I'm relatively new to Dark Heresy and want get more background on the world and such specifically about psykers. The books are not very clear on anything they go through for sanctioning and all the branding effects sound like it was horrible. I'm trying to figure out how much civility and imperial knowledge would have been instilled and taught to a Feral child before her release back into "public" so to speak? Any good fiction on anything like that for more understanding of imperial ways?
Need History & Background Information
Nope, not really, though the skills you start off with as a psyker should suggest some amount of training.
And yes, the sanctioning and branding is intended to be horrible, it's to ensure that the psyker is pure of taint and not already corrupted by the xenos or the daemon.
The Branding in itself didn't mess up any psyker. It's all the tests, probing, training, and more testing that drive most Psykers to being quite mad/eccentric/loony.
And it depends on what they need the Feral to do. If it's a miner, then the basic litianies to keep the tools working while he/she uses it. If the Feral is to be a priest, then there's gonna be more to it.
GM had her start out without being in the inquisition and was pulled in do to circumstances until the group could return to the inquisitor. She was initially on her way to another feral world the imperium was trying to resettle and civilize. She was to be a "shaman" advisor to the planetary governors dealings with the feral tribes and help smooth over the transitions. Any ideas what all she would have needed in terms of Dark Heresy? because right now I can't imagine more than basic understanding what her job was "make the tribes listen to your master" so she's quite rabid and feral towards others that are not in charge >.>
Keep in mind that ranks 1-3 are essentially basic training for a freshly-sanctioned Psyker, so the basic information about the Imperium, Imperial Creed, etc, available in these ranks may represent knowledge imparted by the Scholastica Psykana to provide sacntionites of any origin a basis for operations in the wider Imperium, just as they are taught normally forbidden or obscure theories and truths about the nature of their own powers.
Edit: I would select Trade (Soothsayer) as my trade (so she can present her powers with suitable flair to impress her charges), Common Lore (Imperial Cult) for a basic knowledge of approved and standard forms of worship, and Scholastic Lore (Occult) and Forbidden Lore (Warp) for a mastery and understanding of a wide range of rituals and their potentially heretical implications.
