine (8), Ysanne Isard (4), Extra Munitions (2), Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)

Kenkirk with Isard and Palp becomes absurdly tanky late game, if Soontir gets popped, or if opponents ignore soontir and go for FatKirk. Seismics are for either swarms, or when I get aces to chase the FK and they forget I have them. Surprisingly effective, and doesn't cost an action. Lone wolf also helps out late game, and if I can keep FK and SF separated (that's the plan, at least). FK's PS 6 is low enough that I can block aces with him to prevent their actions, leaving them vulnerable (and palping the anti-pursuit lasers if I have to, if I manage to block Fel or someone else that is stupid slippery) if I'm low enough, and it's high enough that I shoot before Swarms and Toilet Seats.

Soontir is, of course, Soontir. He does what he does. Murder. In space. He's a Murdernaught.

Basic strat is to try and circle around with soontir while Kirk turtles on my board edge. I set up as many rocks on my edge as I can, so that I clear them, but make my opponent come to me to fight the Deci. This hopefully adds longevity to Palp, thus adding longevity to Soontir.

Problem lists I've found, so far: Anything with DeciVader. I had to run Fel around constantly against a RAC w/ Vader and EU. As it was, I got lucky that I poured so much firepower into RAC w/ my Kirk that his Deci melted fast (aided by Vader, who slipped one crit onto Fel).

Decimator really wants Engine Upgrade. Slapping EU on that thing makes it one of the fastest ships in the game. You should consider pulling EM and Lasers for it, at least for a trial basis. You may be surprised how much work it does.

EU on a deci is great, I agree. I've noticed that with this build, I tend to be taking a focus as an action nearly every turn. Once I start adding green dice to the equation, I've found it's nice to have one, so that I can save Palp for Soontir protection, or an extra crit damage. On RAC, however, I agree 100%, with his mini-focus ability, EU really helps keep inside of that R1-2 zone. So far I'm 5/6 with this build, but I'll give it a shot this week to see how it fares.

Hmmmm. I could always drop Lone Wolf too... and add PTL? Being able to boost or take a TL in response to Isard's evade action, after everything else has moved and taken actions is pretty **** tempting...

So it would be Commander Kenkirk: PTL (3) Palp (8) Isard (4) EU (4) Seismic (2) = (65)

edit - an arc dodging decimator. I love it.

Add the EU. Do NOT add PtL. I used to run a PtL Kenkirk with Isard. Ran it for an entire league once; it's not worth it. As much fun as it is to boost at the start of the combat phase, it is absolutely not worth limiting your dial to only 4 maneuvers.
